As other Yelpers have mentioned, it does feel like this location could benefit from having more cashiers at the registers since the line can get pretty long. I stopped by to pick up a card and some birthday decorations. They have great prices for gift bags, tissue paper, and balloons. I didn't realize helium wasn't allowed in Encinitas so this location doesn't offer festive or holiday helium balloons like others do. So that was a little disappointing but we found a substitute. What doesn't a Dollar Tree have? You can find almost everything. Never the best quality of things but always in stock. This one is no different. They are selling bogus gift cards! I bought a $50 vanilla brand Visa gift card for my daughter. When she went to use it it had a Starbucks invalid gift card inside and a fake printed paper on the back to look like the back of a Visa card! This looked to be very professionally done. I'm only guessing, but seeing as there are more complaints about Vanilla brand gift cards, these may made by the store/vanilla co. I let the Mgr of the store know and he gave me the number of the owner, whom I called and gave her all info including pictures. This was 2 weeks ago and she's ghosted me! Glad to have a Dollar Tree store nearby. I can find snack items, party supplies and seasonal decor at Dollar Tree prices. The employees are friendly and I can recall several years back when I left my wallet in a shopping cart. When I returned to the store, the manager told me that a customer returned the wallet and he drove out to my address to try to return it to me. Unfortunately, I wasn't at home. When visiting the mainland dollar tree is our go to for necessities, toys, crafts, and makeup preferably lashes. Went to this location and was very happy with the in-stock and variety of things this dollar tree had to offer. I went to another one in carlsbad and was pretty disappointed. The staff was very nice and greeted me when I entered. Parking was very easy. The only con I had was that there's always 1 cashier that rings up everyone and the line does get pretty long. If the store could get a backup cashier to help with the long lines it would make this much better. read more

Better than Five O', It's kinda like the 99 cents store. Me and my friend walked down to a nearby Dollar tree by his house. I went into there deciding either to buy a drink, wafers, chips, or a frozen treat. Everything there is $1-5 once you walk in. I bought a frozen Minute Maid Orangeade and Brim Cheeto Puffs and the next day I ate the whole bag at my house without my mom and dad knowing. I am the type of kid that sort of eats the whole bag and package of my favorite snacks ranked. They have less toys and more food. It was a quiet service once me and my friend came to check out. It was a 5 minute wait to get out of the store and bounce. All of a sudden, we see this homeless guy (I might be wrong about that) But the guy was walking into the store who is wearing black sandals and old rusty black sweatpants and a grey jacket, I cannot believe the Employees treated the guy with the upmost respect and not even hitting him with a broom. Me and my friend were confused looking over the other checkout line in the front by the doors. It kinda feels like a Candyland once you walk into the Dollar tree store because Easter Szn is coming up. But I definitely think Dollar Tree might be a way better choice than Five O', All the prices at the Dollar tree are less cheaper than having a high expense of money at other big shopping stores. read more

My daughter and I love shopping at the Dollar Tree when we see a store nearby. This was located next to TJ Maxx. Cool! As we walked in, there were so many cool things such as trinkets, stuff for the home, school supplies, snacks and drinks. I can go on and on. There were even cute shopping bags you can use to go shopping with instead of getting charged the 10 cents. I happened to use one of the bags when I bought some stuff here. My daughter saw Pop Rocks candy so I got two bags of those, hair ties for her hair, two bags, a red and purple one, activity books for my daughter, etc. I ended up paying $13 and some change. Not bad since everything was a dollar. I definitely liked this store. So much to choose from. Checking out was easy and fast. The guy would open up a register when the line was long. I went to Dollar tree @ 218 N. El Camino Real in Encinitas on 3/7/21 around 4:30 . Sales associate, Jenny was extremely rude. She shouldn't be working around people. Maybe she didn't get any! My total was $4.31 and gave a $20 and I was trying to get the 31 cents but she said it was too late and it was whatever the computer said. I told her that I was trying to get the change and all she had to do is add 31 & 69 to get another dollar cuz I didn't want change. She said she couldn't. I asked, you can't add simple math? It has nothing to do with the computer. She is so ignorant! First, you don't treat customers like that. Second, it's a cash register, not computer. Third, she doesn't know how to not be rude. not all dollar stores are the same....i used to go to the 99 cent only store...and now i have seen the light... Dollar Tree is like a classy 99 cent store...pretty much the same stuff...but clean, organized and well stocked. The staff is even able to help you and answer questions! i made the mistake of stopping in at 99 only last night...ugh...a bunch of crap and some stuff and some things are $2! I love love love the dollar tree! I get a lot of party and seasonal decorations here. And why not, everything is just ONE DOLLAR!! It's a win win for me. If you want seasonal decorations you do have to get to the store as soon as the goods come in!!! Usually the minor holidays everything arrives a month before the holiday but Christmas usually shows up in September or early October. The quality of the decorations is not as good as Michaels or Home goods but for the cost, you can't beat it. They offer more than just decorations though, they have greeting cards, gift wrap and gift bags, canned and frozen food, kid toys, balloons(with free helium), ceramic plates, glasses, make up and nail polish! They really offer even more than this but you get the idea, it's a store that has a ton of stuff for very little money! They also do a lot of donations to "Operation home front" which is where you donate a dollar or two and they help supply military families with school supplies. Well stocked and fairly organized. Admittedly, I'm not the regular at dollar/$.99 stores so I don't see substantial differences between the various chains. I can say that this one has a ton of school/office supplies, household items, and party supplies. It doesn't seem to have much in the way of groceries-- just an aisle of cookies/crackers/canned goods and several refrigerators in the back of the store. Most of the stuff seems to be a pretty good bargain- I stocked up on school supplies, including baby wipes that were a big travel pack for $.99 that elsewhere usually goes for about $3. I also purchased some school folders which in retrospect were overpriced- ($1 for two paper folders-- that were $.15 ea at Staples) I realize that overspending at a dollar store isn't a big deal, but isn't the reason for going there is to feel like you got an amazing deal? I do want to remember to come back here when I need party supplies- a fraction of the cost of what things are at the party planning stores! read more

The Dollar Tree is the total "go to" for arts and crafts... Hands down. I've made so many Popsicle and paper maché creations with Dollar Tree as a total life saver. This is your one stop shop for construction paper, glue, GLITTER, oh how I love thee glitter!! I buy gift bags, tissue paper, boxes, you name it, craft wise, I buy it. ;) And for the record, they absolutely have everything under the sun you can think of... This was my first time in this store and I have to say, I'm pretty impressed. I made an online purchase for 17" snowflakes I found on their website through a quick Google search (http://www.dollartree.com/Jumbo-Acrylic-Snowflake-Ornaments-17-/p36750/index.pro). Most items on the site are listed in bulk and require minimums but thankfully in this case, the 24 that came in the case was exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, there isn't a bulk discount but certainly still a great price. Rather than pay $10 in shipping, I had the option to pick it up in-store and it worked out great because I didn't even know there was a Dollar Tree 5 miles away from me. I was notified by email when my shipment was available for pick up and the process was pretty painless upon check out. Before I checked out, I walked around the store to see what they had and discovered that the sell the snowflakes separately so it's good to see if I needed more, they're there. In fact, I ended up ordering another box rather than purchasing individually because the box it came with is perfect for storing these delicate items. I'll likely check this store out when needing to pick up little inexpensive trinkets when in search of specific items but hopefully that won't be too often...I'm running out of storage space. = ) read more

This store is actually very well stocked and organized and I was able to grab what I needed. However, you won't find a single employee in the shop. Up and down the aisles I go- no one. Just one (very friendly) poor guy working all by himself at the front register. He called for back up but no one came (hence my tip of 6 people standing in line). I've worked retail before and I know how frustrating it can be when you are backed up and no one comes to help. I really wish I knew his name so I could give him a shoutout here because he was so kind and very hardworking. Parking lot is a zoo. I mean, we got here around noon on a Thursday and there was no parking. What's up? I thought kids were back in school and people have jobs, no? This location is near my house and it great when I need a simple gift or a frame for a friend, but I really wish their employees would really help out the people in their stores. I was being rung up yesterday by a lady and all she did was talk to the guy who was standing near the register, I don't think he worked there because it wasn't in the green polo they have to wear, and all they did was talk about how one of their girls had to get a new car. The girl who was checking me out at the register didn't say a SINGLE WORD to me at all and made me bag my own items into my bag. A simple, "Hi, How is your day going?" or even "Thank you for shopping here." would have been great but literally, I felt like trash on the side of the road. Sad. read more

And I mean hidden in the figurative sense because it is hard to miss those green neon letters from Encinitas Blvd. If you're in the market for cheap goodies (i.e. back to school, great kitchen and bathroom needs, kid or pet accessories, Halloween/Christmas decor, etc), THIS is the dollar store to go to in Encinitas. As far as dollar stores go, this one is 5 star. Probably the nicest one I've ever been to. I come here for art/craft supplies that would otherwise cost 6 times as much at Michael's. If your kid has a project for school, this is a great place to get materials...they have cheap foam board, poster board, 3 panel science boards, notecards, and a ton of other stuff. There is a small kids craft section, but I've found the best items just roaming around and re-purposing things. It is silly to buy giftwrap or gift bags anywhere but here. They have a good selection, and your bag will not be quickly outed as "The ugly dollar store bag." I promise. They have a good selection. In the front there is a section of seasonal items that are well stocked. Teachers have a lot of options for room decor, stickers, posters, etc. Their items look great and on a teacher budget, they are a perfect fit. read more

How could I have not reviewed this place? I'm a regular here to get toothpaste. Six ounces for a buck is a steal, and plackers, the lazy man's contemporary toothpick. I will first start by saying that previous reviews are correct when saying the store is always clean and well maintained. I can usually find what I need quickly. That being said, customer service is seriously lacking in this place!!! It doesnt matter what time of day I go there, there is only ever one checkout line open. There will be 5 or 6 people in line and at least four employees there but only one person ringing guests up?? How does that make any sense?? Cashiers are never friendly and I am never greeted when walking in the store. I've never once had an employee ask me if I needed help finding anything and they dont wrap their breakables that you buy. Seriously...y'all need to spend more time giving guests a pleasant experience in the store. I prefer your selection over the .99 store but the customer service makes me NOT want to go back. read more

Better quality than the 99 cent stores and not as junky and cluttered. You can pick up everything here from Holiday wrap, cards, organizing tools for your home to snacks and candy. I personally like to stop by for gift bags, cards, plastic bags, foil, those types of things. They are usually well stocked and have staff around to help if needed. I got there 15 mins prior to closing. I wanted to pick up a few Christmas bags and was well aware of the time left. The one woman tells me "we are closing in 2 mins!" Went to dollar tree looking for some last minute items for a birthday party. I arrived a few minutes before the scheduled opening time and found the doors open. I started to go in and received a "could you just wait a minute?" Not a "good morning", or "Hello" So I waited outside until a manager saw me standing by the door and told me that I could come in. I proceeded to shop and found the store in a mess. I did find what I was looking for. I had 10 waterbottles to purchase and happened to find an empty box on the shelf...I put the water bottles in it for easier handling. At checkout I was asked to remove the bottles from the box and was informed that I could not use it because they were going to recycle it....then I was asked if I wanted to purchase a bag to put my bottles in. REALLY??? I understand the whole bag thing, not a problem. But when there is an empty box that they are going to recycle anyway available...why waste more bags. I shop at dollar tree quite often and have never had this type of experience. It happened to be the same girl at checkout that "greeted" me when I attempted to enter the store. read more
