Welcome to Shoptober! NYC has no shortage of dollar stores. Whether for cheap goods, no-name food items, or a slice of pizza, they fulfill an economic niche. For such an expensive city, these stores cater to the underserved, the frugal and the tight-budgeted. You see lots of mom & pop 99 cent stores, Family Dollars & Dollar Generals all over the map, but Dollar Tree is probably the most prolific. These are the current generation of the old five & dimes like Woolworth's and Lamston's. Almost everything in Dollar Tree is priced at a dollar, though there are pricier items. If the price is not marked, then it defaults to $1. I find that this store is more organized and well managed than others I've shopped and I can always get a spot in the parking lot. The seasonal section is always well stocked whether it's for 4th of July, Halloween, Thanksgiving or Christmas. I like to browse the arts & crafts aisle, picking up random paint brushes, jars and pallettes for my hobbies. I even got a bunch of small cutting mats for a $1 each where you might pay up to $10 or more at Michael's. You'll also find me browsing the hardware, kitchenware and office & party supplies aisles. The toys aisle is always a mess no matter how many people they have fixing it up. Kids, ugh. You might not find big name brand items here, but you can always find something useful for a really low price. $1 spice shakers, anyone? And would you trust a $1 pregnancy test? A couple of weeks ago I was trapped in a check out line for about 15 minutes. Every time I go, i joke around to myself- saying I'd be able to get the lines down in minutes. Last week, I was serious. I noticed the structure of the store, the people, and felt like I can be a great addition to the team. I called this morning after applying as assistant manager a couple of days ago to see if they're still hiring. A woman answers the phone. I say "GoodMorning"- she cuts me off and says "THE STORE IS CLOSED WE NOT OPENING UNTIL FEBRUARY". I continue to tell her I'm just checking on the status of my application. She almost cut me off again to repeat herself. Just turned me completely off. Hints the reason why I applied and wanted to help this store specifically. If the store is getting remodeled, I hope the manager remodels her attitude as well. read more

Expect to wait on line for atleast 30+ minutes every time you come here. Always lines to the back of the store. Customers and staff cursing eachother out on a daily basis. Extremely messy. I have to admit this dollar tree has a nice frozen food section. They have some really good golden crust beef patties. And jerk chicken patties, but my favorite is the golden crust jamaican style beef patties for $99 cents. You get that same golden crust taste from the 99 cent store. You may not be able to get that many because they cant keep them in the store that long because everyone is buying them .let me tell you a story. I was Inside the frozen food section and I was on my way over to get me some beef patties and a women got their before me .she grabbed the whole box ,I was devastated she didn't even have a shopping cart she just snatched the box. So if you like golden crust beef patties or chicken patties. You should be able to get them at any branch. read more

This is the nicest Dollar Tree I've visited to date, and I've been to quite a few across several states along the seaboard and midwest. It was organized, clean, visible floor staff and had some really nice things on offer. Now mind you...this is my first visit and maybe its this nice because of the holidays but judging from what I see...I'll try to come back this way. read more

Everything is literally $1. This location has its own parking lot which is great since you will find it in a very difficult parking area of Jamaica. A pretty large Dollar tree. They have a good seasonal selection, all $1 in case you're wondering. Every major holiday has a section in Dollar tree for it. A great selection of seasonal candies and regular chocolates/candies. You will find an array of freezers stocked with frozen foods ($1 if you forgot). Home supplies, kitchen supplies, birthday supplies, cards for all occasions, hair products, bath products, cleaning products, balloons are all found here. ($1!!!) Lines can get crazy long and a pretty long wait at lines during peak hours. Lunch hours, weekends seem to be pretty busy times. I love having this place so conveniently located to where I work. I've stopped paying full price for things years ago. It doesn't make any sense to spend retail price when you can get merchandise at a discounted one. I will never ever pay full price for anything. Dollar Tree offers so much for less. From quality products to something you may get two to three uses out of. Who cares you're not paying full price for it anyway. If you're looking for candy this is the place to go. If you're looking for pots and pans come here. How about toiletries? Hungry...need a microwaveable or oven ready meal? This is the place to come. It's in a great location. Ample amount of parking in the lot. Also there's plenty of buses that run by it or not too far from it. The Q30, Q31, Q4, Q5, Q85 & the N4. I come here to pick up little knick knacks for my apartment & birthday cards. Their cards are $1! You cannot beat that. They have a nice array of cards. They don't look cheap or give off that .99€ vibe. I like Dollar Tree because when I don't feel like going to my neighborhood grocery store this works as a great backup!! I have loved Dollar Tree since first discovering one back in Virginia and when I moved back to NYC, I was happy to see that they had Dollar Tree here too. I like that I can go into the store and find various name brand items for $1 and other no name cleaning items, etc. I'll overlook only having one register open or the store being small. It's hard to disappoint me at a Dollar Tree pretty much. This one while it gets an A for size and stock, gets a huge F for the extremely long lines. I stopped in here last night to pick up a cleaning liquid and right off the bat I'm asked for my bag of books. A pet peeve of mine which is usually why I will make an effort to avoid certain stores in Downtown Jamaica. When I later went to collect my bag, the lady looked confused and apprehensive to return my bag to me. Almost like she thought I was lying about my canvas bag - the only red bag there - being mine. Second, they had lines so long it was overflowing into the aisles and they then came over the loud speaker asking people at registers 4, 5 and 6 to step over to register 2 thus closing those 3 registers and leaving only 2 registers open. The other shoppers didn't hear it but I did and stepped over to register 2 before noping out of there after 5 minutes of no movement. I need to try going in the early morning or later at night closer to closing time. My local Dollar Tree has long lines too as times but nothing compared to this place and this location has more registers and workers. So yeah, not a good experience this time around. Be ware: unless you pay off the store they will have your car towed. Witnessed numerous folks leave there car in private parking literally all day. Made a purchase and then left for an hour to go to one other store in the area. They select which cars to tow lot but apparently you pay off the store to park their car here or if you don't the store gets a kick back from the tow company - I asked the worker and his response so what if I do. Let me start by saying that this is a very well maintained store.. My issue is how the manager ripped each employee about how things were placed on the floor. Her exact words were "I need you to tell me where this makes sense". and "tell her to come back here and tell me what sense this makes". "I'm tired of saying the same thing to you"...Blah blah blah. All conversations that should not take place in the presence of customers. She spoke to each staff member in a demeaning tone. I was embarrassed for them. The manager should understand that the employees are a corporate asset and she should treat them as such. Just as she is pleasant to customers, she should be pleasant to her employees. When employees feel undervalued, it reflects in their work. Maybe she is the issue, not the employee's with ethics. read more

The person behind the registrar in the morning is rude and have bad customer service skills I would not recommend this location

As a teacher there are certain things I like to buy in bulk and certain things I just need one or two off. This store gives me the opportunity to do both at the same time. There are tons of occasional things for holidays, tons of kids friendly things- toys, books, stickers (personal fav). I find myself coming here and getting things my students don't even need but for a dollar? Why not?! There is also a variety of house hold and misc items that I could use for around my classroom. In addition! There is a food section, you can get canned goods, Lots of snacks and some frozen foods as well. This store just has such a wide variety of things, you can knock lots off your shopping list at one time. Almost, ALMOST! everything is a dollar. I give this store two stars 1 for parking 2 for price. I am unable to to give they other 2 because of customer service the manger Nicole was rude to all customers Saturday Dec. 8th. We asked if she was open twice her response was not called for her tone was rude. She continue to speak of us the customers to another employee her words " you know it Saturday you know how they are always wanting something I can't with THESE PEOPLE" us on the line had to say something where's the manager she says "I am the manager now what" she continued with her blunder. Someone at the back of the line told her she's being rude she said something under her breath. My statement to her is she's in the wrong field of work customer services isn't her your calling. But she continued with me and other customers. Its no time to lose your job but I believe she needs to have some humble pie. read more

This is my favorite discount store and my favorite Dollar Tree location! They have all the name brand beverages like Coke, Sprite, Welch's (the big sizes lol) and more for A DOLLAR! I come in here with a $10 budget but because everything is a dollar I see no harm in spending $25 every visit. I get double packs of NAME BRAND tooth brushes, makeup, Benzac acne wash, body wash, Cinnabon snacks and even household cleaning products. This location can have a line at times but for the prices (cant be beat) I dont mind the wait. They also have the best name brand selection compared to the locations on Supthin Blvd and Merrick Blvd. Dollar Tree is the place to be when you ballin on a budget! read more

This location is very spacious, well organized, neat and well stocked with an abundance of items. This location actually has items that other locations do not have. The cons about this location are: They ask for your bag at the door even if it's a backpack. The lines are really long even though they have several cashiers. Cashiers are responsible for inflating balloons if customer purchases them which then makes the wait even longer. Someone else should do that. read more

The good, the price is really good if you can find what you need. If you are a struggling student, if you are on a fixed income or have to look carefully about what spend your money on, I would say check it out. Good size selection not too bad. They have food, and cleaning supplies, stuff to waste your clothes, personal care and generally school supplies. The bad, store was messy, most of the food was not healthy, then again it is not like they would have organic food. I am updating my review in regards to a rude, disrespectful employee that I had to deal with this afternoon. I visit this store on a weekly basis having to wait on EXTREMELY LONG LINES going into the middle of the store at times with other employees walking around laughing as if it is nothing. The employee had no name tag on but she is described as an elderly West Indian lady with glasses. I, along with a few other customers were told " EVERYONE.... YOU NEED TO COME TO THE NEXT LINE NOW " I decided not to being that I was slightly frustrated by the weekly wait to check out at this store and wanted to avoid any confrontation with the service rep. I did say politely that the cashier did not have a problem with ringing up my items as the last person before she leaves...only to be told : YOU CAN PUT YOUR STUFF THERE IF YOU WANT TO BUT SHE WON'T BE CHECKING YOU OUT "....THAT IS HOW IT IS GOING TO BE AND THAT'S IT! ". A bit of advice to upper management moving forward into 2017: Please train your current associates on how to give better customer service with a welcome, assist people in the aisle without just giving a head nod to the next aisle, thank us for coming because if it were not for us shopping here...they would not receive a paycheck. I guess for $1.00 in the entire store the quality and lack of customer service is what we deserve in their minds... read more

First I must say I like shopping dollar tree stores, but I had the worst experience at the store on Archer Jamaica..my visit to the store about 12:30 PM June 13 2019 upon walking in the store I heard a worker shouting at at customer in which that had drawn my attention thinking she was rude anyway I didn't make it my business and continue to shop, after picking up my few items I went to the cashing counter while waiting inline,I see another customer approach the same worker saying something to her and she went off on the customer,I couldn't hear what the customer was saying but base on what the worker was replying to I realize the customer was asking to exchange something at that time I realized the worker is the manager,anyway that get resolve after the customer endure the MANAGER rudeness...after all that there was an old lady at the cash register paying for her item the cashier and the old lady both speak a little English so there was an issue the old lady total was $43 but she was say she gave the cashier $53 instead so the mighty manager came over start cursing the lady to come out her store and take back her items throw them back in a shopping basket take the $43 threw it on the counter to the lady now that wasnt resolve because the poor old lady only can afford to push her cart and purchase stuff at the dollar tree and that store was the only convenient for her now she is being deprived of her items and the MANAGER told her she should not come back to the store,this manager has no managing skills and she is very rude..for less than 1hour I was in that store she was being rude to three customers and I'm sure by the end of the day it maybe more...we as customers goes to shop we deserve to be treated with respect..I think miss manager is to ghetto for her position or she is abusing power. read more
