I signed up for their newsletter and that's how I discovered that they have a retail location in Richmond Hill that was going to be open to the public the same time that I was going to be in the GTA, and the hotel that I was staying at was less than 10 minutes away. I believe that they have 2 retail locations (this one in Richmond Hill and one in Toronto proper). These locations open up to the public for a few months at a time, unlike their travelling sales where they are only in town for a few days. Anyway, it's a warehouse, so it looks and feels like a warehouse. Prices are ok. Some items are fairly cheap, like stickers ($0.50) and books ($2.50-$10). Others are slightly lower than retail, but not bargain basement prices. They had costumes which were the same price as Party City after Halloween. It's pretty big, and is fun to poke around if you have kids in your life. You'll almost certainly find something for them. It's in an industrial park so there's lots of free parking in their parking lot.

I have never been to a toy warehouse before. I bought 3 big red bags fill of toys. It felt like it's Christmas. The staff were friendly and seem to love there job. A staff offered to help me bring my toys to the cashier. There was no shopping carts there for customers so bring a wagon if you have. Thank you staff for doing what you do. I definitely will be coming again.

I've seen some of the exact same plates at other stores for maybe 30% higher price Cups and plates are my personal go to, but they have everything from soys sauce dishes to modern coffee mugs to matcha ceremony bowls. Styles are far ranging and include cute and elegant, modern and traditional styles, and they carry lots of different sizes so you are likely to find something to suit your taste. I personally only buy dishwasher safe / microwaveable ceramics (so I actually use them) and a lot of the stock they have fits that criteria. The rest of the store is a whole labyrinth of home goods like beauty, kitchen tools, home organization, snacks, and craft goods. Again some rare finds exist, so it is well worth a look. I personally bought calligraphy stuff that was cheaper and more convenient here than buying it online, and they had related supplies like writing pads, practice paper, etc. The Japanese trinket/souvenir section stands out to me because you can get things that are rare to chance upon elsewhere. The ceramic darumas are well priced, and I've bought other cute traditional figurines there. Overall there's a lot to see in this store, to the point where it feels overwhelming to browse all sections. I keep my visits targeted and short so I don't wear myself out looking at 200 pairs of similar looking chopsticks. Also, sometimes the prices in this store are questionable, but I browse knowing overall it's fair (case in point for weird pricing - tiny plate $2, significantly larger medium size plate for $2.25). I don't live close by so I come around whenever I'm in the area.

I noticed quite a lot of poorly used clothes on the rack and even with holes and rips. You really have to ensure the clothes are in good enough condition to your liking before purchasing. They do offer refund anyway just in case within 7 days, clearance items are final though so make the right decision. I have purchased a few great deals from here. I think it's a nice place to get second hand or even brand new items when you get lucky. So many lightly used but you just have to be patient and go through stuff, eventually you'll find nice ones. Quick tip on white clothes - check collar area and underarms to ensure no discolouration. Darker colour clothes - I don't know about you but I dislike deodorant / lotion marks when I pick it up from the rack. Just a random thought! I will continue coming here once in a while just to snatch some good deals especially when they have promos!

Afterwards, I run errands. I tend to shop at No Frills and grab a bit at McDonald's. In the same plaza is this Dollarama. I decided to check it out a few Saturdays ago. In front of the store, to the left of its main entrance, was a female panhandler. She was sitting on the pavement, holding a sign, and asking for money. If you have been reading my reviews for a while, I rarely have cash or change on me. It was the case here. I let her know that I didn't have any change. Being who I am, I asked if she wanted anything. I was expecting a snack or a drink. I got this response: "A gift card," she said. My first reaction: Pretty bold request. I buy gift cards for friends and family. I barely know this woman! I decided to ignore this request. Sure enough. the gift cards greeted me immediately. I didn't even know that Dollarama sold them. I do now! I loved looking at kitchen gadgets and accessories. The silicone bakeware and cookie cutters were awesome. I have a thing for reusable straws. I saw both stick versions with a slight bend at the top and telescopic stainless steel ones. How fancy! I needed crazy glue for an insulated Starbucks tumbler where the two layers weren't happy with each other and separated on their own. I glued them together with it and it worked well. Both Easter and Valentine's Day merchandise were available. It was so weird seeing the former when the latter hadn't happened yet. I liked the chocolates, candy, and plushies for both occasions. I was here for snacks and food. I saw a bunch of Chef Boyardee cans. I used to eat a lot of Chef Boyardee when I was in elementary school. I picked up a few cans to relive my youth. I like that you don't need a can opener. You pull the top off, heat up the contents, and devour. Both the beef ravioli and beefaroni taste the same as I remember them. It's decent to have them in your pantry when you are too tired to cook or you're hibernating when the weather sucks. This store has Vachon and Hostess snacking cakes. Yes to everything! I liked the phone accessories aisle. I travel with a colourful USB cable from Dollarama. It's still being sold. It works well. I got Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Zero bottles. Items tends to start at $1.25 at this store. However, one-litre bottles of these flavours were $1 each. There was a short lineup at this store. I got a woman at the checkout who was nice. She scanned all my items. I placed them in my reusable bag and paid with a debit card. Done! I thanked her and left with my goods. I was happy with my purchases. The panhandler was still outside. She actually moved to another Dollarama in the vicinity the following Saturday. She seems to be a regular at Dollarama stores in Richmond Hill. Other than this woman, I had a good experience at this store. I'd return again when I'm in this plaza. (39)

They used to only accept cash and debit payments. Okay, dollar stores aren't the place to go for high-end stuff. But shopping here is fun and the selection is great. They have a wide variety of greeting cards, gift bags, kitchen gadgets, chocolate bars, seasonal decorations, candles and so much more. When it gets close to Christmas, expect lineups especially on weekends. The location is across from Hillcrest Mall. There's sufficient parking to boot.

I finally got to visit it on Labour Day. If you love Japanese products, particularly themed items, such as Pink Panther, Moomin, and Line characters, this store is screaming out your name. Prices are pretty reasonable for what you are getting. I got introduced to Brown, the bear in the Line group of characters, when there was a limited Lamy fountain pen of Brown a few years back. I then when to Shanghai and there was a Line store. I was pleased to see that you can get facial and eye masks branded with these cute characters. I like Pink Panther. I didn't realize how popular he still is until I walked into this store, and saw purses, phone cases, stuffed toys, and a ton more. Wow! The plush, stuffed toys in this store are pretty extensive. Keep on walking towards the back of the store and see the large selection. They are adorable! As a person who enjoys looking at electronic accessories, the variety is impressive. I loved looking at these heavy duty Moomin power banks for your cell phones, tablets, and more. They are heavier in weight than any of the power banks that I own, but they are cute, functional, and mightier in charge. I did not buy anything. My goal was to browse and then figure out what I'd like. From purse accessories to stationery, I can see myself doing a ton of damage. I like that Hillcrest is bringing exciting stores into its mall. Miniso is a perfect addition to the store roster. (336)

The odd occasion that I do visit is on a Saturday or Sunday, I could've been unlucky. You do have to go up to the front counter to open boxes if you want to see what's inside (some boxes are obvious but others are not so clear). You can also test electrical products by plugging it in. I wish when they reseal it, they at least label the box to let the next person know what's inside so if they're not interested, they don't waste their time opening it. Just be aware, things that don't work are thrown back in the bin but the staff would let me know if they recognize what it is or if it works before I attempt. This month I peeked in and found some great finds like a neck massager retailing at $50-60 for $20 and today, I've found Coop pillow for $20 completely sealed and unused! What a score 10% of the retail price! There are other Amazon pillows there too but I think people didn't know about this brand so they passed by it. This pillow is great, at the top end of pricing and highly recommended on Reddit. I also have one myself and enjoy it (not the cooling one though so this Eden one would be great for the warmer months). Do I need another one? The name always throws me off because I think of Woodside Square in Scarborough. Anyway, it's next door to Kitchen Stuff Plus, which is highly convenient. This Winners isn't my favourite. It makes sense to me why I haven't got around to doing a review until now. It's not a horrible store. I find that the selection is either spot on or disappointing, depending on what I need. Over a decade ago, when I worked for a company in Scarborough, it was hosting its first user symposium. I played a few roles, including updating our corporate Web site with photos and information about the event. I needed business clothes. My friend and I came to this Winners to get some decent apparel. This store holds my personal record for spending the most time at a Winners during a single visit. We spent two hours looking at and trying on blazers, blouses, and pants. I ended up buying a blazer and a blouse. The blazer still works and has stood the test of time. I have since worn it numerous times for various job interviews. It's kind of my lucky blazer. Sadly, the blouse didn't last as long as the blazer. I recently went back to this store to check it out. I was here for one thing: a PopSocket. A couple of weeks ago, I got a new phone case for my new phone. I needed a new PopSocket, as I might as well go with this new streak. I came here last Wednesday after running a number of errands. There is always plenty of parking. I parked fairly close to the store and walked in. A friendly guy was manning a hand sanitizer station. He was great. I said hi and walked in. Purses greeted me next. Sadly, there wasn't a single Kipling bag for me to gush over. I was sad. I like that most Winners stores have similar layouts. I immediately found the phone accessories section, which is right by the checkout. There were lots of PopSocket designs to choose from. I was happy and selected the one that won my heart. I avoided the shoe section. I don't need more shoes! The selection of women's size 11 footwear is also hit or miss. It's all about timing. The store's interior is much more inviting than I recall. Aisles are wider. The lighting is better. I liked the improvements since I was last here. I paid using a debit card. There wasn't a lineup at 7 pm on a Wednesday night. I got my TJX Style+ card scanned, too. I thanked the woman and left. Here's hoping that it offers Kipling bags soon. It's a good Winners. It's just not my favourite out of the three in Markham, but it had what I needed during this visit. (429)
