A friend recommended we come here for lunch. Its a little bit of a drive for us, but we agreed. Boy are we glad we did! The waitress was super friendly and helpful. The shop was tidy and clean. The hubs ordered a burrito and I got the chili relleno with beans and rice. They offer complimentary chips and salsa. I'm a wuss about heat and ut was perfrct for me. Our friend is 3/4 lava monseter asked for a hotter salsa and they were happy to do so. This is where I mentioned that I live life with a service doggo. This place gets 4 paws up! No issues, the floor is clean and there is room for my girl under the tables. The food came out after a short wait. Oh, my! The burrito was huge! And looked so good! My plate came out and was also very delicious looking. We dug in and the table got real quiet. The kind of quiet that settles in when people are busy feeding their pie holes with good food. The hubs really enjoyed his burrito and while tge relleno was good, it wasnt my thing. But the beast and rice were lit! Some of the best I've ever had! My husband, daughter and I joined some friends for dinner for our first time to EL Rodeo. Our friends love it so we were excited to try it. The service was good with our server being very attentive to our group of six. The food, however was such a disappointment. We love Mexican food but the quality here is just not good. The chips and the flour tortilla bowl of my salad were obviously cooked in very old, dirty fry oil which gave them an off taste. My salad had grilled chicken which was extremely dry with no real seasoning or taste. My daughter ordered the appetizer nachos as her meal that she couldn't even eat because of the off taste of the chips. Sadly, we won't be back. read more

Third trip, just wanted soup! It is Raining and chilly. After being greeted with a friendly hello, we were seated and our drink order was taken, immediately. Drinks served right away. This establishment is definitely family friendly. It is homie and inviting. It takes a minute to look at the menu; soups, tacos, enchiladas. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner. So many choices! I love the chili relleno, and the chicken tacos, so I got the 2 item combo with rice and beans and added the bowl of soup I wanted, chicken tortilla soup. Another amazing dinner. Meh. I am being generous here with a 3rd star. I think this place means well, but this restaurant seems to be missing leadership and execution in their dishes. To be fair, my wife and I didn't stray too far off the menu as we were only mildly hungry and wanted to give this place a shot. To start , they offer you a basket of tortilla chips dusted with seasoning and a pretty good red salsa. These chips and salsa were exactly what you can find at Toledo's up the street. I was in the mood for breakfast so I opted for the chorizo and eggs with beans and their homemade corn tortillas. Not great, but edible. The service was spotty as we had to order a side of corn tortillas from 3 different people with no success. By 12:35 PM, I was still waiting for my bowl of menudo while tables seated after me were already eating -- including one with the same order. My meal finally arrived at 12:38 PM, with no apology or update from the server (who was repping a Raiders #17 Adams jersey -- tough game day, maybe ). Food presentation: the menudo looked great -- rich red broth, onions, cilantro, lime, and warm corn tortillas. The tripe was outstandingly tender and clean, nearly melt-in-your-mouth. However, the broth was bland, lacking salt and depth. A bit of salt and Tapatío made a big difference. One concern: the cilantro and onion garnish plate had a small piece of meat mixed in. Hopefully, it came from the hot line while plating, but it did raise a cross-contamination flag -- something the kitchen should watch for. Finished my bowl by 12:58 PM. Came here for lunch. Walked and and waited to be seated. Got seated down quickly and they brought out chips and salsa to snack on. Waitress came and took our order and the food came out quick and fresh. I ordered the 2 enchilada plate and a coworker ordered the taco and enchilada plate. My enchiladas were great. Meat wasn't dry and food was flavorful. Rice was cooked perfectly. Yummm This place looks like a nice place to come eat, chill and watch sports. Came in for dinner, my other half and I both ordered combo plates. My order was correct, his was not. We ended up not telling our server (who was ver kind) and started eating. The ground beef (enchiladas) was very bland, and tasted boiled. It was in the lighter end in color, which tells me it was not browned in a pan. The enchilada red sauce was ok...I can make a better homemade sauce at home. The refried beans tasted ok, tons of cheese on top, which i like. One they got cold, not good. Spanish rice was ok. Nothing tasted fresh to either of us, and left us with an ugly aftertaste. :( I had very high hopes, as I had TWO different recommendations on less than a week, for this place. We will not be back. The ambiance could use improving, as we noticed they've tried. But it still feels dated and dirty, especially the carpet. Sorry guys.....I wanted to really love this place! read more

Ordered Menudo, 2 item shredded beef Enchilada w/tamale with red sauce and 4 mini asada tacos. Place called and lmk that they were out of menudo and can substitute with Posole. Posole was A+ I asked for a lot of hominy and they did not skimp! Tacos were good but I didn't get taco salsa, just chip and salsa salsa (similar to pace). A friend of mine wanted to take me out for a quick bite and this is right around the corner from her. A hidden gem. I guess I don't go to the Miniwawa and Shaw area very often and it's kind of hidden in a corner so you might not notice this. Pleasant atmosphere, even though it was right before Thanksgiving it was already decorated for Christmas and very festive. When you walk in, they have their specials clearly displayed which included albondigas soup, tortilla soup, and some other entrées. I thought that was a nice touch because sometimes it's hard to figure out what exactly the special of the day is. We were greeted immediately, even though the restaurant was fairly busy for 5:30 PM on a weeknight. Greeted and seated. Well done. We were also provided with the requisite red salsa and crispy tortilla chips. I have to say this is one of the best salsas in a restaurant I have had of late. The salsa was rich and tomato flavored but with nice raw pieces of onion to give it a crisp crunch. The tomatoes tasted as though they have been fire roasted, and there was a hint of oregano in their salsa. Just the right bite of heat too. Excellent. Great on the chips and the chips were not over salted so you could salt them more if that was to your liking. The menu is extensive with Combinations, breakfast items, including chorizo and eggs, and chilaquiles. They have fish tacos, à la carte in addition to a number of other items all a cart. Multiple specials, including seafood, specials with shrimp and fish, fajitas, and Ranchera dishes. I ordered the enchiladas de mole with chicken. When I first tasted them well let me go back. Service was very rapid. We got our food quickly. My companion ordered albondigas soup and fish tacos. When I first tasted my enchiladas with the sides of refried beans and rice with lime, another additional and splendid, unique aspect of this restaurant, I didn't quite know what to make of it. It seemed a little bland. But then I remembered that because of some personal medical problems, I need to add a little bit more salt than the average person. So once I salted my food, just a smidge, everything came out with extremely bright flavor and it was very delicious mole sauce. There were two tortillas stuffed with chicken. So much that I was unable to finish the second enchilada. The rice with lime is just divine. My friend reported that her albondigas soup was one of the best she ever had. The broth was quite delicious and the meatballs were well flavored. The staff kept checking with us repeatedly throughout the meal once we were served, then after we'd had a bite or two, and again a little later. They were very, very attentive. Well done. Solid choice for Mexican cuisine. They were busy because they had a huge party but the food came out in a timely manner. I ordered a tostada a la cart for $5.75 and it was fresh with a lot of shredded beef. Well worth it if you're not too hungry. I sampled my cousins asada fries and they were delicious! Lots of flavor and portion size is great. It seems like they cut n peel the potatoes here rather than use the frozen kind. We ordered my a mom combo plate to go with a shredded chicken burrito and 2 beef tacos + beans and rice. She enjoyed it and said the rice and beans had good flavor. Food is okay. Wait times can be a bit inconsistent, but usually pretty fast. Service is pretty good, and they're alright-ish with complicated orders. I usually get the same dish with a few substitutions, and they've forgotten one of my requests the last few times, but it hasn't been a huge issue for me. The food is pretty good, atmosphere is comfortable, but the staff, the staff are the stars of this show. We went in with our daughter and 9 month old son, who recently discovered screaming, so that pushed us to ask for our food to-go. The staff (and some other patrons) reassured us that it was fine and kids will be kids. As our food arrived, the sweetest employee asked if she could hold our baby and walk him around. Of course, I said yes! She was so good with him, walked him around to say hi to other customers, greeted customers at the front, it was a Godsend and we absolutely appreciated it. So the girls can't even adjust the most simple orders and tend to charge more to change things around. One guy asked for cholula on his nachos and they charged 99 cents when it's on the table for free. The orders were wrong...one burrito was missing the salsa..the next was just a simple rice and bean burrito..they charged extra to do rice instead of beans and they forgot the rice! My chile verde nachos has no chile verde in it at all!! It was just plain pork in the worst nachos I've ever had. The birria burrito was the only thing that was okay but I'd say a 3 out of 10...service was terrible. It's a little hole in the wall but it's great. If you know about "cenas" in Mexico, it's the same style, just through out the day. The owners are super friendly and very polite. I ordered the sope and for one, it was huge! And it was actually thick, not a tostada. Oh and their tortillas are homemade. I couldn't finish the sope but it felt like I was eating my mom's food at home. Definitely recommend this place and I'll be back because their salsa is addicting!!!! read more

The food was good & quick. The service was substandard at best. Asked for "to go" containers for our food and the "large" guacamole we ordered. I asked if it was possible to get some chips to take home with the rest of our food and guacamole...WE CHARGE FOR CHIPS TO GO! Seriously? $48 bill & you're going to charge me for a few chips to go? The bowl we originally received before our meal, was 1/3 full of broken pieces to begin with. My thoughts about this restaurant certainly have changed with this bad customer service! Their food is authentic. What I mean is it reminds me of the food I grew up with, so delicious. This is the only restaurant I've been to that has chicken mole on the menu. One of my favorite meals to get and I always have plenty to take home for another meal. Their servers are very attentive and nice. They have made many improvements within this past year and now. I've eaten at this restaurant a few times and every time it has been great. Yesterday I went around 4 and it wasn't real busy. The staff were friendly, as they have been every time I've visited. I was greeted and seated almost as soon as I walked in. The food came out pretty quickly, and was delicious. I love that the enchilada sauce is a bit toned down compared to some other places I've been to in the past. Some places have a real strong taste, but here it's a bit more mild and I really enjoy it! The beans too, taste really good, again a bit mild but I like that. I also love that they offer Pepsi. The place is clean, I know someone has said in their review that it's a bit dated, which in a way maybe, but it has a homely feeling, and it's clean. I always order the Enchiladas at a place I've never had before. It's just good policy. I'm glad I did, because the sauce was super-strong. One of the best enchilada sauces I've come across. The chicken was flavorful, and the rice and beans were OK, not spectacular, but I really don't expect more than edibility out of my rice and beans! Overall, very filling and tasty. Man ain't now way i paid almost 40 dollars for what i got. Pasole literally had two pieces of meat in it. And the munedo portions was so small for both of them to be over 15 dollars an order.
