Went on a Friday night for the 1st time for drinks only. We sat at the bar. Beautiful mural! My husband ordered margaritas and I ordered ranch water. Both were delicious. The chips and salsa were good. We prefer the salas to be a bit more spicy. The female bartenders were very busy but yet attentive to us. Teresa (i believe was the bartender's name) was very friendly. We would definitely go again. Another plus for us, we are of Mexican descent, they actually played spanish music! We enjoy Mexican cuisine so we were looking forward to trying this new restaurant in New Lenox. The decor is nice, nothing fancy. There is a beautiful hand painted mural on the wall behind the bar. My partner ordered a Chile Relleno and I had a Beef Enchilada. We also had calamari as an appetizer. I thought the calamari was good, my partner wasn't fond of it. I would have preferred that it came with a different dipping sauce. The Beef Enchilada was "ok". It had "different" flavor to it, something in the spices...I wasn't fond of it. The rice was good and so were the refried beans. The prices were a bit high. The service was very good. read more

Our first visit to Don Jose was very good. We were seated quickly and did not have to wait for service. they have a good variety of food and drinks. The dining room is very well appointed with high ceilings and a lovely floor. The chips and salsa are amazing, som of the best I've ever had, especially the chips which are crispy and light. we ordered our meal and were served quickly ,the burrito was delicious and the meat was exceptionally tender. The tacos which my wife ordered were very goo. It was a good value,the service was excellent and we enjoyed our meal. Highly recommended. read more

Great ambience, food, service and owners. A "must try" if you haven't already! A great selection of margaritas and creative entrees.

Service was wonderful but the food and drinks left much to be desired. My Margarita was horrible. I had the basic one and it tasted so off putting i couldn't finish it. Super sour and zero tequila. I had a crispy fish taco which was delicious but the el pastor taco was gross. The sauce was bitter and the pinapple was sour. The person I was with had the cheese enchiladas and said they were good but not something he'd come back for. I will say the chips and salsa were amazing though. I'll give it another try if only to get the chips and salsa again. read more

We had dinner at Don Jose's last night and everything was delicious. We started with salsa and guacamole. Salsa had a nice texture and the guacamole was very fresh. Tried the Elote Fritters and I could have eaten that for my meal. They were like cornbread dough that were deep fried. Soft on the inside and crispy outside. Fantastic. After that, our group tried a variety of tacos for dinner. I really liked the pork belly but need to go back and try all the others. For dessert, we tried them all. They were all great but my favorite was the Crispy Bunuelo & Horchata Gelato Sandwich. Service was great. Our waitress was on the ball...checking with us occasionally to see if we needed anything else. Loved the art work and decor. And we could carry on a conversation. Not like some restaurants where the music is so loud that you have to yell. We will be back for sure. read more

The service was excellent. The Ambiance was get em in and get em out. This brings us to the food we ordered. I ordered the burrito bowl. When it was served, and being very hungry I dove into it. To my surprise, and after the first scoop, I realized the meat was raw. It was gross, and still bleeding! The staff agreed, and sent me a replacement. The second bowl was very average. I have to admit, I did loose my apatite. So, my wife and I agreed that Don Jose would not be a place we would go to for Mexican food. Definitely will not be one of regular go to's. Everything was just OK. A bit overpriced, especially their Margarita's. I often eat alone and I ordered a Taco Plate (three beef tacos with rice and beans) and a Regular Margarita. My bill with 20 percent tip was almost $35.00. Not budget friendly. Really wanted to give more stars than this, but couldn't. Overall food was pretty good, but priced way too high for the amount served. We both had chicken burritos ($18 each!). Definitely not over stuffed with food (could have been more). Rice and beans were kind of on the slim pickens too. Alcohol is over priced ($12 house Marg/$6 Modelo). Chips and salsa some of the best I've had. The service was good. Ambiance cool. VERY LOUD. Seems to be a constant line after 6 so go earlier. Unfortunately we won't be back. read more

Was looking for a local mexican place to grab a bite. Saw that this place had just opened up. I was greeted with a smile, I was then brought some amazing fresh chips and salsa... to die for! Pair that with the homemade guac, a terrific start to a great meal. The ambiance is wonderful and the service is impeccable. Food came out hot and the margaritas were tasty! Place is decorated nice. Not too loud. Greeted right away. Server was very polite but was clearly lost in her role. The food is why this place get a 1 but should be a zero. We like Joeys for what it is...a hot dog joint. And since this is the same owner thought we'd give it a try. Local ownership and all. Unfortunately everything from this place is out of a can or jar. Absolutely tasteless food. Margaritas are thin with nothing to them. Prices are not super high but when considering the quality of the food it would be high by my standards. Hopeful New Lenox would finally get something good but this place is worse than all the national chain crap we already have. Will continue to go to other towns to get tasty quality food. read more

Service was excellent. The apps were spot on. The elote fritters were excellent and the jalapeño aioli was awesome!! The tacos I ordered were hot and fresh. Hidden gem the crispy fish taco was excellent. The crispy pork belly taco had perfect texture and heat. Also the decor was awesome. The mural behind the bar is pretty pretty pretty great. Should've know this place was gonna be white washed from the moment I asked if they Jarritos and they said they didn't even know what is was, but anyways the food here was so unbelievably expensive for the most mediocre tacos I've ever eaten in my entire life, well I didn't even eat the tacos because my shell was undercooked, soggy and fell apart. Also since they didn't wanna mention it on the menu there's a $2 up charge for there tacos so our $7 tacos turned into $15. Save your money and time and go to El Sombraro down the road for real authentic Mexican food!!!! read more

I will start with the ambiance which is nice, new and clean. The service left a bit to be desired but it was day 2 of being open so I am taking that into consideration. The food was mediocre, nothing special. I ordered a beef burrito which was accompanied by a tablespoon of rice and beans; serving size left a bit to be desired. Here is why this restaurant received one star and a vow not to return...husband ordered steak fajitas ($25). It came with three tortillas and same serving size of rice and beans. No lettuce, tomato, sour cream or cheese. Asked for the SC and cheese, received thimble of SC and cheese (made one taco that's it). Charge in the receipt, $2 for dollop of SC and $4 for a teaspoon of shredded cheese. The price is not worth the visit. Don't even get me started on the price of a margarita compared to its size!! Three meals and three margaritas = $140 bill!! Dine someplace else. read more

We stopped in randomly for lunch and the experience was not great. After we ordered our meal the waiter said our food would be more than what the menu showed. I said no problem but thought it was odd. The food was terrible and my son actually spit out his taco. My vegetarian taco had raw sweet potatoes and a very nasty "salsa" that looked like baby food and tasted like rubbing alcohol and my son thought it smelled like it too. When he brought this up to our waiter he leaned over our plates and fingered our food we did not like. It was just weirdest experience we had at a restaurant. Just came from dinner at Don Jose's and it was excellent. The service people were knowledgeable, efficient and very polite. Our food was out of this world, from the appetizers to the entree and dessert. The manager was friendly and made sure to stop by our table several times checking on service and our meals. This is definitely our new go to place. Can't think of a single negative word. read more

Went to Don Jose's for the first time last night. Wait staff was really great but the kitchen lost our order "in the computer" so we had to wait ~45 minutes until the server discovered the issue and rushed our tacos through. When everything arrived the food was lackluster IMO (even my teenage boys weren't real impressed and they eat everything all the time).... The meat in the carne asada taco tasted like it had been boiled instead of grilled, the mushroom taco tasted like it was made with canned mushrooms instead of fresh cut/sautéed, and they HEAVILY sprinkle their tacos with a real pungent powdered cheese. It overpowered a lot of the flavors in the taco below. The waiter offered to comp the kids a free dessert. We ordered two, and then he brought one dessert with two spoons in it. At that point we just wanted to leave so I let it go. REALLY wanted to like this place but our first experience was a bit hampered. Maybe we'll try them again in 4-6 months. We stopped here Sunday for lunch and we really wanted to love this place. They messed up my drink, I ordered a skinny margarita but asked instead of the splash of diet soda if I could have soda water. I told the server all other ingredients were fine. What I got was tequila and soda in a margarita glass, the other ingredients were left out and I could barely taste the tequila. The guacamole seemed like it came out of a package, it had no flavor at all. There was no tomato, onion or anything else in it. I ordered three tacos, one was shrimp and chorizo and it literally had three shrimp the size of a nickel and not even a teaspoon of chorizo. It was pathetic. The carne asada taco lacked flavor and was loaded with radishes. What seemed to be the owner sat at the bar and watched tv and stared at his phone the whole time. You would think new restaurant that he would have been walking around and being interactive, I got a vibe that he really didn't care. Sad to say we won't be going back. read more

Tried out the new place and it was very good. Even though they were busy, food and drinks came in a timely manner. Chips a little greasy, but good. Salsa was good. I like they have other salsas listed you can get. I tried the habanero and it was good. Tasted like it had honey and lime in it. Will def try more next time. Margaritas were good too. It's a bustling place so don't expect a quiet evening out. The only thing that is a bummer as there is no dietary information at all on the menu. That's the reason for 4 stars. Nothing is marked. Not vegetarian, not vegan, not allergens, etc. My bf has celiacs disease so it's always appreciated when things are marked gf. Even chips should be marked since a lot of places cross contaminate them by cooking other things in the fryer. I like vegetarian choices so it's difficult to know if the beans had meat in them, or animal fat, (which a lot of them do), etc. I think if a little more care went into the menu in that regard they would have a real gem! Other than that, we will be back. Food was good, prices fair for what you got, and service was great. I'm glad New Lenox has a nice little spot like this! Just work on listing ingredients and allergens on the menu ;) read more
