I went there tonight craving a Happy Hour taco special that I've had there before. The bartender told me there was no Happy Hour Menu tonight (it was like 5:15 on a Wednesday). So I ordered 4 tacos, cost 21 bucks. I just wanted a snack. Total check 40 bucks Plus tip, for 4 little tacos, a Diet Coke, and one Happy Hour Coctail. A local favorite for Mexican food. Better than La Carreta. Came here a couple times with coworkers and now finally brought my hubby. We love their salsa bar. Ordered one steak and one shrimp fajita. Both were very flavorful and filling. Came early enough to try their Happy Hour giant margaritas. The pineapple margarita is delicious. Food/seasoning was good. They serve bean dip with their chips for those who care. The salsa bar was decent for those with a mild, spicy, or tart palate. Lunchtime (12:45 on a Monday) wasn't busy at all, except for filled window seating. Music was at a proper level, we were able to hear our server unlike other restaurants. This was my first time going to Don Chentes. I have to say not impressed by the food. The staff was very nice, we were seated quickly, the waiter brought us our drinks and food fast. The restaurant a good temperature and well decorated, the place was busy and everyone was smiling. Now let's get on to what made it three stars, the cheese dip was soo good, but kinda cold. My sister ordered a chicken taco and I ordered a quesadilla, I would say the main thing this restaurant is missing is flavor. There was no form of spice, the rice tasted like just substance, no flavor. Even the cheese in the quesadilla was just plain, no flavor, no peppers, nothing. The taco could have used more spice as well. So overall, the restaurant was alright, but it could be great if they had flavor. It tasted like the Mexican version of coleslaw, flavorless. Loud, messy and understaffed. Salsa bar at 6pm on Monday looked like it had not been restocked or cleaned for hours and hours. Waiter was also the bartender. All waiters were making their own drinks. No bartender on staff. Why keep opening places with such staffing shortages? House margarita at $9.99 was 20 oz at least, meaning the prescribed amount of tequila was terribly watered down. And LOUD. The food and drinks were very good. The staff were friendly and helpful, but the kitchen was slammed so items came out slowly. Once we got the chunky guacamole, it was huge and the best guacamole outside of home made that we have had. The cheese dip is not a typical restaurant dip. We've been here many times and it's always good. I've repeatedly gotten something that exceeded my expectations. My favorite is the Don Chicken, garlic buttered shrimp over a chicken breast with peppers zucchini onions and mushrooms. Hit it with hot sauce. The sizzling enchiladas are fantastic and the rice gets crispy on the fajita skillet. I haven't had it yet but I want the fajitas. I went with a friend who got them and they looked amazing. I also haven't had the chile verde here yet. But I always want to. One issue is the salsa bar. It's placed in a way that you can't get to the salsas without making a mess. It's the wrong kind of cart and in a bad position. You'll need extra napkins. read more

Where do I start? What in the white people, no seasonings, bland A mess was that?!?!? For real! This isn't Mexican, nor is it even Tex Mex. Honestly I don't know what it was! My husband ordered a shredded beef burrito (barf) it was like someone made some unseasoned slow cooked pot roast without any of the veggies and slapped it in tortilla and called it a burrito. I had a steak fajita quesadilla and it was even flavorless and sad. The meat tasted like it wasn't seasoned nor even cooked with the peppers and onions. Then just slapped into a tortilla with a sprinkle of cheese and they called it a quesadilla. It was difficult to order because a lot of the menu had weird mix-ins like mushrooms where they don't belong. Please if you're looking for Mexican food RUN ELSEWHERE!!! Second time here. Had the El Gran Burrito first time (excellent) and the Tres Carne Fajitas (shrimp, skirt steak, chicken) this time. Also ordered the Blackberry Margarita as a splurge and it was yummy but expensive. They have a salsa bar here (refried bean dip comes with chips at the table). I like the salsa bar ..especially the spicy avocado salsa. I wish instead of small cups they had a small dish though. The fajitas were very good with about 6 large shrimp and high quality skirt steak and chicken. Ample serving size ...I ended up taking some home which rarely happens. All the side items...refried beans , pico , rice are very good. We got a Tres Leches to split for dessert. It's was tasty but not quite as delicious as our favorite version at Chuy's. The only downer for me here is the modem Latino music which is that annoying blend of Shakira meets Rap meets EDM . Would much prefer the more traditional Mariachi or at least Tejano music to set the mood. Chente's is definitely a step above most Mexican chain restaurants. read more

I really want to give this place a higher score, but unfortunately I can not. This is the second time we have been here, but the first time eating. The first time we went here we waited for about 8 minutes at the host stand with no one greeting us so we left. This second time we also had to wait a little bit at the stand before being greeted. It is absolutely beautiful in the inside. Very modern and upbeat. The service was okay. Not bad but not great. We were not informed there was a salsa bar. Once our food came we both had different experiences. Mine was warm but not flavorful. The other plate had a mix of burning hot chicken and very cold chicken. Both of our forks were dirty. We ended up scrapping the junk off of the fork to eat since our waiter didn't check up on us after getting our meal. I hope it improves in the future. read more

I would love to give 5 but a few things were not quite on par. We made reservations for 6pm. We arrived and told the hostess and she grabbed menus to take us to the table when I guess the manager (bald guy) starting rattling off Spanish to her and walked away she put the menus down and told us it would be 10-15 minutes. Ok, that was the waiting time for everyone. And he didn't even address us just walked away. Kind of rude. We got our table at 6:15! The service was very slow from that point on. The server was nice just slow. We had run out of chip 10 minutes before she brought more. It was 15 minutes before she took our order. The food was very good, the salsa bar was nice, but they don't tell you about it. The portions were large. The margarita was a little pricey and way under on the tequila. I couldn't taste any tequila. It tasted like a juice rather than a drink. All that said I will go back but not order a margarita and I hope the bald manager is a little more pleasant. Several times the hostess would go to do something and he would sternly talk to them in Spanish and walk off. read more

We went on cinco de mayo. It was fair but the service was horrible. The waitress was rude and nasty. She said they needed the table and people were still eating. We just paid the bill. I want to preface this by saying I think they could have something really great here with a few tweaks. The decor is awesome. There is a lot to choose from on the menu, with different offerings than everywhere else, but still familiar favorites. Lots of margaritas to choose from. The skinny one tastes like straight lime juice so that one needs some work. The hostesses weren't friendly. There seemed to be a lot of people working, yet the service was still terrible. We didn't see our server anywhere for probably 20 minutes. Things we ordered our meals without, came with those things, but the server was nowhere to be found for several minutes after someone else delivered our food. Overall I really want to like this place and I hope they can fix things. I think the staff needs some training, the drinks maybe need some work, and it will be great. read more
