I like walking through the Plaza location, it's airy and interesting (although if you aren't a 50 year-old yuppie, don't hold your breath to be greeted at the door.) The prices go above and beyond what I'll be able to afford in bedding for the next 20 years, but a girl can dream can't she? I fell in love with this dreamy classic, romantic-looking cradle with a golden silk canopy draped around the four posts - for a regal baby with wealthy parents. The price tag is like $2,000, but it would look magnificent in a well-planned nursery, a mother's dream crib. Last time I was inside, I was all too coolly ignored...so bad in fact, I wondered why they spent so much effort ignoring some people and not others! And when I walked to the back of the store, I guess I caught their eye because one woman was sent to "check" on me...basically, to see if I was stealing. Oh yes! What I would have loved to take from the towel department (sarcasm)! Beyond this, Scandia Down is a place to escape in. It has beautifully detailed home pieces and a woman who enjoys decorating with an either exotic or old-fashioned flair (they somehow cover both tastes quite well) - would be happy to look around one day while window shopping on the Plaza.

The items at Scandia Down are very posh and over-priced. They have a delightful array of soaps,…read morehand towels, throw pillows and decorative, scented candles, but this is certainly not a place that inspires adjectives like "exciting." There are many objects that are quite lovely, but much of the bedding and decorative linens border on "dowdy" with floral patterns that are anything but youthful. My greatest praise for Scandia Down is for the bed frame that I purchased here. It sits holds the box springs a full 18-inches above the floor, making it possible for a grown man to climb under the bed if necessary. (Anyone who has ever tried to take a reluctant housecat to the vet knows how wonderful this feature might be!) Scandia Down has models of some of the charming metal bedframes on the floor, and a thick catalog from which a bed can be ordered in a variety of styles, sizes and finishes.

This is a really big story, very clean and organized inside. They have a huge bar and sitting area…read moreat the back end of the store. Throughout the store they have sections of many different brands and their products, mostly supporting local KC vendors. Among different types of goods they had apparels, cards, accessories, cups, mugs, candies, chocolates, caps, coasters, posters, home candles and much more. The prices were little higher since these are local made goods, but they were excellent quality. We bought some chocolate bars and cards from the store. The staff members were very friendly, assisted us with a quick and easy checkout.

The idea of domestically-manufactured items or, in this case, even made in Kansas City is intriguing. The store is nicely done. Sure there are tacky tchotchkes, but there is something for everyone. Anyway, I got a coffee. It was very good and the barista was friendly. My disappointment is rooted in the store's name and that some things are not only not made in KC, but are not made in America. It feels like a two-star outcome when the store name is held up to reality, but I'll hesitantly add the third with hope they redouble efforts to stock more items of domestic origin. Anyway, back to the parking situation - if you get wonderful parking beware there are some lookie-loos. I don't want to brand anyone suspicious, but even on a weekend morning there was a sense of character presence if you catch my drift.
