If you had told me I was going to take the time to write a review about Dollar Tree, I would've told you you were crazy. But I just walked out of what I believe is the biggest mess of a store I have ever seen. My pictures speak for themselves. What is anyone there thinking? Are they that desperate for help that not one employee can see that the place is an absolute mess? There were two employees I could see who were dragging their feet, sighing at any questions, and obviously bored to be there. When I said, "This place looks like a tornado came through it", one employee mumbled..."Yeah". I can't believe a manager would let a store look this way or that corporate would allow it. Management should be shutting them down right now until those boxes are empty and the shelves are full. I don't know the reason for this but it is completely unacceptable. Laziness to the nth degree!"

It's fine as a Dollar Tree, but well picked over, so you're not going to find any of the rare, hot items unless you camp outside.

Easily one of my favorite reasons to visit Brookside. If you're looking for something specific,…read morethen you're going to have to find it amongst all the other cool STUFF. I love the mix of whimsical, satirical, and locally-themed merchandise. There is always something seasonal whether that is late-year holidays, spring decor, or nifty merch in line with the local sportsball teams. You can easily spend wayyyy too much time in here, maybe leafing through some fun books or admiring the handmades & artisanal jewelry. Their jewelry section, which is mostly earrings and accent rings, is sourced from artisans both locally and regionally. I tend to pick up a stocking stuffer here just about every time I'm in because I know I'm not going to find those exact pieces anywhere else. Detail: the up-cycled clothes, such as Chiefs-themed distressed jeans, are ridiculously cool. The prices may be a touch more here and there, but you aren't likely to find some of those items elsewhere and therein lies the real value. Add in that the staff is always friendly and welcoming and the whole place has a happy feel. Parking is, well, Brookside, so get out and browse. Just know that your browsing may end up being more of an extended visit, just like when we stop in.

And they support and donate to some great local causes, including KCUR and KU's reknowned cancer center. On this day, STUFF was stuffed to the gills with wonderful items, and a fairyland for Christmas shopping! You couldn't ask for a better place to find unique and artisan-made items, including jewelry, home decor items, books, candles, ornaments, glassware, and some of the best greeting cards you'll ever find. There are fanciful, fun, frivolous, practical, fragrant, wearable, beautiful, gift-able things to please every age, aesthetic, and gender. Of particular note is a beautifully designed-and-created by the proprietors collection of sweaters in aqua and red that would delight anyone, but especially Kansas City's WSL fans. On this day, the shop was also stuffed to the gills with shoppers, AND there were plenty of available, knowledgeable, helpful customer service personnel, including the owners and founders of "a store called STUFF"!

Individuals rent out spaces to display their items they have for sale. Each area usually has similar and unique items. You can easily spend well over an hour or more looking at the various sections of the store. I was pleased to see a younger guy that had opened a regular bookstore booth in one area. We ended up purchasing a book from him and then my husband bought some antique license plates since muscle cars are his hobby. There are some things in each booth that may be very reasonable, and also there will be booths that are holding sales with a percentage off of their items. There was also a booth that had some quality re-sale men's clothing, and I purchased a nice shirt for my husband. Since we had some items in our hand, a worker asked if we wanted to have them held upfront. Typically you bring items upfront if you have more than one and they will put your name on them and you just ask when you go out front and it's time to purchase. I think the main things that are overpriced at the antique store are paintings. I have seen similar paintings at thrift stores that are actually originals as well and they are drastically cheaper. So I would say that there can be good values throughout, but some things are overpriced and that's why I gave it a four. I do like this thrift store because it's not as crowded with items so you could actually view each booth without being overwhelmed.
