Eagle Ridge Mall opened on February 22, 1996 with 80 stores, a carousel, an ice skating rink, and…read moreanchor stores that included Sears, JCPenney, and Dillard's. The grand opening of the 100 million dollar, 624,000 square-foot mall attracted 3,700 people within the first 30 minutes and 22,000 shoppers celebrated the new mall throughout the day. Throughout the ensuing years the mall has faced challenges like the sinkhole that developed beneath a children's play area and a second hole beneath an area of the Sears store in 1998. In 2009, the economic downturn led to then-owner, General Growth Properties, filling for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It was reportedly the largest real estate bankruptcy in U.S. history at the time. The Sears store closed in late 2016, and JCPenney closed in June 2020, leaving Dillard's as the sole remaining original anchor store. After Covid there were only 40 businesses left in the mall. While the two anchor stores remain vacant, management has managed to increase the number of businesses to over 70. These include Regal 12 Cinema, the Lake Wales Bowl, with Strikes Bar and Grill, and the El Pilón Loko Puerto Rican restaurant adjacent to the food court. There is also a bounce house park play area for $12. While the mall looks like it has been through it I really loved my visit. it felt like a throwback to the 80's. There were some really unique stores and the carousel in the food court was absolutely beautiful. Where some people see a dump, I see a reminder of a simpler time. Don't write this old girl off yet.

Amazing experience with this place ,far exceeded our expectations. We made reservations for the…read more11AM ( first opening) and we were happy that we did. Parking was free and ample. Directions to the restaurant were clear from the street with good signage. One may call this an upscale tea room/ brunch: indulging dessert experience; depending on how you order. We skipped our breakfast to make room for the experience and we were not disappointed. Seating and decor was British colonial setting. The food was delicious and prepared well. The desserts were decadent and the TEA service was exotic. The food ordered was pasta Florentine and (rich and creamy goodness), blackened mahi over mango salsa was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Quiche was not bad . Mediterranean platter came with humus, roasted eggplant and Tabbouleh. Eggplant was sharp in flavor. Chai was served full of flavors and spices; green ginger tea flavorful and needed time to get to full strength. Raspberry in Paris Rooibos was naturally sweet and well scented. For the desserts we ordered strawberry scones with clotted cream, Italian wedding cake, hummingbird and the chocolate ganache. They were large portions and decadent. Importantly the owner made sure to accommodate us on the menu and was quick to respond to any issues. Isabel and Carline were exceptionally gracious host. Explore the grounds and gift shop on premises and savor your experience. Godwilling your experience is like ours and better.

We also thought we'd get a tea to go. Stopped into the gift shop and browsed. Cute shop! We went in and inquired about high tea but was told that they aren't sure when they'll have just yet and to check back on the website. They also didn't have tea to go. So a little disappointed but the place is beautiful and one day we will be able to try it.

Let's set the record straight from the start - this is a deep discount grocery store. It isn't…read morePublix, Winn Dixie, WalMart or even Piggly Wiggly. Nope, this is a store in a run-down strip mall that specializes in selling close-to or out-of-date items. Looking for fancy shelving and floors so clean you can eat off them? Go elsewhere. It's obvious this has been at least a couple of other stores long before this company showed up. What you get is a neatly stacked store with items that seem to vary depending upon what they get at any given time. Buy when you see it or possibly lose out. Is some of it outdated? You betcha. However, there is a catch with those manufacturer dates - they are made up. I recently discovered there are very little federal or state regulations concerning those dates; however, manufacturers know you'll ditch something out of fear even if the can or product still looks good. Today I found RC sugar-free cola, 12 pack cans, for $2. In case you're wondering, Walmart has them on "sale" for $5.88. Tastes the same but now I can get 36 cans instead of 12. And how about the Clorox misting spray refill at $1? It sells for $6.78 at Walmart. Now I can get nearly 7 for the price of 1. This list goes on. Since I buy only those items in cans or sealed bottles, I can't comment on the meats, bagged crackers and bread; however, if you consume those perishable items quickly you should be okay. In fact, I have a friend who buys his meats here and cooks them on the grill the same day. He loves the place for the cheap pricing. Staff is attentive and friendly, an oddity given the low bucks nature of the store, but don't let the looks of the store bother you. Like I stated, if you're a neat freak, go elsewhere. As you might imagine, they don't take coupons but they do accept credit cards. If you want deals galore, come here and come often!
