As someone who constantly works with children, Dollar Tree stores have always been a favorite of mine.
I found this location and realized they had a greater variety than the location I normally visit, so I came back to buy some spring items before they sell out.
I noticed 3 things:
1. Dollar tree is becoming more of a dollar general and stocking shelves with items that are now $3 or $5, and the items that were formerly $1 are now $1.25. 25 cents isn't much, but it adds up unexpectedly when you've got a cart full.
2. The staff are really sweet here.
3. The location is a little sketchy and there are A LOT of homeless people around.
It was kind of messy inside today and I had to keep moving boxes out of the way to push my cart through. At one point someone approached me, I thought coming to help move the boxes, but he said he was homeless and hungry.
He stared at me moving the boxes and asked several times when I would buy him food.
I told him I needed change first after shopping but he kept asking if I was almost done.
I don't mind sharing what I have to feed the hungry, but this encounter made me feel uncomfortable. After I changed aisles, the man left and I didn't see him anymore.
I left quickly after. read more
