Can here to celebrate a friends birthday. Everything was fantastic! the chips & salsa were some of the best. My group all enjoyed their meals from our appetizers, main course, desserts & drinks! This place will be our new regular Mexican food spot.

First time visit: Sat at the bar, the bartender, Karen aka Kirin - wink, side joke, was very friendly, informational and open to chatting. Ordered the Roasted Salmon with rice and veggies.....a bit too much sodium for me...if lower, I could have polished it off. I will be back for other items on the menu to balance my review.

Good was great. My fav was the corn fritters they have a unique taste. Service was good and very tentative. I had a strawberry basil drink so delicious. The music wasn't too loud which I liked . Will definitely return.

Not traditional by any means, but does have a more Americanized take to the food. Flavors were great!

I went again to this god awful restaurant. I wanted to see if it would be better if I went again. Nope. The hostess I asked her name (it was ava) was RUDE. She told me she wanted to fuck the waiter.... super weird. Then went on to ASK ME FOR A TIP...... I will never be returning and telling everyone I know not to go here. Thanks bitchass.

Super skimpy shrimp taco for $7

Really wanted to like this place but. Nah. Food was pretty bad. Staff and drinks were good. Chips and salsa were good. But omg the tacos... shrimp and chorizo were $7 each and barely had any meat. Al pastor taco pretty nasty. The shell fell apart halfway through. Lots of fat and gristle. Chicken taco wasn't good. Even the steak taco was flavorless and super greasy. Even the rice wasn't good. It was like hard. Beans were good

Description and price of tacos ordered
    April M.

My husband and I just had dinner at the New Mexican Restaurant in New Lenox, Don Jose's. This is not your typical taco and enchilada restaurant. When seated you are given a basket of chips and dish of salsa. The salsa puts a little zing on the tongue, but not your typical salsa. I think it is better described as a salsa purée. My husband and I started with an appetizer of chicken empanadas ($10.00). I rounded off my dinner with 2 tacos; one Al Pastor and one crispy pork belly, both on corn tortillas ($11.50). My husband ordered the beef burrito grande ($18.00) and 2 Modelo Negro ($12.00) The crispy pork belly was sooo delicious with a little kick, I can't wait to have it again. (Read the description in the photos) The Al Pastor was just ok for me. My husband had no complaints with the burrito and happily took half his meal home for lunch tomorrow. Just an FYI, the to-go boxes are NOT microwaveable. They are cardboard, but have a wax coating inside. This is in the old Chicago Dough Pizza, next to Sherwin Williams on Rt 30. It has been beautifully remodeled, and now has a bar where a salad bar used to be. The colorful mural behind the bar and at the front door just add to the ambience. In a nut shell, delicious, with an elevated flavor palette, great wait staff that appeared highly organized, especially for opening night with fast and friendly service. However, if we had small children, I don't know that we would take them there. Although, they could possibly make special off menu orders for kids ‍. We highly suggest giving them a try. We will be going back.

    Cucumber margarita
    Arianne J.

Tried this place this past weekend and I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of seating and decorative art. I chose to sit at the bar. The bartender was amazing and made the BEST cucumber margarita I have ever had. The chips and salsa were great, the beans were great, but I probably wouldn't get the Barria tacos again. The meat was not as tender as it should have been, which was kind of a bummer.

We stood at the door for about 20 minutes before someone finally told us the wait would be 1-2 hours. Keep in mind, the place is pretty small and already crowded, so there's barely any room to stand while you wait. After getting on the waitlist, we decided to go to a nearby spot for food--but not even 5 minutes later, we got called back saying our table was ready. When we returned, we were seated along the wall in a very tight space--so tight that if I stretched my arm out, I would've hit the person next to me. We noticed a large table nearby had been sitting for a while without food. When their food finally came out, it made us realize our wait would probably be even longer. After another 20 minutes passed and we still hadn't been able to order, we decided to leave. I'm not sure the space is fully ready for the rush right now--it feels overcrowded and service is slow. I'll give it another try once the hype dies down. I'm happy for their success, though--just be prepared to be patient when you go.

My server was pretty slow and seemed distracted, sometimes gone for 20 minutes at a time. I basically had to lock eyes with him just to get his attention. He was a younger guy, so hopefully he tightens that up. Also, if someone notes in their reservation that they're bringing a baby and a car seat, it would make more sense to seat them at a booth instead of in the middle of the restaurant, especially when booths are open. Overall, I'd say it was about a 7/10 experience.

This is meant to be your crazy expensive birthday bash or celebration, not an every day place. We are lucky to have a gem like this in Schaumburg with very busy servers who try their absolute best to give you a flashy service with delicious food. Are you seriously expecting this to be $50 meal for four? No way. There are many places you can get the same thing. Every time I've gone here, I've spent good money that I worked hard for, and have had great memories in the process. If you're expecting a simple Mexican restaurant, this is not your place. This is high end and very busy. Make a reservation, call in advance to make sure it's set. OpenTable is used by many restaurants, so you can't blame this restaurant for OpenTable's mistakes. The Los Tres Huastecos was PHENOMENAL. The Camarones Calavera was really fun to watch, experience, and eat. I don't drink, but my family loved their flashy drinks (the Deseo was their favorite). They made sure my father felt special on his birthday with a sash, a custom menu (which we requested for in advance with our reservation), and most servers took a moment to say happy birthday even when they weren't serving our table!! Chris was a fantastic server who despite being very busy, did a wonderful job with his service. I won't defend a place for no reason; I truly had a wonderful time that deserves its praise. I research everywhere I go, so obviously when my paycheck hasn't cleared, I'm not going here. But you also wouldn't go to Fogo De Chao or Hell's Kitchen and expect it to be as cheap as my burger at a Chili's (which I love as well). (Also for the comments about the guac, I do agree, but I've also seen the same size portion at other chains for the same price. *cough* south of the boarder *cough*)

We went all in and ordered one of the giant shareable drinks for our group of six. It was definitely worth it for the experience, though a bit light on alcohol given the size. Pro tip: order a round of shots too--they serve them in this awesome airplane presentation, which just adds to the fun. Food-wise, everything was really solid. The octopus was a standout--perfectly cooked and super flavorful. The only letdown was the salmon; the portion felt a bit small for an entrée. Overall, great vibes, fun presentation, and a perfect place to celebrate with a group. Would definitely go back for another occasion.

I was torn between a chicken mole dinner or just good old tacos. I opted for the tacos Al pastor with rice and beans. I have had Al pastor at many, many places, and it's been interesting to see people's takes on the recipes. These were, hands down, the best I've had anywhere. The meat was charred nicely, yet tender. The marinade/sauce had the perfect balance between the sweetness of the pineapple and the counterbalance of the lime, cilantro, and onion. I was so proud of my selection, that I ordered some to-go for my daughter to try. I also had a delicious strawberry margarita and finished off with a tres leches dessert. Everything was superb! I'll be back for that mole someday, and will also try their Taco Tuesday.
