Easily one of my favorite reasons to visit Brookside. If you're looking for something specific, then you're going to have to find it amongst all the other cool STUFF. I love the mix of whimsical, satirical, and locally-themed merchandise. There is always something seasonal whether that is late-year holidays, spring decor, or nifty merch in line with the local sportsball teams. You can easily spend wayyyy too much time in here, maybe leafing through some fun books or admiring the handmades & artisanal jewelry. Their jewelry section, which is mostly earrings and accent rings, is sourced from artisans both locally and regionally. I tend to pick up a stocking stuffer here just about every time I'm in because I know I'm not going to find those exact pieces anywhere else. Detail: the up-cycled clothes, such as Chiefs-themed distressed jeans, are ridiculously cool. The prices may be a touch more here and there, but you aren't likely to find some of those items elsewhere and therein lies the real value. Add in that the staff is always friendly and welcoming and the whole place has a happy feel. Parking is, well, Brookside, so get out and browse. Just know that your browsing may end up being more of an extended visit, just like when we stop in. read more

Don't miss this store at ANY time of the year, as it's an ever-changing Wonderland chockfull of things you will love! And they support and donate to some great local causes, including KCUR and KU's reknowned cancer center. On this day, STUFF was stuffed to the gills with wonderful items, and a fairyland for Christmas shopping! You couldn't ask for a better place to find unique and artisan-made items, including jewelry, home decor items, books, candles, ornaments, glassware, and some of the best greeting cards you'll ever find. There are fanciful, fun, frivolous, practical, fragrant, wearable, beautiful, gift-able things to please every age, aesthetic, and gender. Of particular note is a beautifully designed-and-created by the proprietors collection of sweaters in aqua and red that would delight anyone, but especially Kansas City's WSL fans. Stuff, stop it, Stuff!!!! Stop being irresistible!!! Seriously, it's not fair to a girl who has put herself on a budget like Yours, Truly. I mean, let's start with the folky vintagey Halloween *Stuff* that lured me right in from my innocent travels to CVS for essentials. This display did what displays are supposed to do, of course. I ain't placing blame on them or anything for such evil, I mean, sales-generating, tactics. Front and center: a giant papier-mâché Halloween cat! There might as well have been a sign with "I am yours, Joi" above it. And surrounding it, all kinds of Halloween delights, not the kind of thing you're going to find at Target (duh) or one of those Halloween pop-up stores, of course. If you're a Halloween fanatic like I am, get to *Stuff*in' ( a new verb I just made up just for this store) immediately. Then, sigh, there's the charm necklaces and bracelets. They have ones for Halloween that are to die over. Then there's the display cases with single charms, tons, to create your own masterpiece. If you have a crafty friend, you've hit gift Mecca in this store. But there's tons more. I didn't even get to look at 1/4 of it, because I was so busy being dazzled by the charms, Halloween decor and sparkly things (oh yes, just call me a crow. I can handle it). At the risk of sounding redundant: this place has the most adorable stuff that you can possibly imagine. The incredibly cuteness of it all is a bit overwhelming. Every inch of this place is filled to the brim with arts and crafts and toys and trinkets and everything you never knew you wanted until now. The workers were really nice and let Roshelle H and I take pictures of these super adorable monsters made out of aluminum. You just can't walk out of here without buying something. Perhaps you want to create a suitcase out of recycled traffic signs. Something heavy, unique, an eye-catcher so to speak. Wait, they already sell those. C'mon, you gotta do better that. Someone told me about this store years ago and I got on their email list but hadn't visited until about a month ago. We live near Tulsa, OK and this store is in Kansas City, MO - 4 hours away-so I finally got to go recently when we were up there for a family event. I fell in love with this store over the years just by the emails they sent and the blog they write. It is owned by 2 sisters and they are so uplifting and they carry items by local artists. I wish I lived closer because it looks like they have really fun events and stuff. My daughter in law and I went and we were greeted by friendly sales people. They had a gift if you checked in with Yelp-I got a cute Stuff tote bag, how nice! The owners were not there-I think they were shopping at a market for the store-but the salespeople were great. I told them I had been excited about visiting their store for years. Ended up getting a few unique gift items for friends. I was so impressed-days later- they sent me a postcard for visiting. Amy R. hit the nail on the head with her review - it's like arts and crafts on crack - every place there is something to look at, every corner has colors and patterns and quirk. You could spend hours in a section of it and get dizzy with all there is to see and buy - it's stimulating. I gave Stuff a bad rap - you see, it never used to be this good. I went in a few years ago when it first opened and I swear it had to of been run by some stuffed shirt from Johnson County - the whole scene was backwards. I accidentally dropped two or three postcards I was looking at on the checkout counter and the woman actually reprimanded me! Well, I believe she's long gone because the store on a beautiful Saturday afternoon was just as full of employees as it was customers, and they were all young and hip and wearing cool square glasses. They were smiling and laughing about this new shipment of jewelry they had gotten in - (I snuck a peak at it, the new jewelry was beautiful). I have a little cold, and I asked them for some Kleenex, and this Anthropologie-dressed woman told me kindly that all they had back there was balled up toilet paper - which I laughed at and told her fine with me! They were really into the place, you know - very refreshing, very Brookside. They were proud of STUFF, the walls were lined with the awards they've received over the last few years - and I can understand why. I was just in there yesterday, but I can't seem to pin down one definitive item to write about... I think there were cool, artsy light switch fixtures with pop icons like Marilyn Monroe and Buddy Holly on them, journals with clever phrases on the cover, aprons and cake-stands, crafty chairs with buttons on them and plush quilts on the cushions. There was a local artists paintings on the west wall, perfect for my kitchen, of cats and cutesy colorful images with the doodled painted "Good Morning" over the top - put me in a good mood to keep shopping the rest of the day. I can't believe I avoided going in there simply because of the coolness of this one woman years ago - it just goes to show how establishments can change even when the name stays the same. I also don't remember it being this cool, having this much STUFF in it - I found this amazing pendant I would die to have, things like that. Stuff is my FAVORITE place to be. We went backwards to Kansas City from a St. Louis wedding so I could go...and I went two days in a row. This place is loaded with the most artsy creative stuff I have ever seen. There is everything from home decor to jewelry to oddities you've just got to have. You need to go more than once because you are sure to miss something. I first went here three years ago. Husband was here for work and I went there every day after I dropped him off. Not only is the art beautiful and ecclectic to meet every whim but they will work with the artisit if you have something personal you want done-like the doggie things I want to get soon. This is my favorite store in Brookside, if for just browsing and looking through everything. I'm not an 'artist', when you come into Stuff, I think it makes everyone an artist because there is just so many different things and opportunities for you to create, and your imagination just seems to be seeping out of you. I also get so many great ideas just by stepping into this store- and I always leave feeling inspired and good about life, no matter what kind of day I was having beforehand. Besides all the sweet crafty and random STUFF, this store also holds classes to teach you how to make jewelry, scarfs, collages, mom/daughter items, so many more. They provide all the materials and even give you a snack while you are working. They also are part of several events, including 'Diva Day', and AIDS walk, and an event about raising breast cancer awareness, which means a lot to me because that runs in my family. Stuff is a locally owned store located in the heart of Brookside. The owners, Casey and Sloan, are about the nicest, big hearted, charitable and creative women you could ever hope to meet. The store is full of handmade artist/craft creations. It's a mix of stuff. Everything from soap to lawn chairs to jewelry and everything in between. It definitely fills the need of local, one-of-a-kind objects in this mass produced world we are living in. The merchandise can go from a country homemade feel to a really hip vibe at the same time. There is a little bit of stuff for everyone to buy, or at least be inspired by. The real tribute to Stuff is that they have heart. They have created a community. Because of their involvement with their clients, neighborhood and the general good of humanity, they are true members of the community of this city. As someone who likes more eclectic shops and handmade goods, this place just wan't my cup of tea. It wasn't bad, but it didn't knock my socks off, so I'm giving it three stars. Stuff seemed more like a "Mom" store with a bunch of things you'd see on Pinterest. Most of the jewelry was very large and chunky, so if you're into that, this is your shop. They had several cases with individual charms and beads to build your own necklace, too. Again, not my thing, but if it's yours, you're in luck. If you're a local, this place has a large selection of area rug samples you can take home to test in your space, then bring back to order the size you want. When a dude reviews STUFF it's generally because he's walked in and the staff has given him some astonishing suggestion for a thoughtful gift to get him out of the doghouse with his lady friend. Or special lady. Or whatever. While Stuff has (admirably) served that purpose in the past, this time was different. I can't tell you about what "style" of jewelry or knick-knacks or tchotchkes Stuff stocks because I honestly don't pay that kind of attention. So if you want specifics, read some other review. There are plenty. What you notice in Stuff is that it's the epitome of what Local Retail should be about. In a place like Brookside, where the Neighborhood Vibe (caps intentional) is important. And Stuff has it in spades. The shop is cozy and intuitively laid out. It's a place you LIKE to walk into. But the staff is what makes it an experience worth repeating. I was helped by a seriously dope-ass tagteam. Jess and Abby. Abby bears an uncanny resemblance to child actor Chloe Grace Moretz. But DON'T BE PUT OFF. She's got incredible knowledge of Stuff's myriad inventory options. I gave her a NOT SO EASY request and she fulfilled it with speed that I can only call Kryptonian. She helped me assemble an extraordinary gift for my girlfriend, who was facing the first anniversary of her sister's death. I wanted to give her something to help, not distract. Abby and Jess helped me make an amazing charm necklace for my girlfriend. I put things on it that would bring her sister to mind, and the happy memories that they created. Jess did a smidgeon of upselling and still sold me something USEFUL. And they were BOTH smartasses, personable, clever, and pleasant. You don't get that online. Fantastic store! A great place to go to for unique gifts, whether for yourself or others. ;-) Artistic eyes will be in heaven and find many sources of inspiration. You pretty much have to walk through at a snails pace slowly scanning up, down and all around because every nook is filled with fabulous treasures. Sometimes I walk in wanting to spend hundreds of dollars and other times I leave with nothing. There are often new artistic things on display so it really is just catching it on a day where one happens to speak to you. That said, if you are in there and you see something, grab it, do not wait, it may very well not be there when you return! As for prices, some are very reasonable and others are ridiculous. I think it has mostly to do with the artists and their price points as opposed to the store owners. It is definitely worth checking out whenever you are in the area! This place is an absolutely fantastic shop, with friendly people, filled with many random (but all pretty neat) pieces made by local artisans. We're talking soaps, jewelry, ornaments at Christmas time, small statues, whatever. Prices on some things are quite high, and others are super affordable. It's a great place to get gifts, or to buy some stuff for your own house, or to wear. This place was more of a museum than a shop, well, a museum for really insane, gorgeous and kooky art that makes you wonder, what inspired this? There is so much stuff at Stuff! I felt like my eyes were going into seizure shock, not knowing what to focus on first! And like any truly good art place, it inspired you to get creative. Instead of "how boring," it was more like "wow, I could do that too! I can make button flowers too!" Button flowers!? Who comes up with stuff like that? Really, this place is amazing.. And like Colleen mentioned, the staff is unbelievable at Stuff. Talk about people who love their jobs, my salesperson was ecstatic over their new shipment of hand dyed and decorated clothes from somewhere exotic (which were pretty amazing). They just beamed when someone asked a question, needed help or commented on how they loved something. That's an awesome indication of how this store is run. I definitely want to attend an art class at their store. They have a class in November making bracelets from found objects including buttons, game pieces, bottle caps, etc. Sounds like a whole lot of fun! read more

This is a beautiful artistic shop that has loads of humorous and inspirational treats for yourself or others. I bought a new journal there for an upcoming class I took. I wanted it to be beautiful and classy- not a high school spiral bound. There were many to choose from and I popped over next door for new pens at the Dime Store. The staff were friendly and welcoming, easy to talk to and gave the experience a feel of being with family or a close friend- caring is perhaps the best way to say it. The location has easy free parking and is in a great line of shops with great coffee shops nearby. I recommend coming here if you need a mood lift, a gift, or want to treat yourself. read more

This is another quirky and interesting store on 63rd. Lois and I always check out their offerings when we're on this street. They have funny dog related hats, which is what drew me in today, and beautiful and colorful mosaic wall art. The store is crowded w/ intriguing objects of all sorts, including "flower stalks" made of assorted buttons on wires, which are prettier than the description would suggest. Everywhere you look there's something to surprise and/or delight. read more

If there are more than 4 people in the store shopping, it's VERY crowded, or else people are so wrapped up in their own world they don't pay attention to others trying to look at items or move around them. I think things are a little overpriced, and yes, we could make many of the items, but would you? Stuff is fantastic! They have a lot of hand-made stuff, art, decorative objects and the like. Not all in my taste, but for what they do they do it extremely well. Where to begin? I usually come through here every December for holiday gifts for my wife. This year I brought my 4-year-old daughter, and despite the store being packed with shoppers, we were treated like royalty. My daughter happily munched on free cookies while the owner and her staff helped me find the perfect gift for my wife. It took about 25 minutes, which was no bother for me, yet the store gave me a very nice surprise "for being so patient." This is how customer service and custom-made products should be. Don't be deceived, dudes....this store is admittedly not the damnation for all men who have craft-loving wives (me). I can think of worse places to spend 20 minutes on a Saturday morning. The Brookside store front might look a bit too floral, be-dazzled, or decoupaged for the rough and gruff but when you step inside, you'll find tons of locally crafted art. Stuff is like a co-op of local artists. Each has it's specialty. Some of it is geared towards the ladies, like handmade jewelry but look past the femininity and you'll see great works of art like a painted canvas of the Crossroads neighborhood. You'll find license plate numbers for the house and even great gift ideas for the ladies in your lives. Stuff will always have a plethora of unique ideas while supporting our Kansas City artists. I almost don't want to review STUFF because I'm afraid if a bunch of people know about it, it'll get all crowded. But I love the place so much, I can't shut up about it. First of all, there's the merchandise. I can buy a gift for anybody here. I've tested it on men (straight ones, a group I never do well buying gifts for), relatives, coworkers, and even bosses. The thing that makes STUFF so special in my opinion though? The staff. I LOVE them. They're always patient, even when I am changing my mind 50 times about exactly which Winnie the Pooh quote I want on a bracelet (spoiler alert: I went with an Abraham Lincoln quote instead. It's a long story). The ambience is friendly and warm without being overly twee or precious. That's a rare thing in a retail environment as eclectic as STUFF is. The sisters came and spoke at our networking lunch and the next day I went to their store. I was warmly greeted by the staff. They were very attentive without being pushy.
