By default the best Mexican restaurant in New Lenox because there's not much in the way of any competition. It doesn't have anything especially good but it has competent food at least. Pico De Gallo has the expected favorites like burritos and tacos. Okay prices on most of the items. They also do catering for big parties. I picked up something here to go at lunch. Many customers were getting carryout and there were few dining in which wasn't surprising because it was pretty dull inside and there's not much lighting so it's hard to see. The menu has the basic stuff. Burritos are the main thing it seems because the menu has a big section on it. There's also tacos of course and tamales. I had a Veggie Burrito. It's $9.95 for a pretty big one. This has beans, cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Make it vegan by leaving off cheese. The burrito is plenty for one person. Good to get a pretty fast bite and carryout. It seems pretty dead in the dining room. Taking it home with you seems to be the best way to do things. read more

Pico De Gallo is a carry out Mexican restaurant in New Lenox that features counter service with about 6 tables to sit at. Unlike the city, which features an authentic Mexican restaurant like this one on every block, I'm guessing Pico De Gallo is a stand-out in this area because of the surrounding demographic. There is certainly nothing wrong with this spot. The menu is relatively conservative and features the standards - tacos, burritos, tortas, sopes and a few entrees - carne asada, quesabirria tacos, etc... My wife ordered the quesabirria tacos - which were served with consume - and also a side of rice. I ordered two chicken tacos, served "authentic style" with onions and cilantro. The food is freshly prepared, so there was a slight wait, but nothing to complain about. My wife's quesabirria tacos were loaded with pot roast and cheese, and the consume was not overly salty or greasy. They were definitely delicious. My chicken tacos were just okay. I work on/around 73rd and Cicero, so I've had my fair share of really good tacos. While there was nothing wrong with my tacos, they were just bland. Their hot sauce was good (not great), and I wound up using a whole container on my tacos to give them some flavor. I was really on the fence about giving Pico De Gallo 4 or 3 stars, but the decision for 3 stars was made after looking at our receipt. $35 dollars for our lunch was a little steep. My tacos were $5/ea and my wife's quesabirria tacos were $16. That didn't include rice or beans. Again, maybe I'm biased because of all the tacos spots I hit around work that offer a superior product for a third of the cost. I'm sure the owners of Pico De Gallo did their homework on where they were opining their restaurant, and the cost of their food is most definitely a result of what their market will support. In other words... the folks in New Lenox probably don't blink an eye at spending $5 dollars for a taco. Took my family here last night and the food was okay but the prices are ridiculously high. We ended up paying $110 and for that price I could have taken them to a Brazilian Steakhouse instead. I asked for extra chips and the waitress was like "Just know that's going to be $1.50 extra". If you use your card to pay you will be charged an additional 4% for that. Absolutely horrible I ordered a Carna Asada dinner you couldn't even eat it. It was very chewy couldn't even cut it with a knife. I paid $over $24 for that meal and when I brought it to the woman's attention behind the counter, she said, do you want me to have them put it back on the grill? I said the meat is not any good it's very chewy that is not going to help. I couldn't get back on the grill. She said well, we never had anyone else complain about it And I said I go to a lot of Mexican restaurants and I know what it should taste like. So then she says, what else would you like and I suggest chicken enchiladas so it took them a while to make the chicken enchiladas when I got it they put the green moly sauce all over it it was very spicy I got up and I told her and she threw her arms up in the air and I say don't you have like the red sauce and she says no we only have that sauce and she says that's one of our popular dishes. And I said, I can't even eat it. It's very spicy. So I had to end up picking out the chicken. I will never ever come back here again. Again, the service was awesome and the food fantastic. We ordered the chicken fajitas, flour tortillas, guacamole, chips and salsa. We had plenty of food and had many compliments. I just finished my meal from Pico de Gallo, first visit, and was impressed with the flavors of the meal. It's not in my neighborhood but plan on making this my regular stop as the extra travel is worth the quality of the food. The tortillas did not fall apart while eating, a good sign of freshness, great tacos, rice, and beans. I have to add that the salsas were equally tasty, and not watered down as I've experienced at other places. My daughter and I went here for the first time as a lunch date. We both got the "authentic tacos" and guacamole/chips as an appetizer. Everything was freshly made. The guac and chips are delicious. For their lunch menu the portions were very large. The food and homemade sauces were very good! They're red hot sauce was unique it almost tasted like there was tamarind in it. I know Mexican food, and I'll tell you, this place whips it up pretty good, below is my breakdown: Burritos: I had the steak burrito + cilantro. Everything was extremely fresh! The steak was very juicy and seasoned just right....no complaints! Tamales: We purchased a pork tamale just to give it a try.....I'd rate it 8-10! BTW....My top tamale spots are "el milagro" on 26th street, and "Doña Maria Rest" in Vegas. Tacos: Steak tacos were fresh, however, extremely greasy. I mentioned this to one of the workers, and they provided extra tortillas at the drop of a dime. The beans and rice were ok. I'd definitely return! TIP! When ordering tacos, ask for no grease, cause they really splash them tortillas full of it. Other than that, it's a big win! I love this place! We live right down the street, so my kids frequent here. The woman who is always there is incredibly nice. They all treat my kids well and always are accommodating. As far as the food, I love the steak tacos. They are very flavorful and juicy. And the cinnamon desert is delicious. Good service and good food. Really can't ask for more. By far some of the best Mexican food I've had. People complaining about the price -- this is how much tacos, burritos, etc, are at a real Mexican restaurant. If you want cheaper, head to taco bell for fake Mexican. I love the steak tacos and burritos. I wish you got more pico with the $3 chips and pico deal (always more chips than pico!). I friggin love this place!!!! My hubbers and I go here as often as possible and any time my daughter is in town - she and her girlfriend stop there as well. The owner here is so sweet and clearly so dedicated to her business. I love it! That's what we wanna see - that's the kind of person we want to give our money to and the food - I mean c'mon! As a frequent soul in search of great mexican food, this little hidden gem popped up in our neighborhood! Tried this place out today and have nothing but a positive review! Friendly, prompt, food was HOT, and a welcoming atmosphere. Small inside buy worth it. Not sure what it would be like during a rush but for now it a two thumbs up! Excellent! The tacos de carne asada were great! While I am also not a huge fan of the price, sadly that is what it costs today, of course I wish we go could back to when they were a $1 a Taco but we can't. Love the hot sauce, no need for mild. The rice is really good. I am also not a fan of the no chips and salsa when dining in but it seems to be the norm in this area. The salsa is great though but be wary if you can't handle the hot! Most importantly though, they have Jarritos and in Fresa! Not all Mexican restaurants carry strawberry if they have them. When Pico De Gallo first opened I tried it a few times. I thought the food was definitely above average for a taco joint, but the prices were a little steep. After not going there for a few months I had a taste for Mexican and it sounded good. This time I ordered a beef burrito, a small order of rice and two orders of chips n salsa. The food was not as good as when they first opened and my bill was pushing $18. I have to say I'm probably done w Pico. If I would have brought the whole family it would've been pushing $75. I don't understand all of the 5 star reviews. I ordered the fish tacos. They were really good, but a bit spicy.. but extremely over priced at $4.25 EACH!! No complimentary chips n salsa. WOW. My husband had the chicken burrito. Horrible!!! I tasted it.. all I could taste was refried beans. The little bit of chicken tasted like canned meat. Just gross. Horchata was excellent. I love this hidden gem! The al pastor is perfectly cooked and the pico de Gallo is not hot it has the right amount of spice. The steak was delicious but slightly too much onions for my liking but I should have said something when ordering. The chicken was not dry. The chips are homemade with the perfect crunch.
