Today was my mom and I first time visiting an Ollie's store. We had a great time, at first. The…read morestore was clean, organized and there was a great selection of books. The problem came when it was time to check out. The guy on the first register from the checkout line to the left around 1:45pm on December 24, 2024 is the reason I am leaving this review. My mom and I were next in line to checkout and the other registers were occupied by other customers alsobchecking out. When the young cashier guy finished ringing up his customer instead of checking us out next, he walks off and pretends to busy himself with something which was very obvious he didn't want to ring up anyone BUT when the next register opened up and my mom and I walked to the next cashier he immediately went back to his register to take the next customer behind us. At that moment it was extremely clear he didn't not want to ring us up for whatever reason but that was extremely rude! I don't want to say race was a part of it but I can't think of any other reason he choose to intentionally not ring us up when we had the same amount of items the customer he helped before and after us had. This really messed up our first time experience at Ollies. The cashier lady to the right side we ended up going to was very nice and signed my mom up for the Ollies Army rewards. After we left I called and spoke to the manager, I think his name is Mike or Michael. I explained what just took place and he was very nice and said he will run the cameras back and also notify upper management. We appreciate him for hearing our concern and not dismissing us. Hopefully the cashier takes a customer service course or finds a new job where he free to be rude else where. This was very upsetting to be treated the way we were and it being obvious in plain sight. Hopefully a real consequence for the young boy comes out of it.

Don't go to this location! Drive to Richmond or sugar land. The staff is poorly trained or…read moreincompetent. Asked for a gift receipt, associate didn't know how to give me one, the supervisor or manager claims they can't give me one because I was polite and let them help other customers while I waited for her to resolve. She blamed me for not asking, versus the associate (or educating the associate). Claims they can't give one, she basically was like too bad, and I protested. *i* suggest they refund me and I repurchase, which was a headache for the employee to figure out too. They did an even exchange and No gift receipt again! ZERO PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS. She calls the GM and they say to write name and accept photo copy of receipt and give the true receipt to my gift receiver. Ok, great. Fast forward one week and I need to return a keyboard THAT DOESNT EVEN WORK. I show photo receipt to the manager, she tells me I can't return it because it's already been returned (because of the even exchange). Blames ME for not having right receipt, when I took a pic of their signature and all on receipt like THEY told me to. She calls her GM again, says I can only do store credit? Fine whatever. But then she refunds me less $ than it's worth, I point it out, she claims it's different item because the name showed differently. I show her how item number is the exact same, she then calls GM again and they said it's less $ because I don't have a receipt. LADY, I DO! Somehow they figure it out, I get my gift card for right around. TDLR: train your staff on how to do gift receipts and have competent people with problem solving skills and good customer service! Oh, and not have faulty products?! I was polite the entire time but got zero apology and zero suggestions to reconcile that *i* didn't come up with on my own!
