We usually hit this place up for birthday party decorations, gift bags, balloons and even candy and small toys to fill the gift bags with. As in the name, it's a buck or less. They have everything you could imagine a store like this would have. The staff, at least when I have been there, are friendly. The store can seem a bit cluttered and slightly unorganized at times but they have what you need in a pinch. Is a great place to get your holiday gift wrapping items of which we took advantage of this year. Not a bad place to walk around and see what cheap stuff they have. I know we will continue to go here simply because it is cheaper to buy the items I mention above here than to buy them from Walmart next door.

It's worth a trip to Ollie's for the people-watching (I guess). As we checked out, the couple ahead of us were loudly discussing an older, infirm relative of theirs who is in need of assisted living after a nasty fall. And this soliloquy duel was punctuated by the soundtrack of another couple's toddler screaming like she was being tortured. When we returned to our car, we were greeted by a delightful Boardman denizen sitting on the sidewalk, leaning against the bumper of our car & chain-smoking, smoke billowing around our car & filling our lungs. Avoid Ollie's. Roses a quarter mile east has a better selection without the advertising budget or creepy mascot.

I was able to take a quick look around and saw none of the nice and interesting items on the Joshua Tree website (which I checked out after my failed visit), no eye-catching vintage or antique pieces. Maybe there is a second floor where the website stuff is? There was a second person who had stopped by randomly as I had so there's obviously enough interest in at least Tuesday hours. When this place IS open they close at six, so if you work till five and want to visit you better leave work early. Youngstown needs more antique / vintage / resale stores; right now Akron is the place to go for vintage shopping. Doubt I will give this place another chance.

My suspensions were correct; and frankly, the shop just keeps getting better. It's almost unbelievable you would ever see some of these items in Youngstown, but there they are, and at a price you can actually afford. What makes Mel's Habitat different from other local consignment shops is that it caters to individuals. You won't find many things for the person who wants to look like everyone else; but you WILL find that one of a kind piece that you refuse to buy, can't stop obsessing over, and return as soon as she opens the doors so you can bring that beauty home. Mel's Habitat is a TREASURE; and I encourage any and all to visit, even if not to buy a thing, you just have to see the treasures. They are worth beholding.

The home section was great too--everything was beautiful and most of the clearance items were really nice as well. Sometimes clearance is just bad, but this TJ Maxx was really on top of it. Prices were average for a TJ Maxx. They carried a lot of name brands so you can expect a price point reflecting that (ie: Starting at $85, TJ Maxx is $30). I also found headphones (I left mine at the office), the same headphones I buy for $20, for $7! $7! Such a good deal! I also found a couple of pans for less than $7, regularly around $20! Most stores were sold out and here they had them in stock and well priced! I will be trying to find these stores in Dallas (where I now live) and will be suggesting to everyone I know to go check it out! I can't wait to check out their shoe selection!
