Best food I ever had i highly recommend and everyone is so friendly and kind you can taste the love in every bite

I like this Clovis location, the fifth and newest in the Fresno area for this family-owned restaurant. Housed in a former MOD Pizza, it features a spacious dining room with plenty of tables and chairs, along with a sizable patio strung with café lights that creates a welcoming atmosphere. Although Don Pepe is often celebrated as a no-frills, hole-in-the-wall taqueria serving authentic Mexican food, I actually prefer this location because of its roomy layout. It is also noticeably less crowded than the Blackstone Avenue location near Gettysburg Avenue or the Woodrow Avenue restaurant across from Fresno State, making for a more relaxed dining experience. While Don Pepe is best known for its shrimp and fish tacos, combination plates, and other seafood specialties, I almost always find myself ordering something filled with carne asada or pollo asado. As soon as you walk in, the aroma of the meats grilling in the kitchen fills the restaurant and immediately whets your appetite. The carne asada is made with thinly sliced, good-quality beef that is smoky, deeply savory, tender, and juicy, with beautifully charred edges that add even more flavor. The pollo asado is equally impressive. It is juicy, tender, moist, and caramelized from the grill, with just the right amount of char to give it a delicious smoky finish. One detail I especially appreciate is that the tacos and burritos are topped with whole pinto beans, a style commonly found in Northern Mexico. The beans are creamy, rich, and deeply savory, tasting as though they have been slowly simmered with bacon and onions, much like frijoles charros. While this style is less common in much of California, I enjoy seeing it here because it adds another layer of flavor and authenticity. The tacos themselves are enormous, generously filled with meat and beans. With prices starting at around $3 each, they offer outstanding value. The housemade salsa bar is another highlight, with fresh, vibrant salsas ranging from smoky and earthy to intensely spicy, offering something for every palate. Service has always been friendly, fast, and efficient. I am a fan of Don Pepe's consistently delicious food, and this Clovis location strikes an excellent balance of flavor, quality, generous portions, speedy service, and a spacious, comfortable dining environment. read more

7/11/26 Getting lunch! Ordered a chicken torts with no sour cream, extra hot salsa & shrimp cocktail. Paid for it on DoorDash and went to pick it up. Arrived! Large restaurant. Clean & safe. Greeted by nice worker. Let worker know and received with good day wishes! Great! Lunchtime! Order split. Chicken Torta 1/2 is Delicious!! Tasty & Great! Even better with their hot salsa! Ordered a super Buritto and some tacos with my brother. Tacos came loaded with meat. You add in your cilantro and onions/sauce at the sauce bar. Very filling and full. The Buritto was just okay. I wasn't a huge fan of what was inside but it was still really big and filling. Tons of tables to sit at. Staff were nice and helpful. read more

Service was fast. The staff is friendly and welcoming. They have an open kitchen on this location. The ambiance it's very casual. I see a lot of people coming in and out. They order on the phone and they just come eland pick up. We order our usual. We could taste the difference between the other location and this one. My husband mention that the rice on his tacos had more flavor. My daughter said that the beans are cooked different. And they do. They added peppers and onion when they cooked them. So weird she can taste that. She said mom? The beans taste different. But her asada taco was good. Same as the other locations. The tostada I ordered tasted the same to me. It was good. I've had Don Pepe's before but I wanted to give this location a try. I got one taco of Carne Asada and one of Chicken (both with beans). My husband got one Asada and one Al Pastor. As per most locations, they packed the tacos with meat and an extra tortilla to get you nice and full. The asada and al pastor are always our go-tos but I wanted to give their chicken a try. By itself with the beans was O.K. (just wish it was a little charred) but when I added their pico de gallo and green salsa, it was good. A good place to get Mexican food. I love their carne asada tacos. They have a sides bar so you can load up on your favorite hot sauce, salsa, etc. Service is fast even during the busy times. And their lunch is very busy. My one quibble is their carnitas, too much fat and not enough crispy meat. I'm retired so I have the luxury of visiting just before or after the lunch hours. read more

I love this place! They really make great chili verde. My wife and I always split a burrito. I had Al Pastor taco in the past and it was meh. While asking the Yelp community about the best Pastor in town, a fellow Yelper suggested Don Pepe. Thought I'd give it another try. This time I decided no beans. I can say that Al Pastor here was not good. Very dry. I don't think the use pineapple. I can saw the chili verde here is really good. The service here is great. I have been waiting for don Pepe to open up since forever! I did take them a while to open, but the wait was worth it! I grabbed a bacon breakfast burrito and oh boy did it not disappoint! Filled with bacon, eggs, potato's, cheese and beans goodness! It's a great size for only $10! The flavors are amazing paired with their green salsa! Don't forget to try their chile verde and shrimp as that's what they are known for! They are located in the same shopping area of Costco, located next to the Starbucks. They just opened today and I will definitely be a frequent customer! They have open and ample seating. This place used to be a pizza place, so they took over all their furniture. So you'll definitely not have an issue finding seating. Their salsa bar is phenomenal and full of choices! No shortage there. All in all, I love this place already and cannot wait to go every day! Was craving their nachos... No welcome this time. Did not pay attention to their closing time so we felt rushed. Please do not sweep/mop while you still have customers. And please do not have the same person who is cleaning/handling the floor mats bring out our food.... As we asked if carnitas taco was correct, wife pulled a long hair...was immediately addressed and replaced but cubed pork was bland,flavorless. Like pre-chile Verde. My pastor taco barely had any meat so will try something else. I drove to Kings Canyon one in front of Walmart and was sooo glad to have one closer but I might have to go back to Fresno location if this Clovis continues with subpar experience. And I will never apologize for being a "pocho". Watch what you say, I understand Spanish, i just don't feel to speak it. I didnt think I needed to make a review for this low of a rating, I am regular who comes here 3-4 times a month to order the menudo thats only on the weekend, my family comes here a lot and spends over 100$ dollars because we enjoy the food, we always get the super burritos or the tacos, we have tried a lot. Today, we went an ordered the combination plate, 2 menudos, lengua super burrito and shrimp burritos. The food is very tasty but the service on the other hand was terrible. I am someone who likes to use a lot of condiments. The staff had told me i was getting too much sauce and condiments and this wasnt the first time I have done this. Are you kidding me? I spend over 100$ dollars and they are telling me I am getting too much sauce. That was very not right telling a regular that. I dont even know if I want to go back after that. This place is not too far from my house so when we are craving tacos this is where we go. I must say they serve a lot of meat on their tacos so even with 2 tacos you'll be good! I've tried the lengua and asada tacos. The asada ones are okay. The lengua ones are my favorite, they are really good. We live about a mile away so we decided to try this new location and ordered take out. I had a shrimp taco and beans and rice. Shrimp was cooked perfectly. Big taco. Beans and rice was large enough to feed 3 people. Tortilla was very soggy and greasy. Taco needed a crunch factor like cabbage. Lime and cilantro would have been nice. I loooooove don pepes, the one by Fresno state at least... this new don pepes never gets the order right EVER. I ordered here probably 3 times now because I like to not get upset over one order. Three times is the final NO. They just don't know how to read what I order I guess. Considering how many good Mexican restaurants are in the area nothing here stands out. Good or bad. I did like a salsa bar type setup. Little on the pricey side. Don Pepe is a great place for tacos and burritos. The business opens at 10:00 a.m., so I go there a late morning breakfast burrito. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you. The salsa bar has many delicious options. My grandson raved about the cheese quesadilla, but the chicken quesadilla was too much for his younger sister. She loved it, but it was too much food for her. We'll split it next time. A kids menu with smaller portions would be great, but it's easier to have them cut food in smaller portions. Beverages can be purchased in bottles at the counter, where they offer Mexican sodas and beer. Cups can be purchased for the soda dispenser. The service is friendly, and they keep the restaurant clean. You can tell it's a good operation with the many families eating there. There is seating at tables and booths. Parking at the Clovis Costco location could be a challenge, Don Pepe shares a location with Starbucks and a dental office. read more
