I can say I would not recommend this place to anyone. The tasteless food was just horrible and expecting that rice and beans came with the Enchiladas. My coworker said he I didn't miss much as the rice had no taste and the beans had salt in them. It's just not a place to go for Mexican or TexMex. We ordered nachos, chicken quesadillas and enchiladas. Everything was so yummy. My daughter ordered the bowl and the bowls are really yummy. The cheese enchiladas were so yummy. Ummm. While traveling we decided to stop for the night and saw this incredibly busy Mexican restaurant. We got even more excited by the lavish descriptions of the menu selections, enough to make your mouth water in eager anticipation. We should never have let our hopes and expectations steep so high. We have tasted some delectable Mexican, Latin, South American, Caribbean, and Hispanic foods from some exceptional places. We have also been extremely disappointed when the cuisine didn't stand up to all the hype. This was one of those negative experiences. Speaking of experiences- walking in to the restaurant, greeted by the hostess and seeing the wall to wall occupation of the restaurant tables didn't quite match the overall dry level of service rendered to us. The guests were nice. Restaurant staff, not so much, mostly indifferent as if they'd rather be anywhere else but there and ... how dare I tell them good evening. We decided on carry out, and ordering was an interesting game of "guess what I'm saying," which for the life of me, I don't understand how someone can't understand my perfect enunciation and must pass me off to someone who may. Anyway, once I headed to the back hallway (as I was directed) to the carry out area, I told them my name and a nice young lady kindly pointed to my bags of culinary glory. Then she religiously handed me a receipt to sign and disappeared into the night. I left her a tip anyway because I totally understood my lack of importance in that moment and graciously fended off eager fingers of another guest who judiciously attempted to claim my family dinner. She looked truly offended when I told her, "oh, that's me," as I reached for the bags. I mean, my name was clearly on the receipt, how could you mess that one up, Jennifer? So... I quickly made my exit, returned to our hotel and handed out the platters to the family. Once we began eating it became evident. We were completely, sadly, and utterly duped. A horrifying way to discover what burnt meat tastes like, I actually forced myself to finish most of my meal because the exorbitant and overly zealous pricing compelled me to. After rifling with my fork through scorched peppers and onions, dry and brittle chicken, beef that was actually the same beef you find in a stew, and plump jumbo shrimp that looked appetizing however tasted like they made a quick run to the freezer section of the Walmart on the other side of the freeway to re-up their rubberized seafood stash. The Mexican rice was just chicken broth flavored Uncle Ben's, and the highlight of the entire meal was the refried beans- rather delicious but more than likely came from a brand-named can. My family didn't finish any of our $20- $24 dinners and it left a sour taste in my mouth, literally, from burnt tasting meats and veggies. They actually have the nerve to offer a Tomahawk steak for $110. I would much rather smoke it myself. That way I know I won't be disappointed. My advice? Don't bother. There are far better ways to spend your money, and if you are truly bent on trying this place out- don't set high expectations and make sure to drink a few margaritas first. That way you won't notice you're being bamboozled. read more

I used to love El Jarritos in both Monroe and West Monroe. I since moved out of town so on a trip back to visit when a girlfriend suggested we meet up at their Ruston location to visit I was stoked. I can't remember the last time I had such a negative experience. It took a very long time to order drinks, then after that, we literally thought we weren't going to be offered food because of the awkwardly long time it took for our server to come back. I asked for a cucumber Margarita that was served in a super thin and light plastic goblet. Like I mean, something you would expect to be in a child's play set rather than a drink to actually come in. Well, it split and the replacement I asked for never came. By the time our food came, our drinks were empty - we didn't get refills to eat with :( I don't know what in the world was happening here that night but I am so super disappointed. read more

I wasn't expected authentic food but also wasn't expecting very poor quality. The fajita bravos was close to $16 but used a pre-made fajita mix with dry chicken & steak and I'm pretty sure that the tiny pieces of so called shrimp were from China. It was bland, greasy, and by far not worth the $$$. The food was tasteless and gritty. Never again will I waste money here. Why can't these places hire a cook that has taste buds? I have attended Tech for nearly 10 years, between two degrees and a major change. The only thing that has remained as constant as the sun coming up in the right direction, is El Jarrito's (not the T, not a D) I have been here more times that I care to admit, and the wait staff at the California location are amazing people. They recognize my family every time and know exactly what I intend to order. I have had nearly every menu item at least once! They are amazing. My personal recommendation is the Los Tres Paisas (the three amigos) (pronounced Pie-Eeee-Sah's). It includes a great sample of their staple items, including my favorites: their Tamales and their Chile Rellenos. If you want something more traditional, try their shrimp fajitas. Either way, great food, perfect service, and a real earthy atmosphere. This ain't the Ritz, its just good food. P.S.: Tip your Waiter/Waitress. They work hard, tip hard. read more
