Walking into this Family Dollar felt like walking into a dimly lit basement instead of a stepping into a store. I know it's a discount store so I obviosuly don't expect a five- star ambiance, but even with that in mind this place seems so depressing and draining. The customer service was terrible as well, compared to other family dollars that I have visited, I know what the basic customer service is. That's why when I went to this Family Dollar I was completely caught off guard. I came in simply to buy some Halloween candy, nothing more. The moment I approached the counter, the cashier looked at me like I was a suspect in a crime. Without hesitation, he asked me to show my pockets and laughed saying "Are you sure you're not taking anything?". That was like a slap on the face. I walked in planning to originally spend money but came out feeling unwelcome and insulted. Some time at the beginning of November, 2024, Me a man was looking at bobby pins, for DIY project at home that required them. I aslo look at some other products, on the same aisle.. such as tweezers, nail file, and an additional pair or weird looking tweezers. I understand this type of items are normally shopped by females. But Im a single man. I went to the next aisle and look at some small pencil bags, and small makeup bags. That's when a male employee comes screaming "does anyone need help", AFTER asking three times, he then said looking in my direction, "sir do you need any help"... i said no. Prior to the opening of Family Dollar this location used to be a Genovese Drug Store, not to be confused with the Genovese Crime Family. There's no association. Once Genovese was sold to JC Penny only a few stores remained. After that it was rebranded and operated as a Rite Aid Pharmacy. Now we have Family Dollar. So much has changed since I was employed here as a teenager. Now that I think about it my friends from my old neighborhood were also employed here as well. That's when Family Dollar first hit the scene and slowly became popular. I like Family Dollar because it's a small step above a 99¢ store and their prices are reasonable. You can find everything in here from cleaning products, household items, personal care, auto, hardware, outdoors items, electronics, office supplies, school supplies, party supplies, toys, clothes, pet supplies, food, beverages, snacks, baby items, beauty care, as well as health and wellness items. The gripe I have with this particular Family Dollar is that there's always one, and I mean only one cash register open. The setup of this place is horrible. You'll never be able to find a shopping cart for heavier items and if you see a cart run and grab it. They may have 5 or 6 baskets, but who has time to lug around their items? read more

This family dollar is always a drag to go to. I have it two stars bc it's gotten me out of a jam on many occasions. Still, the lines are always long and slow, backed up. Employees are not the most competent and items are usually half open/used or shelves not fully stocked. Go for price not for customer service or product quality. read more

On November 14 time 4pm there were a family dollar employee name Jamel that was so out of order he was rude to me months ago, so when I just seen him today at the register an no other cashier was available I had no choice but to go to him I dread going to this cashier he started off with hello I didn't answer trying to be in and out with him due to him being rude previously months ago with me, than he said why the look on your face I said please don't worry about my face just do the job please wooooo it escalated to oh you not going to degrade me than he started to tell me to suck his penis numerous times call me numerous BITCHES than said he will spit in my face and the store had plenty of customers I hope someone recorded this freak show in family dollar on union turnpike and 149st! I come here to buy some affordable things for my family. They have a good selection of baby stuff. However, the diapers aren't too cheap. I can find cheaper diapers at Walmart. The wipes are cheap and the distilled water for the formula. They have a wide selection of necessities which comes in handy. They have decent priced hair products and feminine products. Its a big pretty big store and yes it is tight. However, this is Queens guys! Get used to it lol. I don't know if the parking lot next door belongs to them but its tight in the lot. The prices on the shelf are different when you get up to the cash register always more! On May 12 at night I went in there and the cashier was busy talking on her cell phone with a her earpiece I told her that the item was $.50 cheaper on the shelf she just disregarded what I said and charged me $.50 more with an attitude! They have all the garbage on the sidewalk with metal pieces of the containers laying on the sidewalk where anybody could trip I'm surprised nobody broke a leg yet. The store is in total disarray I cannot believe there's no management there it's just disgraceful for the neighborhood. When you first enter the store the outside walls and gates are a disaster. What a fantastic place to buy your secondary needs! Across the street are the DePaul apartments for St. John's grad/law students, scattered abound are local residents, and about three blocks east is me, also a grad student. The Family Dollar store is a great staple for your (mostly disposable) needs. Observe: Where else can I buy a full-length mirror for $6 that I can just easily carry back to my apartment? Upon further inspection, said mirror slowly starts to develop a concave over time. For quite a while, I thought my ass and thighs were blossoming into a Beyonce-curvaceousness. And then slowly, I thought I was becoming Homer Simpson around the mid-section. But no! Needless to say, someone else will be the happy owner of this instrument of optical illusion come graduation. I also come here for most, if not all, of my cleaning supplies. Detergent, sponges, straws (they keep my teeth cleaner), Febreze, Glade scented plug-ins, antibacterial soap, Clorox wipes, and most essentially, toilet paper. But here is where the value of this emporium comes in: the price tags delineate price-per-unit for each product. For example, instead of meditating over the cost-benefit of toilet paper - because really, do you need velvet to wipe your ass? - you can easily look about a centimeter down and they tell you the price per square foot of each package. My last adventure in the dollar store ended with me standing by a register waiting for the 2 cashiers to finish a conversation as i stared at them with tears in my eyes. I like this store because I always find a good deal on many items. It is not a bad place to shop when you can not find certain items in the area...and for cheap too! Cheap things. It's hit or miss whether they will have what you need. Ran out of squirt guns rather quickly this summer. After waiting five minutes on the shorter line cashier line behind a woman buying a whole shopping cart of goods in this un airconditioned store (sweating , thank you) the cashier looks at me and tells me this is not ''the line" and that i have to get on the back of the line to the other cashier which got alot longer while i had been standing there waiting. I pointed this out to the clerk who just continued to tell me to get to the back of the line. I asked the manager to remedy the situation but he was in cahoots with the clerk and another store woalker who were sitting around doing nothing during this whole five minute wait.. I lost my temper to no avail and was refused service. This is a terrible store but ive been going there for over 8 years cause its close to my home and has a few items on sale i can' not find in other local stores for less than 300 percent price, like aspirin, soda, etc. I will not shop there again and recomend no one else does.. the workers seem to be prison release inmates and never work there for more than a month at a time. Eeesh! My family refers to this place as Family Squalor; it's even worse since a recent "renovation" that's made aisles utterly cramped with merchandise that's uncaringly thrown all over the place. Let's face it gang: The customer base here added to poor management added to really cheesy bottom-of-the-barrel merchandise equals utter last resort. I have been shopping in this store since it opened decades ago. I also frequent Family doolar by my 2nd home in Pa. I have never had such terrible customer service before by the manager (Aurelia ) You have ALL detergent for $7 (94.5 oz.) in your flyer, which I saw on my computer. It rang up as $8.75 in your store. The clerk asked the manager for a flyer, her answer being we don't have any. When I asked if she could look it up on her computer, the manager said "no, we cannot use our computer as it is discouraged by the company due to personal usage. I stated her use is not to go to personal websites, but to your own. She shrugged me off and said I will not do that and I cannot help you. The register clerk had an ashamed look on her face as the manager could not even approach me personally, just saying NO from up the aisle.
