The other red snapper dish with onions & tomatoes came out. I asked them to correct it to be what I ordered. Our waitress comes back out with the same wrong plate relaying a message from the manager: 'this is what you ordered so this is what you get.' But I didnt order that. Sent it back again. She comes back out saying that the manager is making HER pay for it. The manager didn't even come out to speak to us once to rectify the situation. I'm not sure why all the bad reviews, I thought this place was fantastic. This was not our first option to grab food when in the area, but one thing led to another and we feasted at Don Alex. Best alternative decision ever! The restaurant was spacious and clean. The service was not the best, but that is my absolute only complaint about this place. I ordered the1/4 rotisserie chicken, which came out perfectly cooked and seasoned. Ask for a side of that green Aji sauce because that stuff literally tastes good with everything. My group also ordered a plate of loaded fries to share. The fries were glorious, it came loaded with hotdog pieces, drizzled in mayo, ketchup and cheese. Again, I preferred to dip my fries in the green Aji sauce. The fries were good for the first few bites, but then it got a little too overwhelming with all the sauces. I love this place and will definitely return. I highly recommend the rotisserie chicken-- one of the most well cooked Peruvian chicken I've ever had. read more

It took me a year but I have found a true replacement for Pio. Don Alex doesn't look like your standard Peruvian place for pollos a la brasa. It's set up like a neighborhood spot, the music isn't blaring (and I have yet to hear any annoying birthday music!), there are no roasting-rotating chickens facing the sidewalk, and the food is actually cooked to order! The service is good although it seems to be designed for the Spanish speaking clientele... but it wouldn't be an issue for anyone who's ordered from Pio. The menu is larger than many Peruvian spots (and may have a bit more of a Colombian influence) but the quality is great. The jalea is crisp and light with just the right amount of sauce and the chicken here is tender, very flavorful, and truly falling off the bone (isn't that what's "pollo a la brasa" really means?) and the green sauce is not over bearing. Second time I have been coming to this restaurant since quarantine started for my all-time favorite Jalea & Leche de Tigre. The service was fast and attentive, but the food was delicious! I understand that with everything going on, seafood dishes have not been the freshest in Other restaurant, but Here they are delicious and fresh! I have nothing to complain about their seafood. As long as they keep them fresh I will be coming back again for more! Do not go there unless you are ready to be forced to drop %20 for no service. Food is ok, but the waitresses are not interested on providing good service because a %20 will automatically be included in your check whether you liked the service or not. We only saw our waitress when she took our order and when I LOOKED FOR HER to ask for the check. No body ever came ask us if we need anything, we have to keep asking random waitresses from other tables for things that we need while we were eating. I had already plan to tip only %15 because we were basically ignored but I had the surprise that their %20 is already included. A message to the owner: "please remind your non-Peruvians waitresses that they are not doing us a favor" people have no problem paying not just for good food but also for good service. Thanks. My best friend was in the mood for Peruvian food and offered to treat......say no more, I'm in! He knew this place in Queens and I thought "I'm hungry why not local?" It seems like a nice place to take a fine young lady (wink, wink). So we marched in and were quickly seated. We had two beautiful woman serving us or so we thought. At least we had the fried corn to keep us company. Finally we got our drinks and it was time for a little Peruvian dining. When the tostones came out I thought they were delicious. Similar to the way Puerto Rican's make them. I am a fan so I may have eaten 80 precent of them.......90 precent (Its okay! He didn't like them). When my chicken arrived I can tell you I ate 100 precent of that! It was tender and hot. The meat had some flavor to it and it was good. There was a sauce my friend kept using and he made me try. It was spicy but good enough to dip my chicken in. We asked for more and they brought it over. But they didn't mention they charged $4.50 for extra. (Come on). It's a coin toss if I would return on my own. If my friend invited me again I would say yes. But the service has to improve. My wife and I came here almost by accident. We never had Peruvian food so we figured we would try it. We were not disappointed. We both had the fish but prepared completely differently. I had the fried fish and it was was delicious. It was served over a sweet onion salad and the best fries I've had in a long time. My wife had the steamed fish in a wonderful sauce with onions and kasava root. She loved it. The appetizer can be eaten as a meal by itself. It was a cold mixed seafood salad served with an onion salad, sweet potato and giant corn kernels on the cob. If you love lime juice, this is your place. Mediocre Peruvian restaurant in Corona. Ordered the lomo saltado de pollo which was a tad salty and the chicken was over cooked. The 1/4 rotisserie chicken was delicious and perfectly cooked but served with a blah yellow rice. The beans were decent. The sweet plantains were a standout which helped my salty dish go down easier. Service was courteous, if a tad awkward and prices are high for the area but still reasonable. Note that it is cash only yet they display the Visa and MasterCard logos on the menu. Listen if that's poverty, I'm all for it. Not super classy, but the classic South American platter (Colombian spots rock that too). Kim got the breaded chicken breast, fresh but not as well seasoned as it could've been. 'Rents got seafood (Ecuadorians love seafood more than Puerto Ricans, how does that work) -I can never correctly remember the name it's like churras or chupas or...anyway it's mussels on the shell, plenty of meat covered in the oniony-garlicky-lemony relish. They're good but i wasn't in the mood. -and they got lomo salteado de pescado. It's not on the menu. It's the classic peruvian plate but with fish. It is by far one of the most unique flavors I've ever had. It's good. But. I don't think I could do the full plate. This is my mother's favorite place to order (she's Peruvian). I have certain diet needs thus I asked her to order a side of rice for me. She did and they sent fries, she called and the lady on the phone told her she was wrong and that she asked for fries not rice. I don't think so! My mother not wanting to argue decided to hang up because she refused to admit they made an error and were unwilling to fix it. So here I am writing a review instead of having dinner. Trust me sending over a side of rice would have been in your companies best interest. If you enjoy a company who blames the customer for their mistakes instead of being able to admit their mistakes and rectify them this is the place to order from. I also had her order a side of maduros, the box they came in was completely mushed and the bag they were in was soaked in oil. I ate three and found a fry in the missile of the mushed up maduro blob. I came here with some friends and one of whom is Peruvian. I guess he never tried Pio Pio before, another famous Peruvian chain. The restaurant is busy, and space is tight but the staff tries to accommodate large groups, once they even added a folding table to extend the space for our party. The food here is pretty good, the steaks are brought out on a hot plate so the meat stays warm. Their fish choices are delicious. They have menu offerings available for certain days of the week so be mindful when ordering since the staff predominately speaks spanish. The mango juice (with water) was a repeated request for the pint sized group. Only thing probably, would be the unkempt bathroom. Im Peruvian and logically I tried a lot of Peruvian restaurants...this place has a good pollo a la brasa but sadly is not the same case everyday. On a good day you get it juicy,fresh and tender On a bad day it looks like it came out of the microwave,its dry and like it was yesterday's pollo. This place has been around for years and the green spaghetti was awesome back then....I don't know if they have the same chef but the green spaghetti tastes dissapointing now. We stopped in for dinner after the tennis matches in Flushing Meadow Park. We were in the mood for Peruvian chicken, and we got wanted we wanted, and more. The menu is difficult to decipher, but we stuck with the chicken. It come with a bunch of side dishes- decent beans, soggy fries, rice (which I did not try), and a nice small salad. We also ordered sweet plantains. But this was about the chicken. The chicken was very good indeed- very nicely seasoned, and even the white meat was tender and juicy. The portions are quite large (1 whole chicken= 2 portions), but we ate it all!. The plantains were a nice accompaniment. The service was poor- the waiter did not speak a work of English. I noticed that the bar selection was very thin, so I just ordered the house wine, which was ok. The food came almost immediately, but the drink order was very, very slow. Just recently I ordered 12 rotisserie chickens for a party and I let them know I needed it for 2 hours from the time I called when I can pick it up. I was called back 15 minutes later saying the chicken was ready to be picked up when I specifically told them I needed it 2 hours later. Just tonight I called and placed an order for delivery. I live about 6 blocks away and was told it would take 30 minutes. I called back an hour later and was now told that apparently my address was not in there "zone" and therefore they had called the other Don Alex which was in my zone and asked them to deliver to me. Once upon a time a long time ago this place use to be good. My boyfriend has been craving Lomo Saltado and I recommended this place bc I remember it was one of the best thing I had awhile back but that was a long time ago and things have obviously changed. The Steak was dry and chewy and the over all dish was lacking any sauce. There was more onion and white rice then there was steak, fries and sauce. It was so disappointing. The only thing that help this dish was the green sauce and even that wasn't that good, On top of that when I called to place the order for pick up the waitress was joking around and giggling with someone else I had to keep repeating my order.
