The employees here that I've bumped into over the years had usually been pretty friendly. The only thing I'd change is that they do a preemptive strike on the price by raising it dramatically, like up to $3 right now. Reason is because due to inflations, I'm sure that its almost next to impossible to find the items they wanted that they could sell for $1.50, which is as of February 2022, the price they're starting to sell some of their items for. So might as well get ahead of this thing, but also the other reason is because by raising the price up a bit, it also will allow them to provide a much more selections of items. Like better selections for canned food or other foods. Regardless, its pretty fun to walk around in there to find any potential treasure or good bargain (many items aren't, but still,.... Doesn't negate the notion that it's still fun to look around in.). If not, then just grab a cheap drink and not be thirsty afterwards regardless if you were shopping for hidden bargains here or not. We picked up a couple fleece and shirts here and they survived the wash and are still comfortable weeks later, and they were such a good price, nearly half of what you'd expect. The deals on standard keychains and magnets were also very good so we bought dozens.

So do expect to pay a slight bit more expensive. I'm all for independent stores, and its definitely understandable to make their items slightly bit more expensive, but it's kinda hard to support stores that overcharges on items that we knew we can get for much cheaper for the same quality within a 10-15 minute drive from the location.

The prices on some of the items I've seen were a mix between fair and competitive, and the few employees I've bumped into there seems fairly nice. But the few things about it that I didn't dislike of anything but felt I should mention was that this place felt like a combination between your average grandparent's place and a warehouse. Basically this place, while had some nice things in stock, but felt a little bit run down. That and the front door and the front part of this place might make a few people unsure if this is even a store at all. I guess don't judge a book by its cover and all because they did have a few nice things. So if you have what I like to call " the thrifty fever" like me, someone who likes thrift stores, then this location seems like a pretty decent place to check out.

visited miniso on granville street, and this is exactly the kind of store where "i'm just going to…read morehave a quick look" is a dangerous sentence. five minutes later, you're surrounded by sanrio characters, plushies, beauty gadgets and enough cute little things to make you question every ounce of self control you thought you had. miniso has built its whole personality around affordable, design forward impulse buys, somewhere between a lifestyle shop, character merch destination and a treasure hunt. the company originated in china but draws heavily from a minimalist japanese inspired aesthetic, so the store feels bright, clean and deliberately curated rather than chaotic or overcrowded. inside, there was a surprisingly huge mix of things to browse: makeup and beauty accessories, shelves packed with sanrio goodies, slippers, hair brushes, cutlery, water bottles and an entire wall of plushies. there was also plenty of mofusand and minions merch, because apparently i needed to be reminded that my shopping basket has room for at least one more adorable thing. a big part of miniso's appeal is the collectible culture. licensed collaborations, blind boxes, character goods, stationery, desk accessories, little gadgets and novelty items are all displayed in a way that makes even the most unnecessary purchase feel strangely reasonable. everything is affordable enough that you can easily convince yourself, "it's only a few dollars," which is precisely how "just looking" turns into "okay, i'll take this one too." they even have a rewards program, which somehow makes the entire impulse buy cycle feel more organized and intentional. points for buying things i didn't know i needed? suddenly this is a strategic shopping expedition. the whole experience is basically engineered for browsing. you walk in expecting to spend five minutes, and somehow you're examining cat themed keychains, skincare tools, sanrio accessories and stationery you had absolutely no plans to buy when you walked through the door. and honestly, that's half the fun of miniso. you never quite know what you're going to find, and the rotating mix of characters and collaborations gives you plenty of reasons to wander through the aisles "just one more time." just don't blame me when you leave with a plushie you definitely did not come in for.

But the tidbit I have is a few issues I have to pick with these guys. One of which is something I've complained about, which is that the cart thing is still an issue. It is very common for the carts to be non-existent because people refuse to put it back. This is more of an issue inside the store. Secondly, don't even bother with their website when visiting the stores because sometimes their items is mismatched to what's actually in the store like their Onn tablet where they're suppose to be 4th gen as stated on their website but what their signs in their store's electronics department, it says its the 3rd gen. Lastly, their values on foods aren't even affordable anymore. So many prices seems to be somewhat comparable to other grocery store chain. Not all the time but felt like they could've lowered the prices quite a bit more but chose to raise the prices because people are willing to pay for them. I get inflation BUT felt like since they're such a large company, you'd figure they have a much more stronger negotiating power than most of the other companies they're competing with. This location, the only GOOD thing I have to say is that occasionally if you are looking for food, they do offer a decent amount of selections of their own Great Value brands in the freezer aisle, like their $9.98 buttermilk chicken, meatballs and so forth. She suggested the Walmart credit card and I said "no thank you" and then she asked for donations and again I said "no thank you". She proceeded to say in a condescending voice "so you don't want to help kids who don't have parents and are orphans" and made a face towards us and rolled her eyes. I respectfully told her "no thank you" and she said it one more time and this time I told her "we help and donate in other ways". And then she rolled her eyes at us. She then preceded to say "you didn't know what I was going to say regarding the details of the credit cards" which I responded "yes I did, because l've been coming here for almost 2 decades and know about the details of the credit card and the donations." She continued to give us attitude and talk in a disrespectful tone. This employee treated us as if we had done something wrong by saying we didn't want the credit card or to donate. Usually when employees offer credit cards or donations and customers say "no", they say "okay" and don't continue the conversation. But this employee continued badgering us even after we provided her our reasoning for why we didn't want the credit card or to donate (we didn't even owe her an explanation but we still provided her with one in hopes of ending the conversation). Even after we had paid she continued questioning us and giving us a lecture before handing us our receipt.

The area is very dirty and not well maintained. Once in the store the shelves are very high and narrow. It is a very overwhelming feeling if you are sensitive to small spaces/claustrophobic. The amount of items in there is very overwhelming as well. I didn't stay long and mostly stuck to the snacks and candy. They have a large area near the check out that has candy, gum etc. Purchased an aero bar, coffee crisp, kit kit and toffee candy bar. For 4 candy bars (I either didn't get a receipt, didn't take it or lost it but it was $4.07 USD. There were 3 self check outs and one staff there to check out as well. Saw employees in aisles but only one at registers. Overall it was an underwhelming and overwhelming experience and I would not go out of my way to go back if in the area.

some shopping trips are about getting in and getting out, but one can easily spend hours at park…read moreroyal. what makes park royal unique is that it's actually two shopping areas, north and south, connected by pedestrian walkways and a short drive. while both sides have plenty of shops, i'm almost always at park royal south. it feels brighter, more modern, and has a great mix of fashion, home, and lifestyle stores. my usual stops include zara, simons, winners, h&m, and osaka supermarket. there's also a cineplex on the south side. wish there was a uniqlo though. just outside the main mall is the village, which has more of an open air shopping feel. you'll find stores like home depot, anthropologie, and michaels, along with whole foods, starbucks, restaurants, and cafés. it's easy to turn a quick shopping trip into a full day affair. one of the things i enjoy most about park royal is that it feels less hectic than some of the larger malls around metro vancouver. the wide walkways, natural light, and open air sections create a more relaxed atmosphere, making it easy to take your time instead of feeling rushed from store to store. parking is plentiful and free, which makes it an easy choice when you want to shop without the usual mall hassle. whether you're picking up everyday essentials, looking for a little retail therapy, or simply need somewhere to spend a rainy afternoon, park royal is my favourite shopping destination on the north shore. often when i go, "i'm just looking," but we all know how that usually ends. maybe that's just part of the park royal experience.
