We found this Mexican food place on the way to another restaurant, and we decided to try this place. We were seated and drink orders taken. Chips and salsa were served and delicious. We ordered fajitas burritos with queso, Mexican shrimp cocktail, and pozole. Everything was served and delicious as well. Our wait staff came by a few times to check on us. Went back to Don Chano for lunch and took two people with me. Two of us had the combo fajitas and one had the cheese enchiladas. Everyone said the food was great and plentiful. The service was top notch and friendly. The restaurant was clean and cig smoke free. My friend picked up the tab and forgot to leave a tip. Sorry for that, we will drop by tomorrow and leave a tip. We stayed in Alverado for a week and this mexican food was so good we ate here twice. Service was great, portions were big, we had left overs both times. Ate here a few years back and remembered it was really good. Passing through and decided to eat here. Was still as good as remembered. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Chips that came before meal were nice and warm. They leave a pitcher of salsa at the table which is nice if like a lot of salsa. Food came out hot and has great flavor. I have only ever had take out from Don Chanos, so maybe I am missing something. The food is very bland and under seasoned. It is the school cafeteria version of Mexican food. The homemade salsa is tomato sauce with a tiny bit of onion, peppers and cilantro and the fajitas were so dry they were stiff. Maybe this is what a small town finds acceptable but I would rather cook fajitas at home or have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich than spend more money here. read more

Was in the area and stopped by, the waitress was very nice and told us it be a couple of minutes because they making the chips. Eventually the chips come and we order the queso. It was very big and tasted good. I ordered the Antonio plate, which I believe was 2 tamales, a cheese enchilada and 2 hard tacos. It was a ton of food for like $10. I got the asada and al pastor. These babies were on regular tortillas! I was for sure thinking they would be little like Chinese dumpling wrappers! They were moderately full too. Noice. Had a quick lunch to go, had a beef fajita burrito for under 6 bucks. It was a a huge beef fajita burrito with rice, beans, lettuce, tomato, pico de Gallo, and guacamole. Came with a small container of home made green salsa, a big bag of warm tortilla chips and 6 ounces of their house salsa. All sounds great..... except: The meat not marinated The beans not seasoned The pico de gallo has too much onions The burrito tortilla was cold And what can kill this business: The house salsa is straight out of a can. The proof: Salsa that clearly sticks to the side of the plastic cup, and absolutely no chunks, it's basically Pace salsa without the chunks. This is a new restaurant, and what I like to do is to come back in a couple of months to see if they have fixed the problems. You can raise the price for a buck or two and if tastes good, people will buy it. read more

By far the worst service I received in a long time. We walked into the store at 1355 hours and ordered our food shortly after sitting down. We had to sit and wait over an hour for the food, that was mediocre at best. While we waited for the food our drinks sat empty for nearly 30 minutes and the waitress only came by the table once. I eat here regularly, and have done so for the last 6 years. The owners, Javier and Jenny, are very nice, and very hospitable. The food is consistently good, and you can always expect the same taste on items from visit to visit. I love their burritos rancheros appetizer. I eat it often for lunch! I especially love the Fajitas Monterrey, and it never disappoints. The service is often slow, and they don't do a great job of pre-bussing, but the food is worth the wait, and if you ask them to remove your plate, they do so with a smile. Only reason for one star is the salsa is pretty good and the tortillas were good. Everything else was mediocre at best. The carne asada came with french fries on top of it. The plate was stolen from salt grass steakhouse. They fajitas didn't even have salt for seasoning. The refried beans were burnt. The sour cream looked like milk. The table next to us was a family with three children. Arrived after my group of three. Got served before is and received their check before us. After waiting about fifteen minutes we ended up having to wave the waitress down to get the check. Would not recommend. read more

Used to eat here all of them time and was always great. Today will probably be my last called in a order and we come to pick it up and they said they never received it. He then offers us margaritas as we wait and the glasses have black stuff stuck all over them and floating in the drinks. After sitting at our table for 10 minutes I finally got up & got our own menus. Then 5 min later 1 of the waitresses looked our way & gave us the "Be right there" finger. Yet another 5 min goes by then that same lady tells the other waiter to come help us. He walks over & I offer to write down our order for him if he'd just give me pen & paper. His response is, "I thought she was taking care of yall." I let him know nobody has been over to speak to us or anything & that I had to get our menus for us. "What can I get yall?", is all we get from him. No apology of any sort. The restaurant wasn't packed. There should have been no problem taking care of customers. Had to get up & request drink refills. When those came, u would expect them to acknowledge & handle empty chip basket, but no such luck. Food came out in a reasonable amount of time. It was actually very good. Had to get up & ask for check 10 minutes after we had already asked for it. So needless to say we will NOT be back. This was our 1st & last visit here. The 1 hour & 15 minutes that we spent there was enough to last a lifetime. read more
