Very nice cute little spot in old town Clovis. Looks pretty clean. This is the old foster freeze location. With this many tables inside and the amount of people that come here,it can be pretty congested on a busy hour/day so be prepared. I liked the option of spice levels for the chilaquiles. The presentation was lovely. The chilaquiles salsa was good but not great. I personally feel that this dish would be paired great with rice as well, maybe a little less chilaquiles to make room for one more item. Although our serve was attentive when she was able to, the amount of people and what looked like 2 servers for the establishment was simply not enough. Not saying the servers are not more than capable of taking care of the tables, but from a business aspect/customer service point of view, it seemed a little overwhelming and understaffed especially during rodeo weekend. I will be back as I have my eye on another plate I'd like to try. :)) read more

Checked out the new Las Mañanitas location in Clovis and honestly wasn't sure what to expect at first. When we pulled up it almost looked closed and the place was empty, which had me a little worried. But we decided to give it a shot anyway and I'm glad we did. Right away the chips stood out. They had a really good seasoning on them that made it hard to stop eating them before the food even came. Thankfully we were offered a refill on chips. Everything we ordered ended up being solid, full of flavor, and tasted fresh. Definitely one of those spots where the food speaks for itself. I had the Garlic shrimp which were on point. Service was also on point the whole time, super attentive and without being over the top. The lobby and dining area were really clean too, which I always notice. The empty vibe threw me off at first, but the quality is there. After being served two couples came in. I'd for sure come back and hope more people catch on. The place is the old Fosters Freeze and they have really turned the place around. It's an open concept restaurant with new seating and decor. Even the ceiling was redone. They now have solar outside too. The place looks authentic and is well done. The cafe de olla was delicious. The coffee cups adds the perfect authentic feel and charm. Normally I drink creamer with my coffee but I added nothing to my coffee. It was so good. My husband ordered the chilaquiles and I ordered the bandera. You get to choose the spice level. I'm not into spice and I ordered mild. It was mild and delicious. It appeared the chips were fried in house and were perfect. We ended up adding a side of rice. We went back again because their chilaquiles are very good. This time my Comadre invited my daughter and me. We hadn't had a chance to see each other so we decided to have lunch there. The waiter was very kind and helpful. They gave us time from the drinks to time to order. We were kind of busy talking and catching up. So we had an our drinks first. My daughter got a soda and my comadre and I got coffee. They we order our chilaquiles and my daughter got the breakfast plate with egg and pancakes. It also had some bacon or sausage but she skipped it because of lent. She mention the pancakes were fluffy and great. We really enjoyed the food and the coffee. We got refills on them. Came in at 11:30 just after church service. Wait time was about 25-30 min. Was seated in 20 mi. During our visit, they stayed very consistent. Wait time when we were seated turned into 30-45 min. Our server was attentive on checking on us and was able to give us answers to our questions along with recommendations. My menudo was delicious. A group of 10 of us went at lunch time. The wait to be seated was about 5 minutes, but once seated it took a long time to get water. There was another large party there and again it was lunch time on a Thursday. Our waitress was really nice and kept checking in on us. I ordered the chilaquiles. They said they came in different heat levels. They were amazing! I really enjoyed mine. Everyone at the table was satisfied with their food. The chips and salsa were really good too. Amazing chilaquiles and great customer service! This is the second freestanding, Las Mananitas restaurant and I'm so happy they chose Clovis. My wife and I got our food to go, but this place is beautifully decorated and extremely cozy if you prefer to dine in. I went with the chilaquiles with verde pork and my wife ordered the carne asada sopes. The portions here are massive. We literally had enough food for breakfast, lunch, and breakfast the next day. The chips stayed crispy on the long ride home and the chili pork Verde was delicious! Full of flavor and extremely tender. The crunch from the chips added some great texture to what can sometimes be a mushy plate. I did have a bite of my wife's sopes and they nailed the texture. Dense but not chewy and full of corn flavor. These paired with the rice and beans made this the perfect breakfast and lunch meal. I'd definitely come back here again for breakfast and highly suggest it to anybody wanting to avoid the long waits at other Old Town Clovis breakfast and brunch spots. read more

Wow! We tried this place for the first time hearing it was getting good reviews in our town. We were impressed! It was a little busy for a Monday night and just one server was on the floor. She greeted us quickly and was honest that she was a little busy but would be back to take our order. We were very pleased with the food. Torta Ahogada was INSANE! So good! Full of flavor and tender carnitas. My husband enjoyed his fish tacos. Rice and beans were standard but got that means good and got the job done. Interior is quaint. Heard about this place from my friend and decided to try it. We went on a busy Sunday morning and the first thing I got my attention was a friendliness of the staff Tip: they keep a list of the specials towards the front counter, so make sure you go in there to see what they have available. Today was freshly made Menudo. They did a great job redecorating this place cause it used to be a foster freeze and the artwork and the seating is pretty good. It's pretty tight in here so if there's a long line, you'll have to wait outside depending on the weather. We had the chilaquiles regular and deluxe with chili verde. They were actually pretty good and the service is really fast and we got our food within a reasonable amount of time. They do have cafe de la hoya... which is a little more sweet and I like it, but has that cinnamon flavor and they run about five bucks a cup. The food was pretty good and it was very impressed with the chili Verde, it was cooked all the way through and very tasty. We saw several other plates, including the Menudo, the huevos rancheros, and the chips were actually really fresh and the salsa was good. Price point, all three meals ran us about $66 plus the coffee, which isn't too bad for Clovis. If you combine the service, the location and the food this place is really good. This is a very small restaurant, so if you want to be seated quickly, I recommend arriving before 9:30 a.m. We waited about 10 minutes for a table, which wasn't too bad, but the limited seating and tight space were noticeable right away. As soon as you walk in, you can see the open kitchen, which allows you to watch the food being prepared and served. At first, I was excited because the place has a cute, authentic Mexican vibe. They even serve coffee in traditional ceramic Mexican mugs, which was a nice touch. The service, however, felt a bit chaotic. I'm not sure if they were short-staffed, but everyone seemed a little all over the place. Our food took about 25 minutes to come out. Even before we were seated, I noticed several tables still waiting on their food, which made me expect a longer wait--and that ended up being the case. I ordered the classic red chilaquiles, and overall, they met my expectations. I know what authentic chilaquiles should look and taste like--my mom is Mexican and makes them at home--so I felt these were pretty close. They were served with eggs and refried beans, and you can choose your spice level. I ordered medium, which had a nice kick. My mom ordered the green chilaquiles with mild spice. I tried them, and they were also very good, though surprisingly spicier than the red chilaquiles I had. My dad ordered the menudo and was disappointed. He felt it tasted canned rather than homemade, which was especially disappointing given the restaurant's very authentic Mexican feel. One highlight was the handmade flour and corn tortillas--they were amazing, full of flavor, and definitely worth ordering if you visit. We also tried the "Mom's Special," which was very good and came with generous portions and great flavor. My brother ordered the asada burrito. It was decent but nothing exceptional--just an average burrito. The asada tasted a bit different from what I'm used to, but it was still okay. To finish, I ordered a short stack of pancakes. They were fine, though a bit rubbery. For a Mexican restaurant, they were acceptable. Well my friends finally tried a new place in Clovis called Las Mananitas. Now if you're really hungry and want very nice size servings this is the place. I was really impressed with what they did with the old Foster's Freeze, it really looks nice! The place is small so when it's full, it gets pretty loud - even with the acoustic tiles on the upper walls. We were a party of 6 walking in early on a Friday evening so we were seated pretty quickly. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The woman behind the counter told us that they wanted to pay homage to the history of Foster's Freeze so all of their drinks are served in the metal milkshake cups which was a nice touch. We were given chips and salsa almost immediately upon being seated, then our drink order was taken. The food came out quickly however... Chips: 6/10 - crunchy but tasted like they used old oil Salsa: 7.5/10 - good flavor, not a lot of spice Bottled Beers: 10/10 - no complaints Horchata: 8/10 - kids thought it was too grainy and heavy on the cinnamon Kids Taco Plate: 6/10 - carnitas was bland Kids Quesadilla Plate: 6/10 - kids said it tasted like what they get in the school cafeteria Burrito El Rodeo: 3/10 - it was "hard to cut through", bland, and caused some stomach issues after eating half of it. Unfortunately, it was thrown away. Steak Fajitas: 4/10 - Great portion size (aside from only getting two tortillas with it) but bland Enchilada Combo: 8/10 - Great portion size; taco was very bland and kind of crumbled apart; the enchiladas and rice were tasty; I did like the beans but they were a bit on the salty side. If you order a molcajete the food is for sure sizzling hot and in this cold weather it's much appreciated. I've been to both places and of the two I like the ambiance in this one better. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants in the area! I love coming here for breakfast. The chilaquiles are so good and you can choose red or green sauce and if you want them mild, medium or hot. It comes with a side of beans which are always delicious. Service is usually really friendly. They get super busy so sometimes it can be a bit slow to order or get the check but the food comes out quick after you do order. Apparently a second location for this Mexican spot that just opened in the old Foster's Freeze spot on Clovis Ave. It's a sit-down place with waiters. We went on a Wednesday night and were seated immediately. Wasn't too busy. Chips and salsa were brought to the table and were pretty good. The chips had been fresh fried at some point but weren't freshly done. I ordered cheese enchiladas that came with rice and beans. My husband got the chicken fajitas. His fajitas came with what looked like homemade tortillas but only 2. His came with rice and beans as well. He said there wasn't a ton of chicken, but for the price I think it was decent. My enchiladas didn't have a lot a cheese in them, but the sauce tasted authentic, only a little on the vinegary side. Prices were decent for dinner. Unfortunately, they are still working on their liquor license so no margaritas to be had. Very cute decor, newly redone, and service was great. read more

The huevos rancheros were equally impressive--two eggs layered over a crisp fried tortilla and topped with a bell-pepper salsa, plated with refried beans and perfectly seasoned papas. Every dish showcased balanced spices and high-quality ingredients that were both comforting and memorable. And the café de olla? Absolute perfection. It's beautifully decorated with tiles of Talavera and spanish music fills the dining room. Their menu offers new items as well as their classic dishes and they now serve beer. They are now open 7 days a week and for dinner at this location. The salsa is spicy as it should be. We had the chicharrones en salsa roja (red chile sauce) and chilaquiles en salsa roja con carne asada with homemade corn tortillas and a michelada. Delicious! As always, the service is on point. There's little that isn't available to me and I'm always paying attention to the differences, NOT the similarities of one restaurant to another. Those differences can be MAGIC! By reading reviews on yelp and looking at pictures, I stumbled across their original location on Hazelwood Boulevard in Fresno. It was the most humble of restaurants and the proving grounds for what to become some of the most remarkable food being served in Fresno! The owners Anna along with her husband, Allen, have worked many long hours and years perfecting the food that was being served at that original small location. It was always packed! The parking was not good, and their dining room had probably four tables... Man was it busy! What a joy it's been to support the business through reviews and encouragement over the years and to watch them grow. This is bucket list food, and you don't want to die before trying it. The recipes and the quality of the food is remarkable and you won't find anything similar with some distinctions.... This is ethnic cooking at its best. Did you ever have a family member from the 'old country' or go over somebody's house where they were making something so completely different from what you've ever had before that it was an memorable eye-opener? You longed for that amazing food even years later remembering how good it was... That is what it's like here! Each dish is a custom creation, you select your level of spice, exactly how your eggs are to be cooked.. today I visited the new location in Clovis and it's a beautiful addition to the city. Thankfully, there are NO tvs or loud music getting in the way of 'simple pleasures' enjoying the food and actually being able to talk to someone across the table! Today I had the "Chilaquiles Deluxe" with Pork verde and red sauce on the Chiliques. Choose green if you like... It's served with 2 eggs, refried beans, Cota cheese and sour cream. I add onions to virtually everything as I'm into them and appreciate the added texture they bring. For me, textures (variations in food) are as important as the flavors. I'm always seeking texture in what I might be eating. One difference worth noting is that the Pork Verde (both locations) is cooked with the bones. It imparts a richness and flavor that is unmatched and can NOT be duplicated any other way. Remember that 'ethnic cook' from the old country good meal that you STILL remember years later? That's what this version does! The dish came out with chunks that had no bone along with a few that did. Since it's fork tender, just set the bones aside and enjoy! Get it with asada, chicken or carnitas, too! I Could NOT be more happy for Anna and Allen (wife and hubby owners). These folks have poured everything into their business, worked sometimes 7-days a week, 18 hours a day but you'd never know it. They are some of the most kind, humble, friendly, passionate folks and deserve every bit of success. God is blessing them and He blessed me too in having stumbled across their food years ago! Perhaps you're jaded like me, hyper-aware and like noting the distinctions that make something substantially different in quality, taste, overall experience? Amazing. So far everything I've tried has been good. I find it hard to find consistently good Mexican restaurants. My family and I don't get take out often. We've come back three times because we enjoyed it so much. They make homemade flour and corn tortillas. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The open kitchen is nice to see.
