Today my daughter and I were running errands and stopped at Toledos in Clovis for lunch. We were seated immediately, there was no waiting. They were pretty busy, only a few empty tables. We chose drinks and enjoyed some warm chips and salsa! We liked the choices on the weekday special menu. I got one chicken taco with a bowl of soup, rice and beans, drink included. My daughter got Sam's special; chicken breast covered in chorizo and cheese with rice and beans and 2 tortillas. Everything was delicious ! Service was top notch, and it was bright and lively during noontime rush. I really liked the soup, albondigas, so good! We will for sure go back and try something else, another day. Toledos never disappoints with an incredible and filling breakfast. We ordered and food was at the table within 10 minutes which as just enough time to eat the delicious homemade chips and salsa. The waitress brought our drinks and food quickly which is always a bonus when you are hungry. The restaurant was full but there wasn't a wait time on Sunday at 11:30 am. Went here around 5:30pm on a weekday and I didn't have trouble finding parking. We got seated right away as there wasn't that many customers. More customers prob started coming around 6:15ish. Lighting was just right and seating was comfortable. Our server was really attentive and made sure we were well taken care of. I ordered chicken fajitas with flour tortillas, rice and subbed the beans for more rice and it also came with guacamole. The food was a big portion enough for 2 people. It came in sizzling and tasted really good. It was seasoned well and very tasty. Although the flour tortillas weren't that great. I probably should've just got corn tortillas. But the rice and guac were good. Next time I come here, I would order the fajitas again but I would try it with corn tortillas. read more

My wife and I have been on a mission to find the best burrito in the Fresno/Clovis area, trying out random Mexican restaurants along the way. Unfortunately, during our search, we stumbled upon what might be the worst Mexican restaurant in the entire Central Valley. To start, they bring out chips and salsa--which is usually a good sign. But not here. The salsa was extremely watery and lacked flavor. I'd rate it a 1 out of 10. I ordered the Don Jesus Burrito, which the online Yelp menu lists at $15.99. But when I got the menu, it was actually $19.99--and that's before the upcharge for carne asada. Nearly $20 for a burrito? Sure, I'll pay that if it's amazing. But this was anything but. The burrito was stuffed mostly with beans, with barely any carne asada to be found. To make matters worse, the tortilla fell apart halfway through and I had to finish it with a knife and fork. Not exactly what you want from a burrito that's supposed to be top-tier. To be blunt, this place is heavily Americanized and clearly caters to a more affluent Clovis crowd who might care more about trendy aesthetics than authentic flavor. If you're looking for real, flavorful, affordable Mexican food--this isn't it. Final verdict: Overpriced, underwhelming, and a total miss for anyone who actually knows good Mexican food. read more

This was my first time back in a very long time. No particular reason why I haven't been back since except that I've just had better, honestly. It's not bad, though. I just have other places I prefer more. This wouldn't be my first choice, but I also wouldn't be opposed to it if it were to be suggested again... if that makes sense. The staff was nice and friendly. The restaurant reminded me kind of like an old saloon? I don't know if that's the right word for it but that's the first that popped into my head. There's some cool pictures and history about the restaurant up front in the waiting area but we didn't have to wait too long to be seated (we were there 2-3pm, Saturday afternoon) for me to be able to dive deeper into that. Our waitress greeted us quickly after we were seated and put our orders in once we were ready. I wasn't sure what to order so I just went with a combination plate to try multiple items at once. I got the 3 combo plate- taco (asada), enchilada (cheese), and chile relleno w/ rice and beans. He got the Carne Asada a la Tampiqueña plate (steak, enchilada, rice, beans, guac, and your choice of corn or flour tortilla). While waiting, they brought us complimentary chips and salsa. Salsa wasn't bad but could be better. The chips were really good though, we both enjoyed the chips a lot. Normally, my first choice would be an enchilada plate but they had quite a few options (suiza, chile verde, mole, etc) and I just didn't want to make the wrong choice... especially with the mole. Everyone makes it differently but the best I've had thus far? I haven't found in a restaurant. It's from my best friend's Mama. Anyway, he enjoyed his plate but didn't finish. I liked my plate as well but it didn't quite satisfy me the way I'd hoped. Everything was okay/good... but nothing made me say "oh, wow, that's really good" except for the chips. I read that the family line did have something to do with Country Fare Cafe (which is one of my faves)... So if they have enchiladas like that here I would love to try it. I'll also have to come back to try their breakfast... but, for now, this review is based off this experience. It'll fall right smack dab in the middle. I'm in the Fresno area on business and had a hankering for Mexican food. Toledo's was close to my hotel, but I also noticed that it had good reviews. I spent $34.30 on a 3-item combo and a quesadilla appetizer. Also guac. I got 2 dinners worth of food for $34.30. My employer will be so happy that I will not be expensing another dinner tomorrow. I'll be eating leftovers. And they will be delicious. It's one thing to get a lot of food. It's a totally different thing to get a lot of delicious food for $34. Everything was perfectly prepared: the enchilada, taco, tamal, and quesadilla con chile relleno. And this place has good guacamole. I can't tell you how many times I've been disappointed in guacamole from an otherwise decent Mexican restaurant. I only go to Fresno once or twice a year, but I have found my new go-to Mexican restaurant. If you live in the Fresno area, you should make this your go-to restaurant at least twice a month. Our Sunday brunch group--usually 8-12 people--tries a new restaurant every week. Today Toledo's reminded us exactly why some places are sliding downhill: they care far more about their own convenience than their customers. We arrived early and asked for a table for 10. Simple. Instead, we ran straight into their rigid "your entire party must be here before we seat you" policy. It wasn't just the rule--it was the attitude behind it. The staff acted as if seating paying customers was some kind of burden, as if doing their job might inconvenience them. There were empty tables everywhere. We were ready to order drinks, spend money, and be out of the way. But the message was loud and clear: their comfort and workload matter more than their guests. It's a perfect example of a restaurant that has forgotten what hospitality means. Inflexible, unwelcoming, and completely uninterested in earning business from a reliable 8-12 person group that brunches every single week. We walked across the street and were seated immediately at a competitor--who understood the basic concept of customer service. If Toledo's wants to know why people stop coming, it's because experiences like this make one thing obvious: they're more invested in protecting themselves from having to work than in taking care of the people who walk through their doors. read more

When we first arrived, it took a few minutes to get seated even though there were tons of tables available. I'm not sure what the delay was. However, once we were seated, the service from that point on was good. I ordered the combination plate, with a shredded beef enchilada, Chile relleno, and a tamale. The enchilada was ok (it was the only item not hot on my plate), Chile relleno was pretty tasty, but the tamale was wonderful. Other family members go the torta and chicken mole. Everyone seemed happy with their meals. We ordered a few of the hibuliscus margaritas, the May special, and they were a great deal. Next time I would get it on the rocks, as my blended margarita wasn't blended enough and had several larger chunks of ice that kept clogging the small straw. Still tasty though. No where does it mention an age limit on the menu. However, when our server brought the bill, she charged us for two one item combos. When I questioned her, she said the age limit was 10. We were quite upset for two reasons. One is that neither the menu or the server mentioned it when the girls ordered specifically from the kids menu and showed her a they ordered, and she also didn't say anything about an age limit at that time. If you are looking for a flavorful authentic Mexican food in Clovis this is not the place to go. We have eaten here several times and I have noticed the decline in flavor and seasoning of food. On this day I had lunch at this location. I tried the albóndigas soup as it is highly rated. The albóndigas soup was bland and had more cabbage, celery and carrots than potatoes the broth itself was very light in tomatoes sauce not hardy at all. I did however appreciate the small side of rice it was well cooked the rice was light and fluffy. We also tried the chicken chimichanga the chicken was chewy and it seemed be pre frozen chicken which was microwaved and added to the chimichanga. The best part of dining at this Toledo's location: Definitely the salsa and the service -- some of the best salsa this side of the Mississippi! Finely diced tomatoes, peppers, onions, garlic and greens (probably cilantro). Plus waiting on a table for eight, our server gave us excellent attention and brought us food and drinks exactly as we ordered. The margaritas, though $11.25 for a 6-or 8-ounce on-the-rocks drinks, were superb. Unfortunately the food was inconsistent. Two of us ordered chicken chimichangas. They arrived topped with guacamole and no sour cream. That was $2 extra for a small ramekin. Extra guacamole in a small dish, $4 more. Shredded white meat also cost more, and that chimi had large chunks of green bell peppers. The other chimi had chunks of light and dark chicken with no peppers. Another of our party ordered shrimp Diablo in a red sauce that came with rice and vegetables. She took two bites and stopped eating. The veggies were hard as rocks, and she said the shrimp was overcooked and the sauce tasted like tomato paste with few spices. She did enjoy the albondigas soup, however. The food is really good and very consistent on the quality. The female manger needs to go, I have never seen her smile and she is always rude. She rolls her eyes at customers if they ask to sit in a specific area. Every time we come eat for breakfast she ha been rude. She brjngs the atmosphere down instantly. This last trip to Toledo's was just as surprising and it was disappointing. I've been living in the area for almost 20 years and have been frequenting Toledo's and other local restaurants often. The quality of the food at toledos has been good and reasonably priced. The prices at toledos have slowly increased over the years as have everywhere else in the city and county. But today was different. I have my favorite plates at Toledos which include the sopes or albondigas dinners. Today I ordered the 3 sopes plate. When I went to pay I was surprised and totally thought there was mistake in the charge. $28 for 3 sopes dinner which did not include the tip. I had just purchased that same meal a few months back and did not feel it was ridiculously overpriced. $28? For a simple dinner and a non steak house restaurant? Im totality in board with price of living increase but to increase the price of your food over the years which is understandable and then- boom, another big spike out of nowhere? Basically a slap in the face to me and maybe others who believe that the new prices are insane. I have to mention one last thing. When I got home and opened up my dinner box and proceeded to just suck it up and enjoy my potential last Toledos meal, I found that the asada meat I was charged extra for was so skimpy that I might as well have just got regular priced ground beef instead. In the end, super over priced meal, only to be mostly dough and very little meat. I am officially priced out of Toledos. Thank god I am blessed to afford to eat occasionally at most places I choose but I refuse to waste my hard earn money on this type of greedy business. The low review is not about the service. Albondigas was amazing, Taquitos were really flautas on the Happy Hour menu and tasted bland. The biggest issue was getting charged $1.00 for salt around the glass rim for a margarita (who does that...)and the drinks didn't have much alcohol. I was very disappointed to say the least. read more
