Let me start with how sticky and gross the bathroom was! We sat for a good 7 minutes before anyone took our drink order! This was right at 12:15! They were not busy. The wait staff did not seem to care, even brought me my plate, and when I acknowledged it was wrong and had stuck my fork in it he took it and brought it to the right table. Needless to say I was appalled! We knew it would be disastrous when no one took our drink order timely and it was slow, but never in a million. Oh and I had to ask for silverware and napkins! maybe I expect to much! terrible experience! read more

Wayyyyy overpriced for the quality, serving sizes, service, and atmosphere. $120 for 3 adults and a child is INSANE. We had a group of 6 which was too tough for our clearly new server. We really tried to give grace but were absolutely worn out by the end of our meal with all that went wrong. There were also a few birthdays the night we went, and wow their celebration is over the top. The shots song was blasting on repeat what seemed like non-stop (4times during our meal). To call this place "mexican food" is an insult to an entire country and culture of people. This is the worst food I've had in my entire life. The salsa was bland and the spicy salsa was the regular salsa with Tabasco sauce and vinegar added. The queso tasted just like cheap canned cheese and cost 11$ no flavor whatsoever. We had 3 entrees and 3 drinks. There were no spices. No fresh lime or herbs. Barely enough sour cream to register it being there. A nacho plate that was 80% congealed cheese(not even the queso) A chicken quesadilla that was just shredded cheese and unseasoned chicken. A chicken burrito. Once again just massive amounts of cheese and unseasoned meat. Side of refried beans that were watery and tasteless. Same with the rice. Did I mention the price?? 75$ for those 4 things?! I ordered the enchiladas and tamale combo. When my plate came out it looked like a lump of melted cheese and oily Mexican rice. I am 73, and have been eating Mexican (Tex-Mex) food since I was 10. I thought Taco Bell was great back then in Alabama. I've lived in the Dallas area for 45 years, and have eaten Mexican food everywhere from Texas to California, and everywhere in between. And, yes....Mexico. I've had every dish you could name, and everything from bad to great. I was in Ruston for a football game, and although the online reviews were spotty, decided to give Don Chuy a try. Big mistake. Out of the hundreds of Mexican restaurants in which I have dined in the last 63 years, Don Chuy is hands-down the absolute worst. Big portions of totally tasteless food. Gristle in the chicken dish. A totally miserable experience. I truly do not understand how this place is in business. read more

We Enjoy Don Chuy's in Ruston! Yes I could have posted a review way back when they opened in Sept 2021. I personally DISLIKE one timer reviews on places! I am one that I don't let one bad experience at a restaurant stop me from coming in again to make sure that it wasn't just a off day/fluke. I will say that the first time my family and I went to eat it was very good food! Our second time was a little disappointing for one member because theirs did not have anything other that just the meat with no seasoning or vegetables like the item was described. The second visit was maybe two weeks after our first visit so everything was still NEW to a lot of the workers. That has not stopped us yet! The waiters have always been very pleasant and attentive. We have been numerous times and usually have to carry food home because of the portions we have received have been way more than expected. I am a more "TO EACH THEIR OWN" when it comes to places to eat or buy products from. There will always be a review that is not so pleasant but I make my on decisions. No one review will be the deciding factor whether or not a place would be worth going to eat or buy products. Yes I have tried the other Tex-Mex style restaurants in Ruston and I can personally say that I would prefer Don Chuy's over all of the others in the Ruston area. So if you prefer another that is your personal choice! Also just a note to others! Our family decided to eat at this new restaurant on recommendation of friends who had eaten at another location. I would give them a 2 overall. The appearance was great and the mood music. The manager had to come over to finish up our service because the waiter disappeared! The chicken was over done, tasted old in both the chimichanga and burritos! The salsa and cheese dip had no zing but the chips were fresh and warm. For the prices of everything I expected more! Back to El Jarritos for us. read more

Hands down the best Mexican bar and grill in Ruston definitely beats all the El Jars without a doubt. Servers were as sweet as they could be food came out fast and tasted so good.
