We went to customer service and asked if he could briefly use a charger so we could get his phone back on and pay. Liam told us no and wouldn't let us use one, even though other employees told us that using a charger at customer service was allowed. It honestly felt like Liam was being difficult for no reason. We weren't asking for anything unreasonable--we were literally trying to find a way to PAY for our items. A little understanding and basic customer service would have solved the whole situation in a few minutes. Instead, Liam made something simple unnecessarily frustrating. Definitely disappointed with how we were treated.

Yay, Daiso! I remember when Daiso came to California back in the early 2000s. Glad to see they're…read morehere in MN nowadays too. I was in the Woodbury Village shopping center for a Yelp Elite event at Sip Dirty Soda. When I drove up and saw there was also a Daiso, I had to make it one of my stops. I had a really great time browsing this location. It has a fairly large footprint and was well-lit and orderly. Daiso always seems to have a good selection of tempting goodies, and for the most part at very reasonable prices too! In particular I took note that some of the things I might have formerly purchased at Michaels (a craft store that as of late has gotten crappier since their main competition, Joann, went out of business... typical Capitalism move... ugh) are available here, and so in the future when I need craft items, scrapbooking supplies, or stationary, I'll probably make the trip to Daiso to give them my business instead. Also they have lots of fun Hello Kitty branded merch, as one might expect. Converting yen to USD is confusing at first, but they have lots of signage up on the aisles (as well as attached to each shopping basket) to help you. Unmarked items are at a set $2.25, which I'll admit, as someone with a lack of trust in price tags from prior bad experiences at other (non-Daiso) stores, I was anxious about all the way up to the register, watching as each item was scanned and came up at the correct low price (whew...). They even were giving away a free sticker sheet to shoppers who made a purchase. Easy way to win me over is with free stickers (I'm basically an 8 year-old). The employee was friendly to me. At any rate, I left with a lot of fun trinkets for just over $20, which really made my day. Also I was THRILLED to discover that they sell POG (if you know, you know) and other flavor varieties of the Hawaiian juice Aloha Maid. I crave the taste of Hawaii cuz of the lovely vacations I've taken there, but I had no idea you could get it on the mainland at Daiso for $1.50 a can! That's really not a bad price at all under the circumstances. Next time I'm in I'll likely intentionally stock up (yes, I'm a soda hoarder LOL).

So much for that visit. I drove along Grand Avenue to check out what was around the area. I saw Paper Source. It reminded me of a store in Winnipeg that I used to frequent. It was called The Paper Gallery. I loved it so much. If you are the type who loves stationery, greeting cards, pens, pencils, and more, you'd love this store. Paper Source gave me the same vibes. I turned around and parked on the street. It was free parking. Great! I walked into the store. My instincts were correct. The store had pens, pencils, greeting cards, and a lot of gift ideas. In short, I was in heaven! A post-Christmas sale greeted me. I saw ornaments, cards, and more all discounted. I did see the cutest felt penguin that was on sale, but the price after the sale didn't justify my getting it. I loved the pen section. From cute dog pens, to fountain ones, there was a pen for everyone. I ended up getting a disposable fountain pen. It writes well and it's the perfect size to carry in a small purse. Yet, it's the right size to write with if you have big hands. The plushies were adorable and deadly. I saw everything from avocados, to tacos. I loved the cookbooks. I wanted them all. I liked the one dedicated to soup. There were also book titles that made me crack up. If you can't think of anything to get someone as a gift, I'm pretty sure that you can find something in this store. I saw satin pillow cases, drinkware, candles, Spirograph, and more. If you're into sending cards, you can get extremely fancy by getting inkpads and stamps. I was into stamping in high school. It was nice to see how stamping has improved, but is still the same, if that makes any sense. I ended up also getting a sticky note dispenser in the shape of a typewriter. I have always loved typewriters, so I had to get it. I waited for a staffer to come to the payment area. She was pleasant and was helping another customer. I am a patient person who was not in a rush this day, so I was good. She came over and was extremely apologetic. She rang my items through her payment system. She then asked me whether I was a Paper Source, or Barnes and Noble rewards member. She uttered such magical words. I was the latter. It felt like Christmas. She let me know that my membership got me 10% off everything at the Paper Source. She also said that yearly, I get a premium tote for free. It's funny how I had eyed this tote when I first walked in. She showed me the pockets and keychain hook inside the bag that sold me. I loved it so much because the canvas thickness was perfect and it felt soft to the touch. I actually used this bag as my personal item on my flights home because it was more spacious than my purse and I could bring back more goodies! I paid with a credit card. I tapped and my transaction was done. She asked if I wanted my items in the bag. I said yes. I thanked this woman. She wished me a great day. I reciprocated and left with my new bag and goodies. I had a fun experience here. It's great when your original plans don't pan out, but you find a new store that you end up loving. (26)

I asked if they had Grinch ornaments in. The one I picked was $27.99 but with tax I knew I'd be at the $30 threshold to use the coupon. It worked and my ornament was $20 and change. Way overpriced but I like the Grinch and you couldn't use the coupon on sale or clearance stuff. I did get a $5 coupon to use after Aug 1st. Maybe I'll get the German Shepherd towel. I was tempted to get one, but I truly didn't need it. I like how fancy cupcake carriers are getting. Hey, you have to protect precious baked goods when they are on the move. I enjoyed looking at the cell phone accessories, too. There was a cute Mickey Mouse case for an iPhone. It's unfortunate that there isn't a whole lot for Google Pixel phones. Since it's a Marshalls-HomeGoods combo store, they share the same checkout area. It comes in handy when you are purchasing merchandise from both. I like this store. I'd come back again. (110)
