At first, I thought, typical thift store- thousands of coffee mugs and baskets. But wait!…read more An ART section? This place actually had these beautiful photos of europe you see at all the arty suburban shows for a fraction of price. Bright greece days, soothing Italian sunsets . You name it. They were marked $50 and $70 dollars but the sign said 2/$18. GO get them right NOW. The pictures being there set my mind a wandering- did the dude who did them DIE? Did he bring no name coffee to his suburban art show instead of Starbucks and get banned, never to sell to yuppies too lazy to travel and take their OWN pictures? It was enough to make me explore more and then I discoverd the ... SHOT GLASS section! Someone was thoughtful enough to think of the hard drinker's needs. I felt... warmed by their kindness. Theres clothes and shoes. You know how I feel about those, a long section of nice jewelry and a unusual selection of cartoon character glasses from the 70 and 80s. One's like Pepples'boyfriend Freddy or the "Georgy and the Pirates". In all, a interesting shop if you're in the hood.

Generally overpriced, like they already priced according to the internet.....I prefer a true thrift store that makes treasure hunting fun. I also like to be greeted, so when two people were working and no one said hello it bothers me enough to not return.

On Monday, 15 December I visited the Goodwill store in Round Lake Beach, Illinois (Store #088)…read more My visit was pleasant and uneventful...until I went to pay for my items. Employee #180709 performed in what I can only describe as an appallingly rude, discourteous, and unprofessional manner. Employee #180709 did not greet me, did not respond to my greeting, did not speak to me; he simply stood there glaring at me and then handed me the receipt without a word. Employee #180709 presented an attitude of disgust and disdain for my custom, and behaved as though my presence there was offensive. I don't know what I did to warrant this behaviour; I stood in the line quietly, waiting for my turn (there was only one cashier available at 11am), and then greeting him in a friendly manner. Employee #180709 appeared to 'glare' at me as though my presence was an offence to him. Employee #180709 behaved in what I perceived as a bigoted, racially-biased manner, which made my visit there thoroughly unpleasant and made me feel unwelcome. I am very disappointed, disgusted, and displeased by the behaviour of Employee #180709 and do not recommend him or this store to anyone.

Everything about this location is great apart from one very frustrating, insulting, major customer…read moreservice flaw... Greed! Customers often leave change in the self checkout registers and the staff collects that money and keeps it in a cup in a drawer at the CS Station at that area. There have been times when I've needed literally $0.02 in change and have been refused using the loose change left by Customers to make up for the shortage; being told that it's against Company policy to give that money to customers, and one member even went so far as to tell me that she "could get fired" for giving me a couple cents in change to complete my transaction! Really? Meijer is going to terminate an employee for letting customers make up insignificant shortages with change left behind by other customers that their billion dollar corporation isn't entitled to in the first place?! That is Customers' money. "Leave a Penny/Take a Penny" Not only isn't Meijer entitled to that money to begin with, but I personally have done my fair share of "Free Labor" restocking items that other shoppers left on shelves in wrong isles, reshelving product that fell on the floor, reporting spills so customers don't slip and fall and sue Meijer for thousands, folding clothes, etc. All this Community Service I do to help keep the store neat and safe is certainly worth a few pennies every now and then, which is to say nothing of the fact that I have personally given my change to the Self checkout staff and told them to put it in the bucket and Pay It Forward! People are struggling to make ends meet, and Meijer or Meijer staff are refusing to put unearned change back into the pockets of paying customers?! That's deplorable. It's exactly this kind of Corporate Greed that lends or even inspires people to feel justified in retail theft. Lastly, a big shout out to Sam D. Best Meijer staff member ever!
