Big Lots - BigLots -- NY fanboy merch (Bills/Mets), but despite big clearance, no one in Philly territory will buy it!

Bottom Line: Large store, wide aisles and lots of discounted stuff…read more My husband and I had about an hour to kill before boarding the ferry for Lewes so I decided to stroll around Big Lots. I think I've only been in a Big Lots one other time and it was years ago so I wasn't sure what to expect. On a Friday evening there were not too many shoppers in there which is just how I like it, especially during COVID! I enjoyed meandering the aisles looking at all sort of goodies like kitchen gadgets, Christmas decorations, cleaning supplies and snack foods. In the end I left with a Trolls coloring book, some Haribo gummy candy, a few bottles of water and some puzzles. Regarding the puzzles, my husband and I do lots of 1,000 piece puzzles and I was able to get several at Big Lots for only $6 whereas I usually pay at least $11 at Target or $20 at a specialty puzzle store. Funny enough, one of the puzzles that Big Lots had for $6 I had previously purchased at Hershey Park for $20! The cashiers were nice and check out was easy. Not a fancy store but overall a good experience!

This Big Lots, located in the same shoping center as Acme on Bayshore Rd, is well equipped with their standard merch, but has intelligently expanded stock on items most needed in the many rental properties nearby. It makes sense that affordable furniture/home goods offerings would be in constant demand, and Big Lots, just off island, would do really well this close to the homes on island (as well as for all the locals in North Cape May and beyond). I noticed many items on the shelves that I found in my rental, so clear evidence of how they're put to use. Likely because this store does so well, I was delighted to find more variety in every department (items that I don't see at stores nearer me), as well as more stock on everything available. I ended up with a fun dog toy for only $5, which my dog has enjoyed way beyond $5 in the few days he's had it. I also got a kid's xylophone for $3 (regular price, not sale), which is rare to find so inexpensive. The bars are metal with the rest plastic, so quality is decent enough to make some fun noise, and I don't worry about my son breaking it like his wood and metal one. For some reason there were a crazy number of pillows all over this store. I could not get away from the pillows. I guess that is another item in high demand at the beach? If you need pillows, Big Lots has 'em. All in all, if you need something to equip your rental, or if you're vacationing and require any home goods, toys for the kids, dog stuff, or junk food groceries, this is a great place to stop! I didn't see staff on the floor, and checkout was friendly but a little apathetic. So this is why I took a star off. But in terms of store cleanliness, merch presentation, ease of navigating store, and stock availability, they deserve 5 stars.

Walmart runs a very disingenuous operation, and that is a very generous statement. When one…read moresearches for an item of interest online, one is typically presented with the item at a price that is frequently attractive and competitive with other online retailers, and one in particular that needs not any mention. A number of options are available for delivery and local pickup. Typically, the price is displayed prominently, in bold, with a higher price crossed out, as if to indicate a discount. Somewhere below this discounted price is the disclaimer "Price when purchased online." While, on the face of it, this may appear to be a perfectly reasonable proposition from a legalistic, pragmatic perspective, it is a rather deceptive practice that attempts to allow Walmart to compete with certain other online retailers that operate under a completely different business model. The issue is a type of bate and switch in that one is enticed by the attractive price advertised, and thereby encouraged to buy the item from Walmart. As Walmart's primary value proposition is the ability to shop locally and purchase and enjoy the item that same day, the problem arises when such a desire is pursued by the customer. When attempting to purchase the item locally at the advertised price, the customer is then informed that the discounted price is only available when purchased online - which, to be fair is stated on the item's web page - however, one cannot simply then purchase the item online and pick it up right there at the store. No. It must be shipped to the customer's residence. It cannot even be shipped to the store for pickup at a later date. This is what me and my wife have been told on more than one occasion. Is this the true policy? I don't really know. So, in this scenario, we recently desired an item and went to the local store to purchase it. Of course, we were told that we could not purchase the item at the advertised price at the store, and would need to purchase the item online to enjoy the offered $30 savings. So, of course, we left the store and purchased the item from everyone's major competitor and received it two days later. This practice of Walmart is unfair and very deceptive. While it is understandable that they would want to compete directly with this other online retailer, it is not at all acceptable that they should do so under the same brick-and-morter name and business model. If they want to establish an online presence as a retailer operating as a remote seller and shipper, then they should do so under a distinctly and easily identifiable business domain separate from their physical, geographic business persona. Under their current policies and procedures, they are unfairly presenting an alleged advantage to the Walmart shopping experience that really doesn't exist. The crux of the issue lies in the customer's inability to purchase said item at the discounted price without doing so in a remote, ship-to fashion - even after driving to the store and expending time, gasoline and stomach acid. This is not only incredibly stupid, but detrimental to Walmart's profitability and investor commitment as a conventional retailer ostensibly servicing the real, UNvirtual purchasing public. I believe this to be an unlawful practice and I fully intend to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission citing Walmart as a false advertiser and practicer of deceptive and unfair business practices.

I found a cute kaleidoscope - not vintage but still beautiful colors and patterns for 3$-I also noticed a super cool paperweight in the case and the guy was kind to let me see it. He informed me that it was 25% off. It was reminiscent of one my grandmother had and I really liked the murano glass look to it. I've seen these priced at 20-22 elsewhere. I got this for 12$. It was priced at 15 with 25% discount. Definitely a lot to see here and I would certainly go back on a rainy seashore day. I recommend this business. The only thing that was off-putting was the girl at the register was screwing around on her cell phone as I stood right in front of her. A coworker had to nudge her to ring me up. She apologized for being inattentive.

This is not a thrift store…read more Yes, I know the sign SAYS it's a thrift store. It's not. Thrift stores are places where you can purchase home goods, clothing, furniture, etc at a low price because everything is used/pre owned. This is,at best, a vintage store. Why? Prices. Across categories, the prices are quite high, in many cases above eBay asking price (which is different from actual sold price). I had heard from news & social media that this was happening- stores have seen how "up sellers" were making money on thrift store finds. They've decided that if someone would pay a reseller, they would also pay at a store, right? Even better, the thrift store gets their items donated - so free to them. I hope they are successful with this. I understand that the money they make largely goes to help people in need. If you're going to do this, you need to re-brand as a vintage boutique. Otherwise you are drawing customers who are not interested or able to pay premium prices. As I walked through the store, I heard comments from others: "Can you believe this price? It's so expensive! I can't afford anything here." To top it off, I visited another nearby thrift, also run by a nonprofit, where they had some of the identical items available at a fraction of the ARC's asking price. I wish them well. I think the ARC programs provide a lot of services and support to people with intellectual differences, including members of my family. I love to support them. I'm just not their customer. I am sad.

Otherwise, the line at the registers was ridiculous considering the number of available employees just hanging around doing nothing behind the counter. When I finally got to my cashier she was less than plesant especially considering the wait. And I will be the first to confess I am the Queen of Ghettoness when it comes to putting my toddler in the first shopping cart I find in the lot, and taking that same cart to every store in a shopping mall. But at the end of my spree I return it! Marshalls' policy of putting locks on the wheels of their carts (so that if you even try to leave the store in order to get a cartfull of merch to your car, you will be halted and potentially hurt yourself tripping over the stalled cart, or maybe even break something) is absurd. This is a huge pain if you're buying a bunch (which would be their selling goal right?), or if you have a small child to manage with your shopping. It is impossible to get a large number of items to your car, along with a kid who must be carried (for safety in a parking lot). What a PiTA! Glad I didn't buy more, and the rules printed on every cart, with cumbersome BOOT LOCKS at every wheel inform me not to do so in the future. Y su version de las reglas escrito en espanol no es completo, es muy estupido!
