I've been a customer since they were in a converted gas station across from Braum's and usually get the excellent tacos. Decided to try the Pork Colorado, ( 'cause it is hard to find a good one anywhere). AMAZING. Don Ciro's is a fantastic addition to Shawnee. Rather than serving Tex-Mex (which I love), Don Ciro's is a legit taqueria. The tacos are served on small, soft tortillas with a minimal topping of onions and cilantro. The al pastor is delicious, featuring flavorful hunks of marinated pork. The carne asada is made with quality steak that they cook through without drying out. The lengua has that rich flavor and unique texture that only comes with tongue. The gorditas are tasty as well, and have almost nothing in common with the Taco Bell product of the same name. They are more similar to arepas, fried thick tortillas stuffed with a variety of fillings. The rajas is a spicy pepper filling with a beautiful depth of flavor. Chicharon verde is a stew-like filling made from pork skins and tomatillos. The skin isn't crunchy, so the texture may be off-putting to some, but I didn't mind and I really enjoyed the unusual, earthy flavor. Picadillo is almost like a Mexican ground beef hash. It was the closest to a traditional Tex-Mex taco filling and probably my least favorite of the three, though still good. On another visit I tried the chilaquiles and the guacamole dip. The guac was zesty and fresh. The chilaquiles were new to me, but I really enjoyed the way the tortillas strips soaked up the flavor from the sauce and most things go better with a few well-prepared eggs. The location is small, but clean and the service is friendly and quick. I look forward to many return visits. read more

I have passed this little restaurant for years and have never stopped. I have friends that rave about it, but I always go to the other Mexican restaurant in town. Today, I took my family to Don Ciro's after my youngest son told me that his little friend's family went there every Sunday. We came in with a party of 5 and immediately sat down. There are only about 10 tables in the joint. They serve your normal soda choices along with water, sweet tea, and unsweetened tea. We all ordered something different, my son had the Chicken Nachos, my wife and other son had enchiladas with cheese sauce, and I had a mixture of tomatoes, chicken, jalapeño peppers, onions and rice and beans that was called Guisado Entomatado. The food had an awesome flavor and was a lot more authentic tasting than your normal Tex-Mex restaurant. Service was great, my drink never went empty. White Cheese Queso was extra and was really really good, the salsa tasted different than most, but was really good. I have been back about 3 times since. I really like this little restaurant and will be swinging by several more times in the near future. read more

OK so I am a huge taco fan. I was in town for a concert from Texas where I can find taco joints everywhere. Found this on Yelp and thought I would give it a try. Had the carne asada and al pastor tacos and these are the real deal. Double corn tortillas, cilantro and lime. Red and green sauce was terrific. As a daughter of a Mexican restaurant owner, i went with high expectations for this place. I heard it was one of the best Mexican restaurants in Shawnee. We ordered tortillas to eat with our cheese sauce and the tortillas are from a basic grocery store just warmed up. At our restaurant the tortillas are made in front of you. Basic cheese sauce. I ordered horchata and it's basically the packs u can buy from the grocery store as well. It was the worst horchata I ever tasted. Then I ordered 4 tacos of carne asada, super excited to try them because those are my favorite. I get tacos with some basic nasty meat and the tortilla is hard as rock. I ate 1 taco out of the 4 tacos with double tortilla. I was expecting the best quality of meat just as we have at our own restaurant. Want Mexican food? Go to Hidalgo's Mexican Restaurant in Edmond. Don Ciro's is one of our favorite establishments in Shawnee. We are always greeted warmly and they remember our beverage order and that guacamole is a must! Sometimes we don't even have to tell them our order because they remember that too! When we don't bring all 5 of us they ask to make sure everything is ok! Shawnee's lone taco truck has taken to the indoors and re-invented itself as the fully staffed, sit down Don Ciro's! Unlike the ubiquitous taco trucks lining every corner of Oklahoma City's 23rd Street, Shawnee had but one lone truck - Don Ciro's, which provided authentic Mexican food for some time. They have since relocated to a small 8 seat restaurant on Harrison and offer all the goodness of a taco truck with great service. Much like an authentic taco truck you can sample tacos of all types; lengua, carne asada and an assortment of other authentic dishes and drinks such as Horchata. The service is outstanding and drinks and refills are abundant and quick. The food is outstanding and definitely more authentic than your average Tex Mex place... although they are trying to lure the locals in with their almost insulting dish entitled the "Gringo Especial," which consists of a few tacos, beans and rice which will be more palatable and familiar to the unadventurous locals. Overall a very enjoyable experience and a bit more authentic than most of Shawnee's other Tex Mex places. Another surefire sign of its authenticity was evidenced by the sheer numbers of Hispanics that come to this location. I speak passable Spanish so its a bonus to be able to brush up on my skills while enjoying a few tacos and beer. Its not uncomfortably authentic so the non Spanish speaker will feel at home and nor did I see any of the very traditional Mexican dishes like grilled cactus or Mexican caviar (ant eggs) so I highly recommend this when in Shawnee. Stopped in for lunch for the first time. I have never had salsa served hot, only to find out this is the traditional way to serve salsa. My wife had chicken enchiladas and they were made with all white meat chicken. I had the beef enchiladas, one with green sauce and the other with cheese sauce. The food was very fresh, tasty and plentiful. Excellent green sauce. The small place was very clean and the prices for lunch were cheaper than going to McDonalds. I grew up in SW Texas and Southern New Mexico, I love this place, it is the most authentic, in my opinion, in Shawnee. If you want a Tex Mex don't go here. If you want the real deal then it is the best all the way down to the warm served salsa. Very good. read more

Hidden gem in Shawnee! We spent this night in Shawnee during our cross-country trip and stumbled upon this place after looking at both Yelp and TripAdvisor. It's easy to drive past as the building is very small, but the food and level of service were both amazing. They also have a drive thru too which seemed to have a steady flow of traffic while we ate. When we arrived we were 1 of 2 tables eating, but as we were leaving there was only 1 table available. I tried the carne asada plate and my husband got 3 different types of tacos. Total came to less than $20 with drinks as well. If we pass by here again we will be back! read more

I drove about 20 miles from my parent's house to try Don Cira's based on the Yelp rating of 4.5 stars. We usually opt for Abuelita Rosa's (which is much closer) but decided to try something new. Meh. New is overrated. Their a/c was broken, but we weren't going to walk away, even though it was sauna-like. After all we traveled farther just to try it. The ice tea was good, but salsa is soupy and chips just mediocre. The lunch specials are super cheap. We ordered cheese enchiladas and street tacos. They don't have chile con carne, which was a tad disappointing. I am sure the salsa Verde would have been fine, but my dad opted for dry enchiladas. My street tacos were OK, but they were very small... think portion size for Weight Watchers. (Now I know why my entrée was only $4.59.) The pinto beans were good, and so was the rice. A nice gal came around and refilled my dad's ice tea. But I wanted mine to-go, so I went out to my vehicle and got the "venti" plastic cup from my ice coffee this morning trying to be environmentally conscientious. I then tabbed out with my empty cup in hand, and there was a mysterious one dollar up-charge. I asked what it was for, and was told it was for my tea refill. ? The cashier then explained he charged me because my plastic cup is a lot bigger than his styrofoam to-go cup... so I declined the refill. This same refill would have been free if I had taken his 20 oz Styrofoam cup... my cup (that would've saved him about 25 cents on the transaction) was 26 oz... I know, not a huge deal. What sucks is how surprised he looked that I actually noticed the price increase. I take it most people pay him whatever amount he asks for, if it adds up or not. read more

I've been to Mexico a few times. This food is totally authentic. They appeal to Americans with all the tex mex qualities, but so much fidelity in the food. The place thrives on local regulars. Go there enough and they'll learn who you are, and what your favorite thing to order is. You know this place is good because of their story. I remember going to their taco truck when they would park on MacArthur during the weekends. When I was in college, I loved going there and getting whatever was on special. *this review is based on one takeout experience. After driving past this little shack about a million times, I decided to satisfy my Mexican food craving since Abuelita's has been disappointing lately. I walked in and ordered the chicken flautas and queso, screaming over the giant fan that kept customers cool while they sat at one of about 10 tables. That didn't bother me, I thought it added to the hole-in-the-wall charm of the place. Within 5 minutes they had my piping hot order ready. I may have sped on the way home, the smell of fresh flautas is no joke! Turns out the taste lives up to the smell. They were everything I expected a flauta to be. Crispy, crunchy, a little greasy, and packed with flavor. Paired with the authentic queso, it was the perfect lunch before an afternoon nap. I have to say I wasn't impressed by the salsa. It didn't have cilantro in it, and it was warm. I know that salsa opinions vary as widely as salsa recipes themselves, but my personal opinion is that salsa should be cold. I can't wait to go back and try the tacos, since it is a taco stand. read more
