Normally I just order their shredded beef empanadas, which are my favorite of all time, so I was curious to see if I'd like their soup. I loved it! Not only was it flavorful but it was also filling. From arepas to cachapas, empanadas to cachitos, tostadas to croquetas, they have a little bit of everything with of course, a south Florida twist. Pro tip, make sure to get your cachitos while they're hot (literally). You'll get a nice and warm cachito with melted and salty cheese. Be sure to pair with a colada and get ready to come out energized with a sugar rush. My favorite here is the pan de bono *****literally drooling****. It's so soft, airy and crispy. I used to go to this Don Pan location many moons ago so being in the area, I just had to stop by and get an arepa. I ordered an Arepa Pabellon which is stuffed with shredded beef, white cheese, sweet plantains and black beans. However, I opted out the beans. I have been looking for nice bakery for quite sometime now in and around Sunrise area. I am glad that I found this place. They have different desserts, pastries, snacks, breakfast, coffee, fresh juice and many more. It is a nice clean place with good staff. We got cuatro leches ($3.75), charlotte sweet ($3.75) and cortadito ($3.25) mini size. I would say this is the best price and best food. Typically we only order food out for dinner but was in the mood for something different for breakfast. We decided on Don Pan, which I haven't had since I used to live in Miami. I was really hungry when the food arrived but it was pretty good. -mango juice: pretty good, very thick more like a nectar, I watered it down a bit and that basically tripled the amount it came with -scrambled eggs, shredded beef, arepa, and beans: all very tasty. The only thing with significant room for improvement was the black beans. The beans were still a bit tough so they need to be cooked longer -Cuban sandwich: I would recommend maybe getting fresh vs for delivery as it got a little soggy on one end in the take out bag. The sandwich itself was eh. The bread wasn't the freshest and not pressed well. Love a good Arepa and the variety in Venezuelan and Cuban pastry you can't go wrong. My go-to is the Pabellon rice, beans, plantains, and shredded beef.. what more can you ask for? This is a place I can only come sparingly. There are so many yummy pastries, and latin bakery favorites that you don't know where to even begin. Their empanadas are amazing as well as their cafe con leche. It was busy, but the line moved quickly. After you order, you have to wait for your items if they need to be heated or prepared. The cafe-bistro and bakery opened up over two decades ago, with six locations in Miami-Dade. It ventured out and opened a location in Broward several years ago; the only one thus far. This one is on the outskirts of the Sawgrass Mills Mall in Sunrise. In addition to a full cafe menu, and fresh juices, Don Pan offers a large variety of sandwiches, hot pastries, deli items and many more Spanish-Venezuelan specialty foods. It also bakes cakes, tiramisu, flan, the delicious brazo gitano, and other sweet treats. I usually take my food To-Go, but there is seating available. The wait time can be long and this is an area that they unfortunately don't have much improvement on through the years. That stated, I really enjoy their food quality! On any given day I will pick up a large order of cachitos de jamón, chicken, meat, and spinach empanadas, pan de bono, and croquetas. My favorite pick for the holidays is the hallacas; a cornmeal-based tamale wrapped in plantain leaf. They are filled with lean cuts of chicken, pork shoulder and/or bacon, beef chuck or sirloin, olives, capers, raisins--all separately seasoned and stewed with onions, garlic, cilantro & other spices, and shredded or chopped. There are variations of the condiments and ingredients that go in the hallacas, but I haven't found a better combination, or a more generous portion of the filling in our area. First time here. Know most of the items. However most were NOT labeled. Although I may know ingredients of certain pastries, I don't know the names of them all. So, when I order and say cheese bread, the cashier tells me what it's named. Great, why don't you label your trays for non-Hispanic customers? I have come to love this place from time to time but it's strongest appeal to me has been taken away. They no longer carry the shredded chicken pastelito. The reason this was essential was because other than this item and the amazing empanadas ,Panna has better cachitos, tequenos, arepas, and salsa verde of course. So I usually make the extra drive over there. If you have a sweet tooth however, you are in for an amazing surprise. They have the best Venezuelan sweets in the Sawgrass area. They also make a mean coffee. I don't venture past their baked goods because as a soup fanatic I can honestly say that the soups are ok at best. I'm just visiting Miami/Ft Lauderdale and cousin told me this is a good place to go to get pastries and sandwiches. I got an arepa with shredded beef, cheese, plantains and black beans. It was shift sandwich at a great price! I also purchased and array of empanadas and cookies to bring back to my cousin. The service was excellent! Everyone was so helpful explaining what the different pastries are. I was told I need to try a colada while I am out here since I am a huge coffee fanatic. I ended up trying the colada, cortadito, and cafe con leche all in one sitting. Cafe con leche: coffee with milk. Cortadito: espresso with milk. Colada: Very concentrated espresso stirred really fast with sugar until it's high octane jet fuel. The colada, let me tell you, was a coffee lover's dream. If you like Vietnamese coffee, this is similar. Colada seems a bit more concentrated to me and they don't use condensed milk, just sugar. What I thought made for a really cool experience is that they gave me tiny shot cups about size of one of those individual coffee creamers (see my pic). They told me the colada is meant to be taken in shots because of how strong it is. I was in Don Pan cafe for about an hour sampling the different items I picked out. All the employees were really nice. even though I'm sure they were giggling over all the food pics I was taking, they didn't make me feel weird or out of place. Where to start with this place.... you just never know.... The main thing that makes me give this place a low rating is their lack of consistency when it comes to service and food quality. We are Venezuelan so we keeep coming to this place to keep indulging ourselves in familiar flavors. But if we had another Venezuelan place closer to home, we'd probably stop coming. My advice is: Come here for the empanadas (any flavor) and the cachitos. We've tried several things at this place and it's just disappointing. Just stick to those 2 and you're safe. Plus, whenever the people that work there are having a character building day, they feel like if they are rude to you, they're going to feel better. Maybe if they improved customer service, we wouldn't mind their lack of consistency when it comes to the food. Wanted some coffee and croquettes so I stopped in the other day. I ordered an iced coffee with milk but it had way too much milk and very little coffee. I got ham croquettes and they were good but also picked up an chicken empanada and it wasn't good. I also don't speak Spanish and trying to order the two employees looked at me like I was crazy. Their website advertises the Don Pan Burger and when I tried to order they said they don't have and I didn't understand what the cashier was trying to tell me. You shouldn't have something on your website if you can't order it in store. I also that the staff should be able to understand English a lot better, not everyone who goes I. Speaks Spanish. I get that this is a Latin bakery but there are a lot of non Spanish speaking residents in the area who once in a while get a craving for Latin pastries.
