The Dollar General in Ponder is so much cleaner, neater and has better stocked shelves (and the…read moremajority of the staff is friendlier) than any other Dollar General in North Texas/Oklahoma that I've visited (I would estimate I have shopped at least once at approximately 12-15 DG stores). I'm thankful that this store was chosen to sell the expanded frozen and refrigerated foods as this has saved me 20 minute trips into Denton at least a half dozen times in the last year. I am here to pick up something or another at least once a week, but have been in as often as three times in a week, as it is the only place that sells groceries/cleaning products/sundries in all of Ponder and within 20 minutes of my house. (I live outside of Ponder, closer to Wise County and there is nothing out here). The only complaints about this Dollar General are: 1. The trash can in front of the business is full to overflowing too much of the time and this causes trash to blow all over their parking lot, the grassy areas around the business, the ditch next to the road, the road itself, the houses across the street, etc, etc, etc....and 2. The Women's Toilet. (Possibly the Men's, as well, but I don't know for certain) While public accommodations are something I try to avoid whenever at all possible, sometimes you, or one of your children, will have to use one unless you are a hermit. While the bathrooms here are not the worst I've seen in the USA, and they are by far better than most every bathroom I encountered in northern India, they are not swept, mopped, cleaned or sanitized at ALL enough that they should be associated with a major business like Dollar General. Last week, the Women's room was well stocked with TP and Paper Towels, the sink was working and fairly clean, but the amount of dead brown crickets and dead brown cricket legs in the bathroom was too many to count. The floor also needed to be mopped. The bathrooms really need a MAJOR cleaning/scrubbing from top to bottom. This is the reason for the deduction of one star.

There was stuff literally in the isle like a tornado had blow through it. All over the floor. Could barely move at all in the isle. I pay with cash and the change was 51 cents. I go to get the stuff I paid for she started to check another guy out and I was grabbing my bag and she turned the bag spinner really fast I have just had surgery on my wrist and arm and she was being very condescending. She needs to be fired. I guarantee you will get more business if you do. If you see this or read this. You need to be medicated. I hope you get fired because you're not friendly at all you need to work in the pits of hell. Stop stealing change dollar general. Owners. Don't waste your money paying rude condescending employees. I like Dollar General because they're small, easy to navigate and pretty much go straight to what you came in for. This location is poorly laid out and it's too dark inside. The aisles should be wider and cleaner and the store should be brighter and if management at this location did some rearranging on a lot of the aisles it would make the merchandise look more appealing and make the shopping experience better. This particular location, in it's present shape would be at the bottom of my list for a place to shop. Presentation matters.

Dollar General - Carts are kept behind registers, easy to miss.

I had to check out this older woman who was the cashier gave me no bags. I went back in to ask for some bags, and she refused, claiming she only had a certain amount. Despite all registers being stocked fully with bags. I ended up having to go in purchase another item just to get a few bags. To which she still tried to argue with me about. I'm not sure why nasty people work in customer service. This place needs new cashiers and better service.

However, considering the only review is based…read moreoff an employee that surely doesn't work there any longer, it seemed only fair to even the playing field with a second review. I don't frequent Dollar Generals, but have been to a few. I've never been a particular fan of the brand and find the name misleading as not everything is a dollar. ;-) Still, when your weekly shopping is done and you find you forget one or two items, it's really useful to pop into an uncrowded discount store instead of slugging it back to the crowded grocery store and traversing a huge parking lot. If I find myself out of a basic item that can't wait, I think a discount store is a good option for things like paper goods, stationary/ greeting cards, batteries, cleaning products or a bottle of soda. What caught my attention about this location is that they were actually stocked! The last three locations I had been to were understocked, understaffed and had entire racks empty or mixed in with unrelated items. Overall, they are larger than other locations and well stocked with a diverse selection. The layout and selection is a big plus. I wouldn't mind trading a couple of the aisles of selection for a little more room navigating the aisles, but of course I'm going to say that- I get a little claustrophobic at times. This location also had different displays, like coolers built into the end caps. I liked that, it looked cool, but it was also more convenient than hunting down where the drinks were. The carts, should you need one, are semi hidden behind the main register counter. It looks like a little cubby hole built from three displays. Also, they actually have a restroom and water fountain on the front ride side. The only negative is that I was not acknowledged by any of the employees or offered assistance. I don't particularly expect impressive service at a Dollar General; considering they were slow, there is no reason to expect it, at least not from the weekend staff. Overall, though Dollar General still has competition from other chains, this location is one of the better ones based on size, layout, selection and organization. So if you shop the brand, this is the one to go to.
