My family and I have been patients of Dr. Seiler for decades. I have trusted him with not only my own eye care, but also that of my family and children. We have found the care and services received from the doctor and his staff exceptional, and his fees and prices are in line with others of this high caliber. Personally. I have worn contact lenses ever since I was a teen. Over the years my eyes have changed, and despite having astigmatism, Dr Seiler has been able to fit me with multifocal contact lenses (best thing I've ever done). The people in this office, including Dr. Seiler, should not be in business that requires being in service to others. I made an appointment last week after realizing I was nearly out of contact lenses. When I arrived, I was given paperwork to fill out, including a form indicating an optional $49 "Optos" exam, so I opted out of it, not wanting to pay an extra elective fee. Within moments of the paperwork being delivered to the back, a woman came out and demanded to know why I'd declined the exam. I told her why, she asked if I wanted "dilation," without explaining this was the alternative and what these procedures were for and why they were necessary. I said no, I didn't. Her next statement was an annoyed, "Then we can't see you." I was surprised and tried to ascertain why, but she kept interrupting me, wouldn't explain and then yelled, "You've been here before!" Like I remember what happens at an appointment I go to once every year or two lol. I was stunned. I again tried to understand why she'd brought up dilation, then said I would do it if one or the other - dilation or Optos - was required. But was that enough? Oh, no, it wasn't. Then Dr. Seiler came out and said I was the second person in three years who had requested dilation "because everyone else understands you need Optos." Okaaaay. He said I wouldn't be able to see/focus for 6-8 hours with dilation, which I can't do because I need to work today. I made the point that if they need one or the other in order to see a patient, then they need to be up front, when someone makes an appointment, that there is a mandatory - not optional - $49 fee. Or I tried to make that point but Dr. Seiler kept cutting me off and wouldn't let me speak, finally stating that my options were, "One, get the optos. Two, do dilation. Three, leave, because I'm done talking about this." I said I needed to think about it, and he replied, "In that case, it'd be better if you leave and don't come back." You can bet I won't be coming back, and you can bet I'll be writing a review! FYI, for anyone else looking for an eye exam: HC Deuchler across the street offers a $25 optional eye health exam (similar to Optos) that is actually optional. Dr Seiler is an amazing doc. My husband has a detatched retina, and was quite anxious about it. The doc took extra time with him to explain and answer all his questions. My husband was extremely grateful for his time and patience. I also was grateful, my husband is not an easy patient. read more

I typically purchase my contacts through Dr. Seiler. Then I decided to purchase a nice pair of glasses for several hundred dollars. When they broke just the following year, I brought them in to be repaired. The staff told me there was nothing they could do because the warranty expired. Again, this was just months after I purchased them. It's very disappointing that a business can't stand behind the product they sell to paying customers. The only reason I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 star is that I have had a decent experience with my contact lens purchases. read more

Dr. Seiler and his staff are at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to courtesy, timeliness, and pricing. I come from a family of physicians whom practice in Summit and the word is out about him- STAY AWAY. The glasses I have purchased from him were over $800 after insurance, the wrong prescription included so rendered useless, and despite that exorbitant price, he continued to try and sell, sell, sell. "You need this vision test" so forth and so on. The staff is rude and beyond incompetent. I went to another eye doctor and SHOCKER my prescription was way off! Not by .25 but by .75 in each eye. My new eye doctor doesn't waste time or try and rip you off but the icing on the cake- I can finally see! If your only option is Dr. Seiler, I suggest doing a vision exam in your basement instead. And using Warby Parker for your glasses for a total of $200 for the thin lenses. In addition, as one other reviewer mentioned he refuses to give out your prescriptions which is mandated by law- whether or not you want the Rx, by law it must be given to the patient. Dr. Seiler is talented at playing guitar, but as far as making quality eyeglasses at a reasonable cost, forget it! I purchased prescription sunsglasses from them f8r $690. I had trouble seeing out if the right eye. They had to redo the glasses three times due to mistakes on their end, then they refused to warranty the work. They wanted to charge me double the cost just for the lenses only, compared to what i was able to get from another nearby shop. Do not use these people. Their service is horrible and their prices are as inflated as their egos. read more

Dr. Seemed ok when I had my appointment- not sure about the staff though. They overcharged me a ridiculous amount (I paid my standard copay for a contact lens fit and followup) and then they tried to charge me on TOP of my copay an additional 75$ to show me how to 'put the contacts in my eyes' (which is what the darn copay is for). Insurance company said that it was ridiculous and i shouldn't have been charged so much. They called the doctor to request my money back, it took months, he kept dodging my calls and the insurance company's calls. Finally refunded me but it took a lot of persistance. They were very un-apologetic. My usual 25$ standard eye exam cost 180 at this place (with the same insurance) because of all of their *sneaky* cost additions. read more

I would have given this doctor no star if I could. After spending $300+ out of pocket with insurance (VSP) for the fitting of my contact lens, my contact lens didn't work and they want to charge me for another exam to refit it. I couldn't see closeup with my new contacts so I have to use my old prescription and try to gradually get used to the new ones. but after months of trying, I just could not see up close in the afternoon and evening. My old prescription works so much better. I am sharing my review with all of my WeChat friends so no one in my friend circle will go to this doctor. read more

This "doctor" and his staff attempted to withhold my contact prescription to force me to order contacts through him. This is contrary to the AMA Code of Ethics. (See below) He and the other two staff members attempted to up-charge me for everything and even changed the price of a pair of frames in the "sale" bin AFTER I chose them for my glasses. They also went on and on and every opportunity to "educate" me about the evil insurance companies and how little $ they make. They should not be trusted. In addition, he was late to my appointment (he was not even in the office) and sauntered in without an apology. AMA's Code of Ethics: E-8.06 Prescribing and Dispensing Drugs and Devices: "In all instances, physicians should respect the patient's freedom of choice in selecting who will fill their prescriptions as they are in the choice of a physician and, therefore, have the right to have a prescription filled wherever they wish." "Patients have an ethically and legally recognized right to prompt access to the information contained in their individual medical records. Since a prescription is part of the patient's medical record, the patient is entitled to a copy of the physician's prescription for drugs or devices, including eyeglasses and contact lenses." Not really sure where these bad reviews are coming from, looks a bit like trolling to me. I found dr Seiler pleasant and funny, he provided me with an exception experience, his staff was kind and helpful, And I in no way felt pressured into and up sell. Really do not understand the negative reviews. Been going to him for years and because I am a writer, really need precise attention. The guy is really great at nailing my prescriptions. As to cost, I've not found him different than other services and I've never felt as if he is pushing anything. He is chatty and can be charming during eye exams (although it sometimes borders on TMI). But the minute I asked him about online options for prescription diving goggles, he gave me a long lecture about other patients who called him from LensCrafters looking for his opinion on their glasses (and I'm still not sure exactly what he was trying to tell me--that they were cheap? stupid? And so was I for even considering getting goggles online?). To my surprise, he took my question as a personal affront. That is not the way to run a business, especially when there are so many other options (online and not). In the future, my family will get our eyes examined, and our glasses, elsewhere. read more

I brought my daughter to see Dr Seiler for the first time for an annual eye exam and contact fitting. My daughter had been complaining of having a slight difficulty seeing clearly from a distance. My daughter, who was unaware, told Dr. Seiler that her current contacts did not factor in an astigmatism which was incorrect. Despite this misinformation, Dr. Seiler should have been able to check her current contacts which she was wearing to determine they were contacts with an astigmatism. After the eye exam, Dr Seiler gave my daughter the exact same prescription as her last exam. He stated her current contacts did not factor in an astigmatism which he discovered during the exam and his new prescription did include the astigmatism. Then I was billed for a contact fitting that was 3x more then what I have ever paid for a contact fitting for my daughter who has been wearing contact for over 5 years. The office staff explained that she was fitted for an astigmatism which is considered a "premium" fitting. An astigmatism is a pretty common eye issue and the optometrists who have seen my daughter have never stated it was considered a "premium" eye exam. Once I was home, I sent an email to the office. I included a picture of my daughter's current contact packaging to reflect the fact that they were the exact same prescription, and they had an astigmatism. Therefore, I was questioned the accuracy of the prescription by Dr Seiler. Also, my insurance provided me with the copay amount which was significantly less then what I was charged. I stated I would call the credit card company to stop payment on the transaction. I did receive a phone call from Dr. Seiler that evening. Instead of trying to handle the issue professionally he was very defensive. He went on and on about how long he has been an optometrist and the list of people that go to see him. He said my daughter was wrong in telling him about not having an astigmatism. I stated she was not aware of her contacts having an astigmatism and gave him incorrect information. Yet, he should have been to determine the actual prescription of her current contacts, which she was wearing, during the exam. He continued by saying "patients who are younger then her know their prescription". It was completely unprofessional of him to make that type of statement, comparing my daughter to another patience and pretty much ridiculing her. He finished the phone call by stating he was going to "call the police on me" if I stopped payment on the transaction. I was hoping to have found a new optometrist for my daughter. Instead, this is the worst experience I have had with any Dr. Mistakes happen and there are generally opportunities to remedy to issue but instead, Dr Seiler chose to attack me by making fun of my daughter and threating to call the authorities. He is not a person you want as an optometrist for yourself or your family. read more

My wife and I have been to Dr. Seiler for 2-3 years now but on my last appointment I felt like I was there to purchase a used car. The focus was not on what I wanted but on what they wanted to 'sell me'. In fact, Dr. Seiler used pressure tactics to get me to accept the eye check-up. Without discussing his personality, I found his lack of professionalism in several areas concerning. First, when I declined his offer to use his "special machine" instead of a standard dilation, he refused to dilate my eyes and fit me for contacts in a single appointment -- which I've had done at every appointment for the past 20 years. He made me listen to a 10 minute lecture on why the insurance companies don't care about my eyes. (I later went online to read a review of the test he proposes, and there's no scientific support that it is a superior test, although it would have cost me an extra $50.) Second, he promised to mail me a copy of my prescriptions, but didn't follow through. When I returned to get copies, he claimed to have misplaced my file, and when he found it later, only wrote me a prescription for glasses. When I insisted on a written prescription for lenses, I first had to listen to a long diatribe about why they were the best place to purchase the lenses. (I want a copy for travel purposes). Most importantly I ultimately had my vision checked elsewhere, and his prescription was off. Run, don't walk to another practitioner. read more

This was the worst experience I have had with a doctor - EVER. I was here with my children (who have had several eye checkups before). When making the appointment, and when checking benefits, I was asking thrice if I wanted to pay additional to avoid dilation and use their 'special' machine. I cleared said No as my kids have never had issues with dilation. Then the 'dr' shows up. And he does not STOP telling me how I'm about to torture my kids. How people go blind without the necessary tests. When it came time for the dilation, he said, Watch her cry. She didn't. Then he looked my younger daughter and said Wait until its her turn. I told him to stop scaring the kids. He didn't. I really should have walked out, but since we were almost done, I figured lets just get over with it. Needless to say, I took the prescription and walked. They lost my business of getting lenses and frames. I am appalled by their techniques. My family and I have been going to Dr. Seiler for the past two years. We chose him because we have been Summit residents for more than 25 years and also he participated in our insurance plan. Last week, I contacted him to ask a simple question regarding my son's prescription. I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW ABUSIVE HIS LANGUAGE WAS. HE REALLY DID THREATEN ME FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER. My family and I will never go to him even if he was the last doctor on this earth. He is extremely incompetent. His front office staff is even worse. I made an appointment with Dr. Seiler, As I am on medicare, specifically AARP Medicare complete through United Health Care, I asked if they accepted this plan when making said appointment. I was told that they did. I arrived one half hour prior to the scheduled time, presented my card and was told by some staff member that they DO NOT take this form of AARP coverage. No explanation, no apology. In my opinion this means that Dr. Seiler's staff is ill trained and incompetent at best. As no apology was made I would also say that they are rude. I've been going to Dr. Seiler for many years. He's thoughtful and thorough. Really appreciate the technology he uses which allows him to closely view changes in my eyes. He takes his time with you and answers every question. He suggested I move to daily contact lenses last year and it was the best thing I could've done. I thought Dr Seiler was great-professional thorough and kind. He was very accommodating. I liked the special machine they used instead of dilation. They told me several times before I came in that it cost extra, so I was prepared and to me it was worth it not to be dilated-I get migraines and I was scared dilation would trigger one. I loved his staff, they were very thorough and they had a nice selection of frames. Definitely a good experience, and btw the doctor was super nice about my son attending the appointment with me-a plus for busy, milti-tasking moms!! My family has been going to Dr. Seiler for almost 20 years. He has consistently provided us with excellent eye care for contacts, glasses, and medical diagnoses. He is by far the best health-care provider I have ever had. He listens to your concerns and he has the expertise to problem solve even the most complex eye prescription. He is able to take cost into consideration and advise you on your full range of options. After years of providing us with excellent prescriptions for contacts and glasses, Dr. Seiler showed his true colors when I was faced with a serious eye issue last year. He is well-connected to specialists and makes excellent referrals. Not only that, he spent hours on the phone helping me sort through my options when I had decision to make. It has been such a comfort to have his expert advice only a phone call away. After my surgeries, he spent a lot of extra time with me sorting out what my new prescriptions should be. I had worn hard contacts for a long time and Dr. Seiler worked very hard to find a good contact solution for me. He has an outstanding knowledge about contact lens and strives to get you the best and most practical solution. He is very current on the latest in contact lenses and eye care. He's very patient, answers all questions and cares about his patients. He has also treated me for several eye related problems (infections, sore and tired eyes). Got two periodic check-ups and ended up with prescriptions that weren't great. Was told my eyes changed a lot (!) Got a lot of talk about the sins of insurance companies, competition etc (yes, bordering on TMI). Had to contest several charges and to deal with the high turnover of staff in the office. Decided to change when I had to see an ophthalmologist for an eye injury who advised me that my prescriptions from this place were significantly "off". See 20/20 now with my new lenses and glasses. My husband came in for an eye exam and contact lense fitting and forgot his insurance card. I called right after the exam with the information and they promised to follow up with Aetna. They never did and were too busy to give my husband his glasses prescription at the time of the exam, promising to email it. Despite repeated calls and emails we couldn't get a response to either issue and submitted the claim ourselves. I had Aetna call them and they said they were too busy to talk and dodged their calls. Eventually I went in to the office to get the prescription- this was more than 3 weeks after the exam. They finally gave me that and I asked if we could discuss our insurance claim. Dr. Seiler became irate, ranted at me and 2 waiting patients left the office. He blamed that on me, but it was because of his treatment of me. We are still trying to get back what he owes us for the exam, which was covered by our insurance. He said it is his new policy not to honor insurance if the card isn't presented at the time of the exam, but this is not allowed by Aetna. So beware- they were very quick to charge our credit card and have been dodging all our efforts to get our money back since then. We also got the letter terminating our doctor/patient relationship but there is no way we would ever set foot in that office again anyway. read more

i am only giving one star just to leave the review. this optometrist deserves negative stars. for starters dr. seiler is a rip off. from the dilation , to the optos fee,all the way down to the exam. he over charges and is very dishonest. he is selling trial contact lenses that are clearly marked not for resale. he will pressure you into believing that you must pay his extra fees or he will threaten to call summit police. like what the heck kind of business is he running????? his product selection is very minimal and over priced. during the exams he gives way to much info on his personal life. i come for an eye exam not to hear about his ex girlfriends. his exam fees are beyond over priced. be sure to check with your insurance about the fees he is submitting for. this man has a hand full of lawsuits pending against him due to his unethical business practices. and don't dare book an appointment right after his lunch hour.... you will find yourself waiting for him to casually stroll in as if your time isn't just as valuable. please save yourself the aggravation and head down to h.c.deuchler .... or even walmart has better service than this guy. do not support this lowlife!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

he is the worst eye doctor i've ever been to. he is more interested in his guitars and talking about his other patients than he is with your exam. he claims his exam is an hour long because it is very thorough, but the reason why it's so long is because he talks nonstop about eyemed and how he hates the insurance company and because he gossips about people that he feels gives him problems when in reality, he's the problem and he causes the problem, not the people that go to see him. god forbid you try to put your two sense in about a subject you two are talking about, he will interrupt you and start talking about only what he believes on the matter. not to mention, he is very pricey and he always pushes for the most expensive glasses when you're looking for a frame. when i was there he told my son that if he did not take a picture of the back of his eye with the optomap (that is supposedly over $36,000) that he was going to die if he had missed a tumor something even worse because i wanted to do the dilation drops instead. he was only saying this because he wanted to get the stupid $50.00 out of me for my son's visit. no one's stupid, although he thinks everyone is. if he tries to do that to you, just remember that the dilation drops that any other eye doctor would put in your eyes to check the back of your eyes is just as good as this stupid machine that he makes you pay $50.00. he claims it is part of his "annual eye exam" and "highly recommended" yet he charges people for it. if it's part of your exam, it should be included in your exam fee doc, sorry. i was baffled and just did the optomap so that he could stop ranting and raving to my son and about how he will die in the future because he didn't want to do this optomap thing. he's a joke. his staff, on the other hand, is very polite and really know their stuff. i don't know if the people that posted a review in the past went to the right place because i don't know how they could ever say a nice thing about this guy. not to mention, he submitted to two different insurance companies for a medical exam and eye exam for two separate days when i only went there once. he is very unprofessional and i'd never go back to him. please warn everyone else in summit and go to deuchler or someone else in your surrounding area that take your insurance because nothing good will come out of seeing this doctor. i wonder if he sleeps at night doing the stuff he does to his patients. read more
