I politely asked her if I can purchase one squishy they were guarding behind the counter. I was only pointing at which one and as I was leaning in to point, she rudely snapped and told me to "BACK OFF! "BACK UP!" Apparently I was too near the products that she was guarding behind the register. There was literally a gate/door that blocks the entire shelf, which I wouldn't be able to touch anyway. I was taken aback by it and startled. I found that to be completely rude, out of line, and very unnecessary. She thought I was trying to snatch them? I am a regular paying customer here. I don't know what kind of customers this store gets but I buy here all the time with no issues. The squishy products I know are popular with buyers, but I am not there to steal. When I was cashing out at a kiosk, no one came to help. The same rude female worker stood at the back and didn't say anything either. She was with another girl and they stood there gossiping and chit chatting and just both looked at me and turned around without saying anything. I spoke to the manager Claudia and as I was trying to speak, she was talking over me and I couldn't really get my point across. She was not a good listener. She was trying to rush me and get me off her back. The young workers that get hired here are incompetent, uneducated, and just lack customer service skills. Just young kids trying to collect minimal paycheck with minimal training. My suggestion in the future is proper training and how to politely speak with customers in a friendly manner. Just overall, manners in general, which their parents probably never taught. Because of this poor customer experience, now I am uncomfortable and not willing to step foot back into this business.

Review #932 2025-111…read more Located Torrance Promenade noisy north of Trader Joe's, Five Below takes over the defunct Party City. And if you haven't heard of them, they're a specialty discount gift shop chain that prices most of its products between $1.00 - $5.00, with some exceptional finds $5+. I've seen this store off the 405 Fwy. (Hawthorne location) due to the brilliant blue name signage, but have never been to one until one of the moms from my son's Cantonese school mentioned there's a cute graphic tee that's she must get: "You're All That & Dim Sum!" at the Rolling Hills store (refer to Review #923). Since that 1st visit 2 years ago, I've been infrequently visiting the discount store, especially around the holidays. They have awesome stocking stuffers! Their tees are only $5.55 ea., & the fabric is quite durable. It's been 2 years & both tees (You're All That & Dim Sum! & Born To Game Forced To Work) are still in excellent condition... color is still dark without fading, no pilling, comfy fabric. There's a couple of current tees that my son thought would be awesome gifts for his cousins: "Somedays You Feel Like You're Surrounded By Idiots Other Days You Realize It's Not Just Somedays" & "My Alone Time Is For Everyone's Safety" (older thinks he knows best & younger likes his space... LMAO); while my nephew & his wife has a sense of humor, they're more likely to be pissed off at me. Then he thought there were 2 that perfectly suits his personality: "To Save Time Let's Just Assume I Know Everything" & "You Are Witnessing Greatness"; to which I reply you're just asking to be beat up. Yeesh! O_o I got some candy bags at Sugar Rush, but you can opt for their mix & match bins where you can get 10 pieces for $1.50 or 15¢ ea. There's a huge Haribo gummies section at $1.50/bag, but you can get similar ones though less flavor options at the Dollar Tree for $1.25. The bargain bins offers knickknacks between $1 - $4, & found some cutesy stocking stuffers for the LOs. While the Torrance location is new, it's not as easy to navigate like the Rolling Hills location. I seem to have this issue with all stores (Dollar Tree, Grocery Outlet, Target, Marshalls, etc.)... LOL... I get used to the layout, & go to a different location & get turned around trying to find things. And holiday shopping is a little stressful for me; I like to get in & out as quickly as possible, Customer service is friendly & helpful... different staff approached me at various sections asking if I need assistance. Considering how jammed packed the parking lot was & heavy store traffic, I only had to wait for 1 customer before it was my turn to use the kiosk to scan my purchases. Is this the sign of the times? No register/cashier, only self-service? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I usually bring my own bags, so I'm not sure if they charge for plastic bags like grocery stores or you're required to purchase reusable totes. Parking is plentiful except during the holidays when it's jammed packed the week before, & slightly after Christmas. Five Below is a great alternative for the bargain hunter! And now that the holidays are here... check 'em out for gift giving ideas.

Household goods, kitchenware, arts and crafts, school supplies, party supplies, hardware supplies, tools, food and snacks, cleaning products, etc. Although they have tons of items, there's a few things they need to correct here. Items that are not tagged can be tricky. The cashier can charge you at any price on the spot and you wouldn't know unless you ask. What looks like a dollar can be more. Inflation and tariffs are definitely hurting the pocket. You also can't go back inside once you've paid. If you bought something already and checked out, you can't go back inside unless you leave your items up front. Maybe they've had issues with theft before or miscommunications with items. The cashier was friendly however, she was nice about it. Just strange practices but I get it, it's a small business and people probably steal here. EDIT: Came back here again shortly after. Cashier Julie was not nice and needs to be more friendly. Different cashier than the first one. She's a F!l!p!no lady. Kind of snooty and arrogant. Didn't smile nor said hello. When I spoke to her in Tagalog, she acted like she didn't hear me and responded back in English. The other guys that stock here are nice however. We needed an empty box to put all our stuff in but he took it from us to bring it up to the front before we can use it. This small store is a bit strict.

Review #866 2025-038…read more I first discovered Grocery Outlet about a decade ago in Fresno, & was attracted to the unusual finds at a "grocery store," such as an Olaf bike helmet, Curious George: Discovery Beach Game, etc. The first S. Bay store opened 6 years ago in Redondo Beach, just before COVID-19; it's a bit out of way to shop there. And about a year ago, they took over the former Big Lots location in Lomita. What is Grocery Outlet? They're a discount grocery chain that sells name brand groceries & fresh produce for 40% - 70% less than conventional grocery stores. How? By buying overstocked, seasonal, closeout, & discontinued items from various suppliers. This "opportunistic buying" allows them to acquire items at significant discounts, which are passed on to us. My 14 YO daughter's swim team does this away meet "gift" (junk) exchange where they create a goody bag filled with their fav snacks & drinks. They're kids so it's obviously junk foods & sodas, except for the handful who treat each meet with consideration of this bag o' treats may hinder their performance. I'm grateful for the less expensive options at Grocery Outlet. Since I don't agree with their choices, I started creating my own carbo-load sustenance (fresh fruits, granola bars, nuts, etc.) on competition days. Grocery Outlet offer pretty great deals on fresh fruits, I especially loved the 2-lb. strawberry pack that my husband got recently... so fresh, juicy, & sweet! I got some red cherries (at $2.99/lb.) that were sweet too! Not all produce offer better quality & prices, I'd say it's more like 50-50. Another recent find was A-Sha Spicy Seaweed (only 99¢) & Keroppi Mandarin Noodles with Silly Spicy Sauce (60% discount). Store hours are 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM daily, just a couple hours shorter than the traditional stores. Wide aisles are well-stocked & organized, but you may not always find the same products at your next shopping trip due to opportunistic buying, & what may be priced that day may be priced differently the next day (e.g. Quaker Chewy Limited Edition Valentine Minis: Chocolate Chip with Sprinkles was 99¢, & 2 days later it was $3.99). Also, it's important to check the expiration dates for those too-good-to-be-true deals, they usually have a short expiration dates or are already expired. Yikes! There's usually only 1 register opened even when there's a line, I wish they would opened another register, but the cashiers are typically quick that sometimes I have to load my own bags. Sign up for the WOW! Crowd with your mobile number to enter sweepstakes, track savings, & purchase history. Download the app to see what's in store, get access to insider events, & digital offers, including a $5 off $25 coupon at registration. Grocery Outlet may not be our main go-to store, but it's certainly a great back-up to the traditional stores.
