Midwest Magic - Dang ... this place has everything! - Arts & Crafts Near Me - Franklin Park, Illinois

They may have a lot of products but man does this place have some horrible customer service. Very disorganized, the owner doesn't seem to know where his stuff is and blames it on his staff. Never seen anyone else working there but whatever. I call and ask if they have a specific magic trick. The guy says they have it, so I drive on over. When I get there, he can't find it so he passes me a "similar" trick and says it's better. I decide to trust the guy and buy a couple more things. I try working the trick at home and realize it's super angle sensitive and the written instructions didn't help much. I decide to go back and get the Instructional DVD. I go back in and the guy spends half an hour with this other guy without asking if I need help. The other guy says to the owner that he can go ahead and assist the other gentleman. (Me) and the owner makes some offhand comment "oh he's not a gentleman" and proceeds to make other lame crappy jokes. Once he's finally done and tries to help me find the dvd, he can't find it, even though it's listed on their site. So I tell him how the written instructions aren't helpful. He basically tells me to go look online (which I've already done). There's nowhere else I could find it. So I ask about their return policy. "There isn't any" he says. Well I wish I knew that before I trusted this guy. So I'm about to leave and suddenly the guy finds it. I'm glad I didn't go there for nothing but then-- Here's the kicker. The guy decides to ILLEGALLY rip the DVD. He opens up the plastic, takes out the DVD and proceeds to rip it. I'm thinking-- how can this guy do that? Once it's done he gives me the DVD back and proceeds to play his ripped copy and walks to the back. So after all this I'm kind of annoyed and want to leave so I walk to the back and tell him I have to get going. He prices me out and I ask if he can give me a break on the price, since he now has a copy. This guy gets pissed off, snatched it out of my hand and says "Nah you don't need it" and puts it back. Well I'm not trying to waste an hour and a half so I tell him fine, I'll still buy it at full price. Which is ridiculous because he literally opened the packaging of the DVD and illegally ripped it. I purchase it and leave. This guy is shady and kind of a major jerk. I'm glad I didn't spend a ton of money here. Which I would have done in the future if he wasn't so rude. Not coming back. Save yourself some time and money and go elsewhere. Magic Inc is much better and so are some online sites. read more

I have been visiting this shop for about 15 years now - the biggest shop in the world. The owner, Tim knows all the top names in magic as well of all the magic on the market. He will be able to let you know what is good, and what isnt. It's fun to visit on a saturday afternoon where there are multiple magicians around, and it creates a fun environment for magicians, hobbyists, and those walking in who are interested to see what the shop has. This magic shop is fantastic; Tim the owner and the people who work there are always very respectful, helpful, and most importantly honest. Tim will tell you which effects are worth your money and which are not. With such a large store and inventory to choose from, I always find what I'm looking for when I walk in. Even if I'm not sure what that is at first, Tim is always beyond generous with his time in helping me figure it out. There's a reason this store has been such a staple in the magic community. Rude, arrogant, condescending shop owner that acts like you're inconveniencing him by being in his shop. I walked in the door, and he started grilling me from behind a wall of TVs and knick knacks. I said it was hard to show him what I wanted since I couldn't see him, so he said he was on the computer and begrudgingly came out. He then started criticizing me about how I must have been enjoying the nice day outside, even though I tried to tell him that I had to work gigs today. He got out the items to show me, taking me through them one by one. He didn't have the exact item I wanted, so he criticized it and tried to show me other things. A number of times, I said I was interested in something he showed me, but he just put it back and kept going, continuously cutting me off in what I was saying and criticizing what I said I might work for my shows. I finally got him to give me one item so I could look at it, and I said I really liked it. He then told me that he would be locking the door at closing time in about 10 minutes, so I had better make up my mind. I told him I had driven over 45 minutes to get to his shop, and I was holding an item I liked; he scoffed and told me I hadn't given myself enough time to be in the store. I tried to explain again that I'm a working entertainer and this was the only time I had. He cut me off. I asked him if it would be better if I just left. He said, "Probably." So I did. I've been doing magic for 26 years, professionally for 4. Magicians like this give us a bad name. Save your money and go to Magic Inc., where they are actually nice and helpful people who don't make you feel like garbage for walking in the door. read more

This place is wonderful! I took my 8 year old son to pick out some tricks, for his birthday. The two gentlemen working behind the counter (I assume they are the owners) showed him dozens of tricks and helped him compile a stack of tricks that were a great addition to his collection. My son was so impressed and pleased with their recommendations and couldn't wait to get home and practice. You cannot beat the customer service. We will certainly be back, if he ever makes it through this pile of tricks. read more

My God this place is incredible! They have every magic trick you can think of and everything is neatly displayed so you don't have to go digging in order to find something. I went there for the first time on 2/9/2017 and met "Tattoo", a young gentlemen who was as helpful as can be. This place reminds of Riley's Trick Shop" and "Chuck's House of Magic" back in the 90's. Today, most so called "magic stores" sell nothing but novelties and costumes anymore. Not here! This is the place to go if you are looking for magic. read more
