Specifically, I purchase their baby arugula and baby broccoli sprouts, which are absolutely delicious and I can't find them anywhere else. I also purchase all my Woodstock items here, including dark sweet cherries and various vegetables. A lot of the stores don't seem to carry the Woodstock products, which I find are the best available in terms of flavor and quality. I purchase a number of other things here as I need them and that I enjoy. Even though it is quite a challenge (because of the giant size of this store), when I have time I peruse some of the aisles in which I don't usually shop for things that I might be interested in. Shop 'n Kart has a huge selection.

I called market of choice spoke to the bakery manager and I was absolutely disgusted by this individual. I said there was a piece of paper with tape and it has ingredients on it with the number 5. She says that that is normal thing for displayed cakes and scoffed it doesn't have ingredients on it like I was lying. It's on the bottom of the cake and she then says you didn't see the plastic when you were serving these cakes to these kids? First of all no I did not, omg are you suggesting I was negligent? I cut the cake in wedges from the box and served it flat on a white plate. I remember looking at the plates and did not see it. I did not expect the plastic. I suspect that it was wedged on the side of the cake and it got pushed in. It went unnoticed because if you see the picture it's pretty noticeable, it's an 1.5" piece of paper with plastic tape but if it's in the cake I'm not going to see it. They offered a refund and they can have it. I am dissatisfied with this place and their lack of professionalism. I was an upset mom and they treated me like I was culpable of serving plastics to little kids. To the manager who called me a liar that there was no ingredients on the paper, read it for yourself. I was simply describing what was found in the cake.

They make the best homemade salsa and soup in the surrounding area!! It's worth the drive and not too far out of the way. Forewarning, the salsa is on the sweeter side, per se, and I usually get 'medium' but they also have 'hot'. I've never had anything like it, it's sooo good. They have just about anything you'd want from a farmers market and my pictures don't really do it justice. And guess what, they're open 6 days a week!! The owner still makes her mouth-watering assortment of soups, but now-a-days instead of having them steaming hot in crock pots for patrons to scoop their desired amount, they are prepackaged and frozen for all to enjoy when it suits them. She says they are even more popular than before. It looks like the same modest place as before, very inviting, and well stocked. I'm thankful we have places like this around! But I stopped in to Safeway to see what was in the deli. I got 4 pieces of fried chicken for $4.99. I also got a pint of broccoli cheese soup, and a cheddar bagel. So instead of going to get an almost $40 friend chicken meal at a restaurant, I recreated a bougie meal for under $12. The brute was a gift...LOL! The chicken was really good and everything else complimented it. I came here last year because I baked two cakes and they had everything I needed. I think I was the first person to place my order that year. I ordered a 16 pound turkey. I intended to cook it in my Oster Roaster, which yields a very moist, almost rotisserie - style result. I was one of the first people to get to Natural Grocers to pick up my turkey. When I got there the person bringing the turkeys out from the back brought out a huge 22+ pound turkey and said this was all she had left. I protested that I had reserved a 16 pound bird and that I didn't need a 22 pound turkey. She looked at me in a very un-compassionate way and said, "This is all we've got. Take it or leave it." I took it because I had to feed 15 people on Thanksgiving and they wanted turkey and dressing!!! My husband and I brined it in the 24 hours before Thanksgiving. It's a good thing that we did because a 22 pound turkey was far too large for our Oster Roaster. The lid would not close!!! OMGosh. Michael and I just looked at each other in horror. We knew all the sides that we had planned to prepare and cook partly in our oven while the turkey was roasting in the Oster. We put it in the oven to roast and within an hour the skin had turned dark black. Michael asked, "What are we going to do?" I said "Cook the dang bird. Then we'll take the skin off and pray that it is moist underneath." In the meantime we got to work in the kitchen on all the sides. Now bear in mind, an Oster Roaster cooks a perfectly tender, moist turkey in far less time than roasting it in a convection oven. We had no idea if that turkey was going to be done by the time our guests started arriving. We just persevered. What else could we do? I will admit that we considered serving them steaks, which we would've had to defrost but we decided that somehow we would pull a rabbit out of the hat. In this case, an edible turkey. When our probe timer told us the internal temperature was where it needed to be, we removed our totally black turkey from the oven. Michael said to me, "I'll handle this. You finish the sides." I gave him a huge platter, at his request, and carving knives and -- with immense relief -- continued to work on everything else, all of which were completed right on time. Our guests began to arrive and I plyed them with good wine, which made them very happy. I said nothing about what we had gone through that day and, in a few minutes, Michael walked in from the outer kitchen with the huge turkey platter arranged perfectly. My brilliant husband had removed all the skin and arranged the white meat on 3/4 of the platter and the dark meat on the remaining 1/4 just like a caterer. It was PERFECT!!! I told the guests to help themselves and I went to my room, shut the door, and collapsed. I didn't know it but Michael did the same thing. We had been under so much stress that neither of us could eat a single bite. One of our guests was Matt Sheehan, a gifted local chiropractor (Family Chiropractic). He came to my room and worked on me for about 30 minutes and I was restored. (Did I mention he is gifted?) When I came out everyone was raving about the food. Michael and I were both very relieved about that but the stress we had been under because of the turkey was awful. We made our minds up right then that we would never buy another turkey from Natural Grocers ever again. If you can't trust them to honor the advance reservation that you make for a turkey for such an important day ... well, you can't trust them at all. This year I bought a beautiful fresh Mary's organic turkey for $2.99 per pound at ShopNCart in Ashland with no stress at all, I am very pleased to report. A friend of ours is going to smoke it for us and, believe me, he is a world class smoker. When one door closes, another opens!!!! Happy Thanksgiving!!!

For example, Freddy's is one of the rare places in town that consistently sells super high-quality Baby Gem lettuce AND for a very competitive price. Bless their hearts, they also sell organic orange cherry tomatoes well into the winter when no one else does and they taste wonderful!!! Because the grocery store is primarily conventional, I shop here very carefully. My husband and I only eat organic food and I don't want to mistakenly purchase something I think is organic and drive home with it only to find out that it is conventional. I don't shop in any other part of this really huge store but I do value the grocery section. They have an excellent selection of artisan cheese, olives, and lots of other things that are pretty hard to get up here in Southern Oregon. I find that the people who work here are consistently very warm and friendly, which I very much appreciate. It makes doing my errands is a great deal more pleasurable. And, I also really appreciate that I get points for what I purchase in the grocery section which we apply to purchasing gas at Freddy's. My husband says that Costco and Fred Meyers have the most competitive prices for gas consistently so that's where we buy our gas Thank you very much for all that you do. Please keep doing it!!!
