I visited Don Tello's with a few of my girlfriends and had a pretty basic 3-star experience. It was my first time there under the recommendation of my bestie but the Yelp reviews made me a bit hesitant. But I went with the vibes! Located in Lithonia, Don Tello's is located in a busy retail area and I loved that parking wasn't an issue at all. There were 2 arcade games at the front which I'm sure come in handy on busy days when children may become restless if their parents are waiting for a table. As we walked up to the hostess stand, I noticed the printed signage that so many mentioned in their reviews regarding no refunds, remakes, etc. Kinda makes you cautious! But we were quickly seated by friendly hostesses and we weren't turning back. The restaurant was huge and filled with plenty of space for hungry guests. I read reviews regarding their Cinco de Mayo celebration being on swole, and I can definitely imagine that! There were only a few people in our seating area during our visit, but I definitely appreciated that. Our waitress was sweet but quite forgetful. On a number of occasions we found ourselves asking for items two or three times. We'd ask a question and she'd respond in a calm "duh" kinda way as if we knew what was happening in the kitchen, lol. I'm a guacamole purist so when I ordered the Texas guacamole dip, I asked for it to be prepared tableside as that was listed as an option on the menu and I wanted a hand in deciding how much/little of each ingredient and enjoy the prep. When I asked about this, our waitress said, "No. No that's not possible." I asked why not and she said, "The kitchen, they prepare it in the kitchen. Ever since.. yeah, no." LOL not much of an explanation, we were all so puzzled. But I was set on the idea and knew I didn't want the regular guacamole dip because in pictures it looked like avocado puree. Moving along. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming. I really appreciated that there were a number of a la carte options (as I never eat my rice and beans) and they were all priced under $7! Such a great deal. I ended up going with a shredded chicken chimichanga along with the guacamole dip and my girlfriends opted for tacos, a beef quesadilla, a burrito and an order of nachos. I'll say this - the portions were insane. My friends' quesadilla was filled up with meat and covered the entire plate (but wasn't cut up) and another girlfriends' nachos could have fed two people. My guacamole was a nice portion as well and I could tell that it was fresh. It was good, not the best I've had, but tasty. I could have used another avocado in the mix and just a litttttttle less lime. Overall, an okay experience but I'm not sure if I'll be rushing back anytime soon. read more

My husband and I had the worst experience ever. I have been coming here off and on now for a while, especially with me living up the street. The night manager, Glennieca made to where I will never come back! Last night (Friday, 04/17/26) we were eating at bar. My husband ask the bartender for sour cream to go w/ quesadillas. We get bill that says open food $1.99. After asking what this was bartender says it's f/ sour cream. One we never was told it is was extra, 2nd we got maybe 2 tablespoon worth of sour cream* Asked for Mang. she comes and simple had no regard for our frustration. She had an attitude from the start very rude. Says "sorry that's the price". repeatedly. Our argument was we wasn't giving the CHOICE of saying yes or no. Nor did the staff inform us. This is why we are coming to the manager. As she strutted her shoulders. Her words were I know she didn't but u still have to pay. We said well what if we don't. She says we will call the police. It's not about the $ it's the principal. Then to top it off the bartender says if it doesn't say it on menu the we should know sour cream is extra. This is a mixed review and so I am going to just stick to a 3. Upon entering, a man was washing the exterior windows. He acknowledged us and then walked inside. He spoke and my friend tried to have small talk. He was having none of it. We were seated and she went to the restroom and then I did. While on the way to the bathroom, I noticed the "No Refunds" sign. Then in the bathroom, there was a pandemic sign, and then one more sign of which I can't remember what it said. I don't like the "No Refunds, Remakes" sign because if they mess up, they should correct it. We ordered. Food arrived and nothing really had flavor. The rice and beans were tasty, but all meat just tasted like the grill but no seasoning. The one salsa tasted a little like soap. I was done. When we arrived they sat us at a booth. I asked if we could get a table because we had a 9 month pregnant woman with us. Our server say he could move the seats back from the table which now meant the non pregnant people had to slide closer to the table to eat. I felt the food was over priced. Our server never came back to asked if we needed refills. When we got our bill we realized why the service was crappy. A $12 gratuity was added on for a party of 3. My parents came in town to visit, so on their last day, we went to Don Tello's. Don Tello's is right outside of Stonecrest Mall in Lithonia off of I-20. The Parking: They have their own parking lot. Free parking. The Service: The service was pretty decent. It took a while for our orders to be taken and for the check to come out, but the staff was friendly. The Atmosphere: They offer booths and tables, with televisions to watch a game, etc. The Food: I ordered a Grilled Steak Quesadilla ($7.99). It was pretty good. I had the steak cooked medium and it was enjoyable. My mother ordered tacos and shrimp dip, while my father ordered an enchilada. Both of them said their food was good. Don Tello's also has very good chips & salsa. To drink, I ordered a Jamaica, which was also pretty good. Overall, I've been in Atlanta since 2010 and this was my first time visiting. Parking is easy I was able to park right in front of the entrance. Upon entering it was a bit busy but we were still able to be seated right away. They had pleasant music playing... I have been here a few times and I order the same thing every time which is the shrimp fajitas nachos. This time I just ordered the shrimp fajitas and I was quite disappointed in the amount of shrimp I received. The food did come out sizzling my veggies was a little charred but I still ate it. Horrible customer service. The bad ratings are true. 1st I received wrong order. Then they brought with Guamoli on it.. after I specially said not to put it on my Nachos. 2min later they brought out my plate.. it was cold.. it wasn't a new plate.. after I was eating it.. there was the Guamoli hidden underneath . Yuck. Then my friend couldn't squeeze the hot sauce our of the bottle the tip was dried with sauce. The first thing you might notice here is that it is not your run of the mill Mexican menu. There are a variety of steak and chicken dishes that are not just average tacos and burritos found just about everywhere. I had a dish called Vallarta's which was shrimp, scallops and fish, cooked with peppers and onions. The spices were nice but is was hard to determine one meat from another as it all tasted the same. It was served in a pineapple shell, this was cool to look at but the meat in the pineapple was cold which cooled the other food. it was served with a little bit of rice but no beans at all which was a bit of a disappointment. We had chunky guacamole, this was very good. The server never asked if we wanted more chips and half of the bowl was wasted due to not having chips. This morning, I decided to go to my favorite Mexican restaurant (Don Tello's) for lunch. I sit in the same area of the restaurant every time I go there. I have the same waitress every time. Today, I questioned my bill after my meal. I asked her did the price change because I always order the same thing. Well she told me that I needed to read the menu . I said I get the same thing all the time. She went and got a menu and said do you see this? READ with a major attitude. I said okay. No problem. I signed the check and was getting ready to walk out. The waitress said oh you gonna do me like this? I said like what? She said I don't own this business. I work here for tips. You need to pay your bill. I tip her $3 every time I visit. My bill is only $12 and change. Today, she had a nasty attitude. So, I did not tip her. She had the audacity to say the next time do not sit in my area. Sit somewhere else. I told her I didn't seat myself. She gave me a look like she wanted to curse me or jump me. I said let me speak to the manager. My manager was very nice and apologize to me. He said he know I comes in regularly. He said he will talk to her. This is the only time I had a bad experience there. Hopefully the waitress will get it together and not ruin the business. Basic and bland are the first words that come to mind when I think about Don Tello's. I've been twice, but it wasn't my decision to come either time. My last particular visit left a whole lot to be desired. To start off on a pleasant note, the hidden treasure margarita was delicious. They don't list the drink prices on the menu which is odd and they only have 2 sizes. The cheese dip with jalapeños was fine, but the complimentary salsas were bland. I ordered the ground beef tacos with a side of rice for my entree. I mean, how could anyone mess up something as simple as ground beef tacos? Somehow they managed. The ground beef was very under seasoned. The rice was ok. The service was terrible. The waitress seemed nice, but she wasn't very attentive. The food was good. The server was slow and incompetent, bringing the wrong orders. The pricing was inconsistent. I got a margarita from the bar and paid $19.20. When I sat down at a table and got a margarita from the waitress, the price was $15.00. I ordered a chicken chimichanga and chicken enchilada and was charged an extra .99/each for the chicken. I came here to catch up with a good friend & thought we were going have a great experience based on the ambiance but I was truly wrong. Once we were seated, we waited almost 30 mins before our server acknowledged us. Several people came after us & already their drinks & food order placed with the kitchen. I had to go to the hostess to figure out who our server was. I had to chase him (Nate) down just to let him know we were waiting to be served. Once he got to our table, there was no apology for the wait or anything. We had to ask for water & silverware. Our drinks took forever because he messed them up the first time & didn't write down anything regarding our order. My food came before my drinks. I was so fed up with his lack luster service that I moved to the bar. Then when I got to the bar, I realized that Nate still gave me the wrong margarita because it tasted completely different when I ordered it again from the bar. We have been to this location that is near the Stonecrest mall before. It has a large parking lot and usually has plenty of available spots. We entered the restaurant and were seated quickly. We chose to sit near the bar at one of the high top tables. We were lucky enough to get Lilly as our server. She was very attentive and friendly. It seemed she was covering all the tables near the bar and did it with a smile and great attitude. I ordered the Super chimichanga meal and wifey ordered the chicken fajita nachos. My meal was OK, but the chimichanga tasted a little greasy. I think it was the grilled veggies that were causing the extra grease. Wifey thoroughly enjoyed her nachos and had a nice amount to box up. Was in the Lithonia area near Stonecrest Mall helping my buddy move and we needed a lunch break. Wanted Mexican and didn't want to drive far, plus wanted to try something new (despite the reviews here). I was expecting a hole in the wall but this place looked like a Mexican Chili's. And that's the only comparison. I love Chili's so I feel badly even lumping this place with them. Apparently this must be a chain but it's the first I've heard of them. We were sat quickly and the waiters were wearing masks. Place looked fairly clean. Atmosphere was eh. Chips and two types of salsa were brought to the table. I'd give them a 3 there. They had 32oz draft beers so I ordered a huge Corona (yeah, I got Corona), which was the highlight of my visit. For my lunch I ordered the chicken taco combo, which comes with rice and beans. I must have failed to realize they would be soft shell so not sure if they have the option for hard shell. Either way, they were bland and just not great. I had to dump my salsa on them to even enjoy it. The rice and beans were better than the tacos, which isn't saying much. Their cheese dip was certainly salty, although I liked it came in a hard shell. Overall, besides the decent service and big beer, the food was subpar for Mexican. I can venture to say I probably won't be back to a Don Tello's on my own accord in the future. read more

GiGi the floor manager tonight was EXTREMELY RUDE and made us move to another table in the middle of our dinner. It seemed like it was because they had a large party that was there and they "needed the room". When we questioned the move she was dismissive and was even more rude! A paying customer should NEVER be told they needed to move in the middle of their dinner for any reason and on top of that when we complained she refused to give us her full nam so that we could talk to the manage! I don't recommend this restaurant at all, the experience was sub par both times we have been there and ton was worse. Don't go there if GiGi is working! read more

This place is ALWAYS packed so we decided to try it for Cinco De Mayo. Immediately upon entry, you see the bar area, to the right of the entryway is the seating area for the restaurant. We ordered chips with jalapeño queso, which was delicious. We also tried the fajitas, a taco and a steak quesadilla. We ordered the fajitas without shrimp but It was sent out with shrimp. The quesadilla was uncut and loaded with cheese in the bottom of the tortilla. The beef in the taco had a weird taste to so I didn't eat it. Overall the food was ok. The people are nice but the food is blahhhh $52 bucks and it was not at all worth it. This is the jalopy of Mexican food quite literally. I ordered two salmon salads. Mine was missing the seeds that were supposed to come with it. The salmon was good, but the rest was literally fruit cocktail and spring mixed greens. The dressing was pico and olive oil. The chicken soup did not taste good at all. The kids meal was not appetizing. They charged for beans AND rice, I thought she said it came with the meal but it was one or the other. The hostess was super sweet but when I asked who it the bean soup and vegetarian options she didn't seem knowledgeable. I also was overcharged for the kids meal as it was the Wednesday special, but they quickly corrected the issue and provided something to else. The food was quick. My first time trying this restaurant and I was very impressed! The building is bright blue so you can't miss it. The inside was inviting. There are lots of tvs so you can watch the games. Our bartender was very sweet and personable. She had a lot of regulars coming in to see her so that says a lot about her service. The food came out fast. I walked him very hungry. Been out most of the day without eating. So when I saw that it was Tex Mex, I was Excited. I sat down and ordered a strawberry margarita on the rocks to start my meal. Took a quick glance at the menu and ordered a El Pollo Loco (I wanted something simple that I could eat and it wouldn't be messed up; how can you mess up a chicken breast)? Anyway, when my drink arrived it was in a plastic glass. Hardly any ice, and definitely no alcohol! Too tired to send it back. Heavy sigh. I Just wanted my food. Next came the chips and salsa.
