As much as I love sit down pizza places, it's sometimes just really nice to go somewhere with cheap…read morebut dependable pizza. This was my first thought when I passed Pizza Mafia. I had likely passed by it before but this is the time I really noticed it was there and made myself stop. Pizza Mafia is a very basic place. They have large slices of pizzas (or you can order a full pizza), hot dogs, and sodas. The place is small and the only seating is in the form of two wood bars on the sides at which you can stand. Neither the limited menu or the lack of furniture should put you off. The pizza is really good and very reasonably priced. I personally ordered two slices and a drink (margherita and one with bell peppers and salami). The slices are clearly off the 20" pizza and can easily make a full meal. I fully admit I actually had to get mine to go and by the time I ate it at the train station it was cold, but the slices were excellent. The margherita wasn't standout, but the they used a nice amount of toppings on the other without overwhelming the crust. The crust was nice and thin without being brittle and the sauce was good. It's not the best pizza I've ever had but it was very good when judged against anything. It was fantastic when compared to other pizzas at its price point. My entire meal cost £4 and to have a third slice would have only cost an additional £1. I don't often eat when I'm in proper Stirling but I'm tempted to drop by Pizza Mafia. Sometimes we just all need a cheap slice... or two, or three.

As Jim Carey once said "I CAN'T LIEEEEEE" and so here goes, the place I wanted to love so much,…read morewhich turned out to be a monumental disappointment and for this reason, I will speak the truth and nothing but the truth. I don't like to blow my own trumpet nor do I like the smell of my own farts, however, I do think I know what an authentic pizza looks like. After all I have eaten literally thousands off them (I am a self confessed pizzaholic). One of the most important things about making a good pizza is having a wood fired oven. It really does add so much flavour to the pizza, so when I heard these guys had the real deal, I was salivating at the prospect of getting my hands on my own slice of Napoli. After paying the tenner or so for my Margherita with peperoni and aubergine I was instantly appalled by the appearance of my pizza. Not very appetising to say the least (please see photie for evidence). First of all it was dusted in polenta, giving it that Dominoes / Papa Johns style texture, my aubergine was cut up in cubes and put on top RAW meaning I had uncooked aubergine (the worst uncooked veggie ever) and it was absolutely swimming in cheese. Why, oh why, oh why, oh why, oh why, does everyone have to over-cheese their pizza, AAArrrrggghhhh!!!! Its so annoying. Anyway, deep breaths, I can do this, stay calm now..........just get to the end of the review and have a wee lie down...... The fact of the matter is, less is actually more, you don't need half a block of cheese to make a pizza taste good. It just adds an extra 500cal to the meal and leaves me bloated as hell that's all. Good quality ingredients and good olive oil, that is what you need. Right, I think you get the picture and I've probably said enough. The reasons there are no photos of pizza on their website should have been a warning. Rant over, buona notte......

Been back again tonight. In addition to all the things I said before…read more They have an outside seating area. They also now have an alcohol lisence. The new menu is a bit more expensive around 9 - 12 for a 12" pizza. The pizza is still as good. They now have a healthy living plus award, which I assume is better than a regular award. And they deliver as far as East Kilbride and Barrhead.

It was one of my best online discoveries (and bonus - you can order on line when you leave town and pick it up as you get off the train). They have a good menu with plenty of veggie choices, a couple of my favourites the Riviera - tomato, mozzarella, black olives, mushroom, pepper and oregano or the simple Basil - tomato, mozzarella, topped with beautiful fresh leaves of basil and black pepper. This one starts at £5.70 for a 12inch pizza, which is pretty good value! You can also add a range of toppings to their wide choices, meaning you can have the perfect pizza. The pizza's are thin, usually with a crisp base however I have had a couple that were a little soggy in the middle. This is probably the one's with wetter toppings. As the bases are so thin, they are not as heavy or filling as a more American style pizza would be. I imagine this is why their smallest size is 12 inches. I find 12 inches is a bit much for one, the large size size is a nice amount between two for a proper dinner. As much as the pizza is brilliant, the sides have much less to rave about. There aren't many on the menu, but personally I wouldn't bother with them again. Not awful but nothing special. They staff are friendly, it's pretty fast service. You can see them making your pizza by hand, and fire it in the proper pizza oven. Think this is why they always have such a lovely crust! If you're in the area I'd definitely advise swinging by.

Stefano's has been open for years upon years and I'm told few who have grown up nearby have yet to try its famous Sloppy Seppy - a strange concoction which manages to be both chilli, hot and tasty. A real treat!
