Was at Planet Fitness the other day. Noticed the store for the first time, and decide to check it…read moreout. I live in town, and like to support local businesses as much as possible. The place is basically an indoor flea market, with what appear to be items that "fell off the back of a truck" headed to Dollar Tree. Some other repackaged salvation army donations line the walls and back corner. As I said earlier, I try and support local businesses whenever possible, so I decided to buy something for that sole purpose. Up towards the front, I saw a nick nack skull gas pump thing that caught my attention. Much like a flea market, nothing is marked with a price. The shelf the item was on was maybe 10' from the register, so I picked it up and asked the clerk how much it was. He told me to bring it over to him, I obliged. As soon I handed it to him, him told me that it was broken. I wasn't interested enough in the thing to buy it broken, so when he asked if I still wanted to purchase it, I declined. The next 2 minutes sound straight out of and episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, but it's too random to fabricate. With no hint of sarcasm, the clerk asked me a second time, if I was going to buy it. I told him, no thanks, since he had literally just pointed out that it was broken. He said, "you broke it, but you're not going to buy it?" Again, no hint of sarcasm. All I could spit out was "what?" He repeated his asinine accusation. I reminded him that he literally watched me pick up the item and make the 10' journey to the register. He said, you must have dropped it. It was literally 10 FEET from the register, a straight line, in plain view. I told him that I would have never even known it was broken had HE not pointed it out. And I probably would have purchased it is the price wasn't ridiculous. Which brings me to the next level of insanity. He said, "since it's broken, $20." If I didn't know any better I would have sworn he was joking. In fact, I laughed and again could only muster up a chuckled "what!?" He asked a finally time, incredulously, "so you're not going to buy it?" Zero irony. I said "why would I buy something that's broken?" He somehow spun it around on me, where he was the bigger person, and threw out a "have a great day." Which I would have taken as a please leave my store, had I not already been standing in the doorway halfway out at the time. I guess it was worth the show, in hindsight. I've gotten some mileage out of that story already. p.s. after telling someone the story, I decided to look the item, brand new, up on Amazon. Remember, he wanted $20 for a broken, unpackaged edition (see attachment)

Krazy Krates - No resolution. But they did block me on Facebook . Imagine that.

That's when the act drops -- and you find out exactly what kind of people you're really dealing with. I've spent thousands at this store over the past year. Supported their business. One day I bought a speaker set I was told worked. Yes, it was missing two of the speakers out of 5 and a remote, but I was told it "just needed a power cord." I asked if I could return it if it didn't work. Liz, the owner, said yes. That's the only reason I bought it. Since it couldn't be tested in the store. I ordered the cord, plugged it in -- dead. So I calmly reached out, expecting a return or exchange, like she promised. That's when the avoidance started. All of a sudden, Liz was "too busy." Then her mother-in-law became the new face of the store and their spokesperson. I was told Liz was "unreachable" and that my messages would be "passed along." They "couldn't see my messages anymore." Right. I asked again and again to speak directly with Liz -- the person who made the deal. She stayed silent. They were clearly hoping I'd give up. Too bad. I've already swallowed enough broken junk from this place. I'm not throwing away another $20 just because someone couldn't keep their word. Then Liz's husband stepped in and threw out the tired "as-is" excuse -like it meant something -- like I hadn't seen that sign on the wall before. Let's be clear: "As-is" doesn't give you the right to lie, say something works, and promise a return just to make a sale. That's not just shady -- it's illegal under Iowa Code 714H. Misrepresentation or deception even on 'as-is' items -is illegal. I asked again to speak directly with Liz -- the owner, the one who made the agreement. Did she respond? No. She got on the phone with her spokesperson and had her deliver the final decision. She went along with the 'as is' policy backing the excuse her husband gave. So not only did she break her word, she didn't even have the spine to own it herself. If you say it works, it should work. If you say it's returnable, honor that. And if you're the owner who made the deal -- then own it. Don't disappear and send your in-laws to deal with it. Not once did Liz step up and say the truth: "Yes, I told her she could return it." I was respectful. I gave them every chance to fix it. They could've exchanged the item and been done. No cost to them. But they couldn't even send one adult message saying, "You're right -- we'll take it back." That would've required maturity. Instead, they ghosted me. When that didn't work, they got snarky -- even "liked" my message saying I wouldn't be returning if they wouldn't honor their word. Then deleted the like. Classy. They treated me like the scammer -- after they disappeared. And when they got called out, they hid, lied, and hoped I'd go away. Three adults. Not one could pretend to show professionalism and say, "Let's make this right." This wasn't a misunderstanding. It was deliberate. Liz knew what she said. She could've told the truth and ended it -- but instead, she let her husband and in-laws lie for her. All to keep twenty bucks. Maybe they think they're too "Hollywood" now to care about customers. Maybe they think they can afford to lose a few -- as long as they keep up the act for the rest. But I get it. If the truth doesn't work, deflect. If the "as-is" excuse doesn't make legal sense-hide it behind your ego. And when all that's left is accountability -- stay silent. But make sure to "like" the part where I say I won't be coming back. Brilliant. Never in my life have I seen an adult go back on their word over $20. But hey -- for that $20, they earned themselves a one-star review and lost a loyal customer. Smart investment. No more silence. No more benefit of the doubt. Just the truth -- the one thing they clearly couldn't give me.

Much different than my quick "walk-thru" some years back where I was just in and out and wasn't able to leave a real proper review. Lots of little interesting shops, gift stores, clothing vendors, and many other kiosks inside. Again as if my first review, there is a nice nostalgia with me as I remember this place as "North Park Mall" various decades ago. If you are looking for nice gifts, stuffed animals, and cute crafted items for a significant other, there is lots to see here. Many many nice quality stuff animals too at BARGAIN rates. I enjoy walking around in here now 1-2 times a month, and have met some nice people and vendors working there. Overall the cater is towards Hispanics, but I see people of all sorts walking around. Def worth checking out, but you have to give it a few FAIR and thorough walk-a-rounds to let everything seep in.

Very…read moredisorganized, the owner doesn't seem to know where his stuff is and blames it on his staff. Never seen anyone else working there but whatever. I call and ask if they have a specific magic trick. The guy says they have it, so I drive on over. When I get there, he can't find it so he passes me a "similar" trick and says it's better. I decide to trust the guy and buy a couple more things. I try working the trick at home and realize it's super angle sensitive and the written instructions didn't help much. I decide to go back and get the Instructional DVD. I go back in and the guy spends half an hour with this other guy without asking if I need help. The other guy says to the owner that he can go ahead and assist the other gentleman. (Me) and the owner makes some offhand comment "oh he's not a gentleman" and proceeds to make other lame crappy jokes. Once he's finally done and tries to help me find the dvd, he can't find it, even though it's listed on their site. So I tell him how the written instructions aren't helpful. He basically tells me to go look online (which I've already done). There's nowhere else I could find it. So I ask about their return policy. "There isn't any" he says. Well I wish I knew that before I trusted this guy. So I'm about to leave and suddenly the guy finds it. I'm glad I didn't go there for nothing but then-- Here's the kicker. The guy decides to ILLEGALLY rip the DVD. He opens up the plastic, takes out the DVD and proceeds to rip it. I'm thinking-- how can this guy do that? Once it's done he gives me the DVD back and proceeds to play his ripped copy and walks to the back. So after all this I'm kind of annoyed and want to leave so I walk to the back and tell him I have to get going. He prices me out and I ask if he can give me a break on the price, since he now has a copy. This guy gets pissed off, snatched it out of my hand and says "Nah you don't need it" and puts it back. Well I'm not trying to waste an hour and a half so I tell him fine, I'll still buy it at full price. Which is ridiculous because he literally opened the packaging of the DVD and illegally ripped it. I purchase it and leave. This guy is shady and kind of a major jerk. I'm glad I didn't spend a ton of money here. Which I would have done in the future if he wasn't so rude. Not coming back. Save yourself some time and money and go elsewhere. Magic Inc is much better and so are some online sites.
