We usually hit this place up for birthday party decorations, gift bags, balloons and even candy and small toys to fill the gift bags with. As in the name, it's a buck or less. They have everything you could imagine a store like this would have. The staff, at least when I have been there, are friendly. The store can seem a bit cluttered and slightly unorganized at times but they have what you need in a pinch. Is a great place to get your holiday gift wrapping items of which we took advantage of this year. Not a bad place to walk around and see what cheap stuff they have. I know we will continue to go here simply because it is cheaper to buy the items I mention above here than to buy them from Walmart next door.

When we returned to our car, we were greeted by a delightful Boardman denizen sitting on the sidewalk, leaning against the bumper of our car & chain-smoking, smoke billowing around our car & filling our lungs. Not knowing this I stopped by on a recent Tuesday…read more The door was open and a lady was standing inside near the door so I didn't think to look at the hours on the door, but as I walked in she told me "we aren't open - I'm just here to water the plants." I was able to take a quick look around and saw none of the nice and interesting items on the Joshua Tree website (which I checked out after my failed visit), no eye-catching vintage or antique pieces. Maybe there is a second floor where the website stuff is? There was a second person who had stopped by randomly as I had so there's obviously enough interest in at least Tuesday hours. When this place IS open they close at six, so if you work till five and want to visit you better leave work early. Youngstown needs more antique / vintage / resale stores; right now Akron is the place to go for vintage shopping. Doubt I will give this place another chance.

It's the type of place everyone bitches about until it closes; then they lament the fact that they are stuck living in a food desert. I don't play those games. While I don't shop there exclusively, I do so proudly. With a florist, pharmacy, bakery and deli under one roof you can check a lot off your errand list at Sparkle. The bakery is adequate, and the deli is a damn sight better than the pig slop Wal-Mart will sell you. I've also gotten some surprisingly great deals on beer and wine. There's a WRTA bus stop in front of Sparkle, so those who aren't fortunate enough to own a car can still pick up a birthday cake, prescription drug or missing ingredient for that new recipe. That's important. Profit margins are paper thin in the grocery game and I'm surprised places like Sparkle can stay afloat in the current year. But I'm thankful they do.

My suspensions were correct; and frankly, the shop just keeps getting better. It's almost unbelievable you would ever see some of these items in Youngstown, but there they are, and at a price you can actually afford. What makes Mel's Habitat different from other local consignment shops is that it caters to individuals. You won't find many things for the person who wants to look like everyone else; but you WILL find that one of a kind piece that you refuse to buy, can't stop obsessing over, and return as soon as she opens the doors so you can bring that beauty home. Mel's Habitat is a TREASURE; and I encourage any and all to visit, even if not to buy a thing, you just have to see the treasures. They are worth beholding.

My favorite thing was that they had Chi hair straighteners for more than 50% off. If/when mine ever kicks the dust I know where I will be going. It was $70 at the time but hear they have them for $50 at times! $70 is a really good deal, $50 is even better (obviously)! The deals are just everywhere. I also found headphones (I left mine at the office), the same headphones I buy for $20, for $7! $7! Such a good deal! I also found a couple of pans for less than $7, regularly around $20! Most stores were sold out and here they had them in stock and well priced! I will be trying to find these stores in Dallas (where I now live) and will be suggesting to everyone I know to go check it out! I can't wait to check out their shoe selection!
