For starters, this is my kind of establishment. Zero pretension, no room for BS, and lots of excellent food that caters to the niche community that seeks it out. It is mainly a store that happens to sell various meats, along with limited groceries, and even cowboy hats (#1) with a couple of picnic tables for formality. The carnitas are indeed the real deal, with all the piggy parts lined up by the pound. There is also chicharron strips, orejas in slices, and breakfast options from potatoes and eggs to carne guisada in their hot display. Their enchiladas and gorditas are excellent and I was pleasantly surprised by the barbacoa, which was chock full of flavor. The staff working there typically caters to a Spanish-speaking crowd, so if one is not ready to make an attempt en español, then be prepared to point at some photos (#2) or bring some friends who can translate. It came with three tacos, sides of rice and beans, and diced raw onions, cilantro, grilled onions, and a grilled jalapeño for toppings. The second I opened my box, I knew it was going to be good. The aroma of warm corn tortillas- REAL ones filled my nose, along with all the right combinations of flavors. The rice was fluffy and soft. Beans were mixed well, cooked fresh in the true Mexican style. Pastor was drool-worthy. I also drank an horchata, it was a good standard horchata. The interior is bright, clean, and chic. This is a good sit-down casual spot. I wouldn't expect food to come out fast-food quick as everything is made fresh, but it did not take an extensive amount of time either. I came in on weekday for lunch, and waited about 10 min or so after ordering. They also have a salsa bar! The salsa verde and pico de gallo are very mild if you are spice shy.
