For all the vintage shops, junk stores and antique malls I have haunted in my brief time on this earth, I have never been to a place like Dolly Python. One half is FULL of vintage clothes (which is cool, though being 5'9" I tend to ignore most vintage, as people were apparently just smaller in the past so things that fit tend to be way too short on me), and the other half is divided into vendor booths full of oddities from the past. Turn here and you're face to face with dead-eyed mannequins; spin around and you're looking at a tableau of taxidermied mice in various attitudes and activities (made me think of the movie "Dinner for Schmucks"). And everything in between. Take your time strolling as mournful old-school country music twangs over the sound system; squint into the back corners of booths to see what strange bits and pieces are tucked under that slanted shelf. There is a huge case of vintage jewelry to ogle; that alone could take an hour if you really got picky about it. Even in the middle of a week day there were a handful of people roaming the aisles in here. Prices were more reasonable than I would have expected for such unusual items. It really upsets me to write this because I have been a frequent customer at DP for years, but unfortunately the customer service rating is a -5. Had a direct interaction with the owner, and not only did she basically accuse me of lying, but to say that she was short with me would be the very least. Tl;dr: cool place, only one attentive and polite person on staff apparently. I've been here a handful of times and it's always pretty amazing the sheer volume of things that are at this location. It's a very interesting place to get lost in for a bit, and I have taken home one or two trinkets. I would say that it feels like management at this store has changed; and the staff has gotten a little, well, rude. Barring one or two individuals, my last experience was not great. Asking a question was met with a rather rude response, and I was blatantly ignored by another member of staff. Thank the lord for the gen z person working there. read more

Part II. Dolly Python Intervention. I hopped in Blanca, my white Honda Civic and headed to this beauty. When I walked in there was an older lab stretched out on the wooden floors. Seemed to be taking the best rest ever! We courted one another and I got on the prowl. I picked up dress after dress. These labeled at a more reasonable price. Dresses for under $100, good quality vintage apparel as well. I took my bunch of dresses and made way for the fitting room. I knew which one I wanted before I stepped in but I was in no rush. I tried on at least a dozen, most really small. What an 8/9 used to be is not at all like it is today lol. None the less, playing dress up was fun. I threw on "my dress" and instantly fell in love. At that point I was done with dress up and it was time to see the other half of the store! Filled with trinkets, knick-knacks, foot covers, arm and neck ties alike, frozen concrete molded into inanimate objects, music disc and anything remotely related to decor and things to put on your body. I had fun exploring this cute resale shop. I left a tip on the customer service. The girls were playful and had excellent CS! I even got some money off. As a forty one year old fitted dress hispanic male shopping with his Mother and Japanese girlfriend. My Mother & I have never been so insulted by having store staff contantly monitor us throughout the store. Never greeted us or smiled as with other clients. Really bad experience. You'd think such a popular VINTAGE shop would be more welcoming. Came here the other day while I was visiting the city. I'm a huge vintage collector. I love vintage fashion and travel around the world looking for vintage thrift shops. I loved the selection here. Minus one star for the prices... being on the high side. OUTSTANDING!!! The ladies in there are so amazingly nice. I came in twice, once to browse and once to try to sell some clothes and shoes. Both times, this short cropped hair blond person with a beautiful smile and spot on style acted like I was the king of the world. She told me they were super busy, as usual, and it would be under 5 minutes for one of them to unlock one of the wonderful jewelry case for me while she feverishly typed in a customers order. Meanwhile, 20 or so customers ambled about looking at all the really amazing and decently priced items. Turns out, the red haired lady, who seemed like she has a big heart as big as Texas and also well styled admitted my low ball offer on an item in a locked case was not quite what that particular dealer could accept at the moment. Oh, well, I'll try again in a few weeks ;-) Then she said that the owner had texted her back and would pass one pair of newer slightly trashed Cole Haan boots. But regardless, they purchased some of my other Vintage style and high-end designer fashions I'd inherited from my Mee-Maw. That place used to be, AND STILL IS, my go-to place to find incredible bargains and clothing when I was at TCU! Absolutely great customer service, especially when I realized I had interrupted the flow of the cash register and all the others waiting to check out. This review is just based of their LP collection. Staff was very nice, there were two dogs roaming loose in the store, thought that was very cool. There were lots of collectibles that I'm sure are very nice, but I was just there for music. They had a large LP section, quite a bit of punk and classic rock. The only problems were the prices....they were in the stratosphere! I had to ask an employee if those were the prices or some sort of tracking code. I wandered in here with hopes of finding some cool old school decor for my new apartment. I came out of here wondering what the hell took me so long to visit this shop. First off, be careful not to pass the store when driving. It's located a couple blocks off 75 and Haskell, and will sneak up on your left. There is little parking in front of the store, so your best bet is to park to the right of it. Don't be surprised if you get a headache from your eyes dashing from one side of the store to the next when you walk in. There's quite a lot to see in here. Antique furniture pieces line the walls while old school decor and kitchen appliances keep them company. My favorite picks included a stack of vintage Playboys ($5 each!), a leather cowboy belt with the name "Brent" burned into it, a set of luggage from Neiman Marcus ($30) and a pair of tan cowboy boots ($85). DP also has a great selection of dresses, tees and pants to choose from. The jewelry is kick ass too. DP always has new stuff in the store, so come down and visit any day. I had a great experience at Dolly Python mainly wandering around and seeing what brought up memories. They have a ton of vintage clothing-fabulous coats, hats, shoes, tons of cowboy boots, sunglasses, etc. They also have a lot of jewelry. I loved the chocolate lab who sat in the store so calmly, and the classic music that played overhead. We were immediately asked if we needed help, and I saw a lot of things that would make good home accents. If you have some time to kill, this is a good spot because you never know what you will find. The cuff links winked at me--no joke. They are blinking eyeball cuff links. What a find! Goes perfectly with the salmon colored ruffled tuxedo shirt and blue plaid polyester pants. Also spotted some vintage EVERYTHING in the store. But I was most excited about the super vintage WWHS mini megaphones. I will be stopping back for that. Well Hello, Dolly.... Overwhelming is an understatement to describe this place. It is PACKED with clutches, clothes, weird Jesus tapestries, a taxidermy cat, you name it. I love antique stores, I really do. Therefore, my standard is high. Call me an antique store snob but I like my store with a little more furniture and actual decorative items. Don't get me wrong, an antique store should have that weird-ass, 'what the hell is this and where did it come from?' However, I feel Dolly Python has more of that element than actual beautiful artifacts from the past. To their defense, that is what they are trying to achieve. Hipster status, not status among the old ladies that antique for a living. Nonetheless, this is a fun store with great prices and a friendly staff. If you need a stuffed house cat or maybe a velvet painting of Dolly Parton. It is there for you. I was torn today between buying a Pabst Blue Ribbon grail or a random painting montage with a tiger, typewriter, some Egyptian Pyramids and a cowboy. I went with a Polaroid camera. After living in Austin for 15+ years, I finally found a shop I can spend time in and find something I'm really interested in. The parking shop is easy to find off Haskell and the staff was friendly and helpful. There's everything from an assortment of hanging lamps to tiny collectibles. Visiting this vintage store reminds me of going to Ripley's Believe It or Not as a kid, only here you can buy everything you see no matter how outlandish. For me most of the merchandise is a bit too pricey to actually purchase, but I did manage to walk away with a small painting for only five dollars. Such a large beautiful eclectic grouping of items from about every decade from early 1900's to current. Every item was taking me back to my childhood digging in my grandparents stuff! I've had this place bookmarked for years. I don't get the chance to traipsy through Dallas much but swung by during a weekend break. The stuff here is cool, but don't think Goodwill pricing. A veritable hipster's delight: Tons of vintage dresses to the right as you enter, mostly in the $40-something range. True to Texas style, they have many cowgirl boots to the left. They also have a lot of random stuff; everything from original "I love Pac Man" bumper stickers to #deadthingsinjars (follow 'em on Instagram if you must). BUT! The highlight for me was the David Bowie LPs. Promos, first editions, etc... Definitely need plastic next time I visit. read more

I visited DP with my daughter and her friend to show them what a cool vintage store in Dallas looks like. The look of the store is really cool and eclectic! There's a variety of vintage clothing and western boots. To my surprise, it is way over priced! I'm saying 200-300% over priced. Usually when buying or selling antiques, it's marked up 100% from what you payed for it at the most. A old plain white polo shirt was marked $45. I can buy the same shirt at the polo store for $25 brand new. It should have been marked maybe $5-$10 at the most. So whomever is setting the prices, is either greedy or completely ignorant and or incompetent. If you want to make those sells, you need to reprice your store pronto. We will not be returning to buy from Dolly Python. You can find the same stuff elsewhere for a quarter of the cost. read more

While this place has a cool vibe, stocked with interesting finds, I can't say they are the most respectable or enjoyable antique/true vintage spot. First, I bought a black cat andiron here. Its tag said "Vintage andiron." I payed $30 for it and was so excited about such a unique old piece. But upon returning home I started researching it and found out it is a brand new, currently available andiron by Uniflame. It's not even a reproduction piece. It's just a modern item. You can buy a brand new set right now for $65. So, I basically payed full price for a used half of a modern andiron set. Second, there was a pair of vintage 70s owl wall hangings that said "two for $20." I could only find one of the owls so I asked them about it. They said that they had accidentally sold one of them, which is fine, I understand! But they said they wanted $20 for the remaining single owl. So, two owls for $20 or one for $20? Mmmmmkay. Last but not least, the people aren't the most friendly. I myself am an introvert so I don't expect or even want southern hospitality here. But if you ask questions or need assistance it isn't uncommon to receive a lot of eye rolls and sighs of annoyance. Yes this place has a cool vibe, yes they have great taste and have curated some neat things. But I am still a believer that kindness, respect and legit business practices matter. And that no matter how cool you style a store or how cool you dress, it can't compete with good, kind human behavior. read more

I've shopped here for years. Always wore my backpack in and never had a problem. Today a worker there told me I couldn't have my backpack on and I should leave. At the same time a white lady had a purse (large one) and they didn't bother her. Not saying it was racial profiling but my Louis Vuitton Bag must of looked different against my darker skin than her large purse did against hers. What a sick store! Every time I go into this store I find a treasure I didn't know I needed. Everything in this store is unique and goes with the concept the owner has created. Everything from the tarot card readings to the vinyl to the vintage clothing is sick. I try to go weekly because I know there will always be something new. Probably my favorite store in Dallas. Different vendors have their own booths so you can always try to haggle and if the person isn't there they try to call. I didn't feel like doing that but it's a tip that might come in handy for you. One of the worst vintage shopping experiences of my life! I am a collector, for personal wear, out of Northern CA. I try to get to shops when ever on the road. I walked into a huge selection and the lady told me it was set up by sleve length, all mixed decades, but here were her "good" vintage pieces. I started to browse. No measurements the sizing was arbitrarily S,M,L none of which held any bearing on true sizes. I picked a few pieces from the "good" vintage and some others. Nothing fit. (I'm usually good at eyeballing and since traveling I wasn't carrying a tape measure) I'm a normal size 12-14 vintage sizing. But that wasn't the problem , of course you're never garunteed to find a fit. The problem was, NOTHING was clean, NOTHING was repaired, and the prices for these nasty garments which would need dry cleaning, oxyclean soaks, new hems, replaced buttons, repaired seams were slightly under what in would pay in San Francisco! Dresses for $100 which I would need to put money and work into in a store where, when I left, I locked my doors and feared for my life. To say this was NOT a high rent district is putting it mildly. While I was trying on my pieces, I was getting a sore throat and a noxious haze of mothballs adhering to my mouth, nose the throat. I was thoroughly disgusted. When my friends shop on haight Ashbury - a very high rent district- can charge $125-$150 for carefully curated, cleaned and repaired garments, Dolly Python either needs to take some care in its clothing: size it, clean it, act like it matters, or lower the prices 50%. Obviously, they think the vintage buyers in Dallas are stinking hipsters who blow wads on anything with cache, not so and I will tell anyone I know traveling to Dallas to avoid this shop unless they bring a gas mask and want to feel gipped. read more
