First time at Don Chon and WOW! The food was AMAZING! We ordered the chilaquiles rojos, huevos rancheros, and El Jefe waffles, and everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. Honestly, the food alone made the 40-minute wait worth it! The service was attentive and friendly, which made the experience even better. My only suggestion would be for first-time visitors: please make the clipboard/sign-in area more visible! I actually lost my place twice because I didn't realize I needed to write my name down to hold my spot. A bigger sign or more visible clipboard would definitely help. The only downside is the wait. It can get pretty long, especially if you're dining in. Next time, I might do takeout to avoid the wait--but I will definitely be back! Fresh, tasty, great portions, and delicious Mexican food. We have been coming to Don Chon for a while now, and the food is always great! Everything comes out fresh and in a timely manner, and we always leave satisfied. There can sometimes be a bit of a wait to be seated, but honestly, that just tells you how popular this place is and the food is definitely worth the wait. The service is, for the most part, always good, but we especially love when Diana is our server! She's amazing and always makes our visits a 10/10. She pretty much knows our usual order by now (although I'm usually the one changing things up ), and she's always happy to help and accommodate any changes or special requests. She's friendly, attentive, and makes us feel taken care of every time. We have had one not so great experience with another server in the past, but whenever Diana is there, we know we're going to have a great experience. This time was dine in. The hostess was nice. We got our order in. But this took some time to get our order fully. Now Im factoring in the wait took about 45min. That fine we were a large group. They weren't too packed after we sat so. It was a bit discouraging that 6 out of the 7 orders placed came out and had to remind them. I got what I normally get which was the menudo. I got it with pata this time. This time around it was ok. There was not the same amount they usually put in the to go orders. The broth felt a little watered than normal thus lacking that deep flavor. Still good but probably one of the not so good times. Also tried the guac n salsa n chips. All were really good. This location of Don Chon is a little hood, next to a liquor store where older men hang out. So please be safe however inside it's a small, cute, safe, and has a ramp entrance. We went on a random Monday, there was parking on the street about 3-4 cars can park. Once inside there are about 8-10 tables from what I can remember, when we got there half of them were occupied. We were able to self seat and as our brunch went on the fuller the restaurant got. If I had to guess I would say plant to wait for a table on the weekend. There were a lot of families, the food was pretty amazing ! We got chilaquiles divorciados, the green ones were much yummier than the red ones, we did have a few chips that were a little too hard, the asada on them tasted amazing. We got the menudo of course(its in the restaurant name)we found it to be very tasty, not too fatty not too healthy, they served it with all the appropriate sides including tortillas hechas a mano. We got a child's meal as well which included one of the most delicious perfectly made waffle. We did get cafe de olla which was not extremely sweet not bitter. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the matchata, its supposed to be matcha & horchata. I am a matcha lover but found it too grainy, and bitter, & didn't taste like horchata at all,, it was topped with whip cream and sprinkles as well which I wasn't a fan of. They had other cool items on their menu that we didn't get to taste like a coffee with mazapán if anyone tastes it let me know. It was very delicious where you can adjust to your taste by adding onion, cilantro, oregano, chile de Arbol and salt if needed. They have 2 options a small or large. My cafe de olla was perfect in flavor, you can adjust to your taste, by adding half and half or any more sugar. Feels like a neigborhood staple Get there too late on the weekends for breakfast and you will have to wait outside. We tried the Cafe De Olla both hot and iced. A must try...The balance ! The balance between the sugar and cinnamon is excellence. The mulitas (not featured) are the best along with the Blanco Menudo. Very generous portions of everything. I wanted to like this spot I heard and read great reviews, but I was very disappointed. I ordered the menudo and an iced cafe de olla. The menudo tasted fresh, but lacked any flavor I had to add so much salt to it. The broth/ caldo part tasted like water, and you can tell the broth was not cooked alongside the meat, which made it bland. The service was probably the worst part, I waited an extremely long time to get some help, and when someone finally came to greet me they directed me to go back outside for pick-up. Ok, my mistake first time here I missed the sign that says pick up outside. But what bothered me the most was that my food was ready and sitting outside in plastic bags. They had all the togo orders in bags on a table for anyone to touch or open and no one there to watch it. I feel like this isn't sanitary at all. We visited this restaurant on a Friday morning, which was relatively quiet. However, the waiters were quite forgetful. I had to ask for water more than twice, and they seemed disorganized and not very attentive to our needs. Now the food looks great in pictures , however that's ALSO MISSED! we ordered several things and besides the burrito , everything was MID, not much flavor , syrup was Almost frozen , didn't even know syrup can freeze , coffee was very unflavored and boring , but looks great !!! My boyfriend and I visited for the first time because he had been driving by this place for a while and was really hyped to finally try it. The food was okay ; good, but not the kind of "WOW, I need this again!" experience we were hoping for. The restaurant itself was clean, which was definitely a plus. There is a small sign that says "Wait Here," which I honestly didn't notice, so that part was on us. However, the way we were greeted could have been much more polite. She made a face and told us to "wait over there," which immediately made us feel unwelcome. While ordering, she also seemed bothered whenever we asked for something, and it took over five minutes before we were actually able to place our order. This morning my husband had the menudo. It was horrible, very chewy, no flavor and cut in huge pieces which was difficult to chew. Waffles were delicious. Potatoes I personally felt they should have onions and bell peppers other wise they were still delicious just a bit plain.
