I booked my appointment over a week ago for 12 on Sunday the 17th. At 11:15 that morning, I received a call saying "they can no longer take me because they are down 2 styalists". I totally understand being short staffed, however getting this news less than 1 hour before my appointment is ridiculous. They did not even offer a solution. I was incredibly upset because this day was extremely important to me and the girl on the phone was not empathetic at all. An instructor Tracey reviewed and kept asking me the services that I requested. I repeated several times /stunned why she seems not have hairstyle expertise in addition student assigned only following her instructions. She did not perform the services requested stood over student watching student washing my hair no idea what She was doing felt aniety belittled and stunned How badly this instructor Tracie lacked professionalism addressing my concerns. Once student placed me in the area hair put towel ok wet hair I proceeded to manager desk with wet hair. Manager told me to wait she had other customers. The service still have no idea what she did on my hair prior to wash. No services requested were done and yes her had no clue except talk down to Me. I took a chair still with wet hair then I approached by school director Ashley Reprimanded how I broke student spirit ? The student had no clue what service to do ! I told Ashley this is not the service requested the teacher had no knowledge of hair services and never treated so unprofessionally. I am stunned a director would speak to me in public in front of the whole salon with students customers/did not speak to me privately. I was then told by manager that I would have hair dried by another student and Had to ask new student assigned to flatten hair As again I detailed services requests repeatedly to teacher director. The student dried hair and and quick straighten. I was told after I paid left students that I would need to come back for all services requested at no charge/no apology !! That next Thursday appt there for 4 hours new student instructor I knew all services Were completed and the instructor advised cutting hair 2 inches I was not happy agreed. After all services completed. I was told by manager that there was no charge. I told the manager that I still wanted to give student tip and that I would back to give cash. I came back manager please forward to student. I stated that I would be back for condition next time. I was told by manager that there would not be a next time that Management made decisions on incident with instructor prior appointment. ??? I was mislead on coming back for the services requested and manager stated prior instructor was in Florida dud not document the Roots lightened blonde over entire head of hair condition flatten iron. I am stunned over this misconduct of instructor Tracie initially and lack of professionalism and ethics of director Ashley. Only manager Kerry is the best ! The airbrush makeup was flawless and made me feel so incredibly beautiful! That was the part I was most nervous about because I wear minimal makeup on a daily basis. I was in and taken to the chair promptly, quick wash and ready to go. Richard commented that my hair had a wave to it and I was like "that's just cause it's up in the bun all day" but no - my hair apparently can get a nice wavy curl to it, Richard recommended styling products and methods, talked me through everything he was doing - the length was chosen between us both and meant to make the most of my thin hair and cut was meant to grow out well. He asked me questions about what I liked and didn't like about my hair and definitely was listening. He also chatted me up in the chair - conversation was easy. He had a great welcoming vibe. Price was solid. I definitely will go back - and like I always say I will try and make this more of a habit. But then again, I know myself well enough to know it might be a full year before I'm getting another haircut. I've had it in a ponytail every day since I had it done and haven't blown it dry since the process damaged it a good deal, and just blew it dry for the first time and noticed the chunk. They offered to extend root as long as I could make it in within 10 days. Was out of town for work and so couldn't make it in within the 10 day limit, although I did contact them the day after the color was done. They said sorry, they'd let their team know my feedback. I should start off by saying that I purchased 2 groupons here (it was an awesome deal that was going on at the time, $8 for $23 worth of shampoo, cut/blowdry). For myself I had scheduled a hair appointment for corrective coloring and a cut. With the other groupon I gave to my sis and she went in for a trim. I have to mention I did read up on Yelp before scheduling an appointment, but I did not make a specified appointment with a particular stylist, nor did my sister. I was able to schedule the appointment on a Sunday afternoon which ended up being a good time because the salon was pretty much empty with the exception of 2 stylists on duty and 1 other customer that came in while we were there. Brief overview of my hair before I walked into the salon: Previously dyed at another salon dark brown w/ thin subtle all over blonde highlights. My virgin hair is pretty much black. What I initially wanted done was a corrective color. I was hoping to keep the colors, if not possibly do a new all-over color. Both stylists agreed that if I had decided to stick with the blonde that it would just turn out brassy. Not pretty at all. As soon as I heard the word brassy I definitely decided to go with their advice, that by starting off w/ a clean slate (flat all over base color) I can always go in and put highlights another time. With this decision I am soo glad I went "back to black," as so I called it at the time. Though the color swap I actually choose can better be described as burgundy dark brown. For quite some time while my hair was in it's newly dyed state it looked really bold, like gothic black. (Actually darker than my natural hair color). It was really growing on me. Funny thing is, when it reflected in the light it looked purple! A sexy deep purple I might add. ;) Talk about fulfilling secret anime [hair] desires. Ok, so that wasn't very brief. (God, when are my reviews ever?) Back to reality... My cut. I specifically asked for the length to be maintained as much as possible, with shorter face framing layers and a few layers at the crown for volume. Her cut was better than I have expected. It was kept long enough to be pulled back in a pony, had a long side bang, and the blowout-- don't get me started, was wow! I would absolutely have Nicole do my hair again, she just did everything the way I wanted, let me repeat, even better than I had expected. Plus she was really friendly. :) Lastly, I have to speak a little about the Redken chemistry treatment that was included during my visit. Omg I loove this treatment, it made my hair so silky soft and literally revived it. I really noticed my hair didn't fall out as much and weeks after the visit here it still maintained that softness. Now I don't know if it was due to the fact that I picked up some new shampoo while I was there, either way it's def. worth just going in for the treatments alone! So to pretty much sum up this first-time exp. at this salon, thumbs up. Don't let the whole negative "strip mall salon rep" taint your thoughts about trying Hair Cuttery out. From my personal experience I would equate this salon just as good, if not better than those higher-end salons (esp. in certain areas, such as prices, customer service). Whatever you guys are doing, keep it up because it's working! :) edit: Forgot to say that although my hair ended up really dark after getting it done, it did lighten up beautifully to a burgundy color. When I was in Cranston not too long ago I was in desperate need of an eyebrow wax. I haven't had a wax in a very long time and the Salon Leader Meghan Cloutier was helpful enough to deal with my overgrown eyebrows. I told her that I wanted to clean them up since I'm trying to grow them out and she did just that. They were still full, but MUCH cleaner and at $10 you can't beat that!
