We came in 10 minutes before closing for one item. The two store associates were very rude. They kept yelling 10 more minutes, 9 more minutes and so on. We got to the register and my friend put in the wrong pin and i made a little joke, "she's probably nervous because you guys have us on a count down" but i was honestly joking. The cashier didn't laugh or think it was funny, she just had a blank stare. So i was like, "that was a joke, I'm sorry" still no smile or anything. So at the end of the purchase the pin pad asked how our store experience was and i put highly dissatisfied. And she said "well that was rude" ... I was in there today. The manager or acting manager was a rude ass person to the ONLY cashier. The cashier wanted to take her bre ass k, the manager said to her loudly and very condescending, and very rudely to the cashier that she had already taken her break. The cashier said very calmly that she had not take her break. The cashier was very emotional and embarrassed by the way the manager person spoke to her in front ofva line full of people. I was embarrassed for her. It was absolutely ridiculous the way she spoke to this lady. And, instead of helping her with the 10 deep of customers, she just stood there clueless. She needs to be taught how to "manage" people if she wants to be "large and in charge " The "manager " was out of line in my opinion. I often go to Dollar General, Big Lots, and Target for shopping. Dollar General has been popping up stores all over the country. This one seems to have been around a while. They're not precisely a dollar store as most people think, but if you're careful, you'll find many deals. In a lot of ways, they replace your grandparents' Five and Dime stores. They everything from cereal to mops to greeting cards. I've often bought Tide Pods at DG, and it's one of the few stores that regularly has Mountain Dew Code Red, and the 2 liter bottles are only $1.00. This certain store has a friendly staff and it's generally well stocked but there are some missing items. On occasion, their prices are higher than typical stores, so do your research. read more

I lost my cell phone on Monday. Didn't notice it was really not in the truck until Thursday. I did a prayer to St. Jude (patroon saint of lost causes) and St. Anthony (patron saint of lost objects). A funny store about my mom and St. Jude but that's for another review. Now this is Thursday. I get directed from within to retrace my steps. Grocery Outlet, no phone; Dollar Store, no phone; Dollar General, PHONE. They found it or it got turned in and it was there!! I was very overwhelmed. Restored my faith in human kind, really. Do not go to this Dollar General extremely rude and unprofessional people that work here !!!!! I walked into this store with my mother (63 )sister (41) and niece (7) and my (63 )year old mother was told she could not carry her purse /backpack it into the store, and she had to leave it up front. I Was also wearing a backpack but WAS NOT TOLD I could not wear it into the store. They told her she had to leave her purse / backpack at the front desk and she refused so then they told her to leave. My mother is diabetic also and needs her insulin/sugar pills on her for safety, which is in her bag. I'm sorry but a 63 year old woman is not your theft problem. We were just looking to buy some pet supplies and unfortunately we had to leave and exit the premises because my mom would not leave her purse at the front desk with two random people that work there. (DONT BLAME HER )Little do they know she WAS a loyal customer and spend a lot of money at this Dollar General will she will no longer shop here. I was a 63 year old woman that you asked to put my purse backpack at the counter with my daughters I'm out of town and my granddaughter very embarrassing you made me angry I will not go to that Dollar General again I used to spend a lot of money there and I liked it but not now I will not be treated like a criminal I don't ever have a police record and I feel resented by the way he treated me there were two young men there and the one with the long hair brown white guy was extremely rude as was the black guy working there asking us to leave I cannot believe the treatment no manager there according to those two cannot even get to the phone to call the manager because no one answers the phone I thought Dollar General was trying to become a up store but apparently I'm wrong I would understand this policy with teenagers but not people over 60 especially if we don't even look homeless this is the worst treatment I've had in a long time also reported this to the main Dollar General read more

I am a returning customer and I am in shock that they have completely given up on their management. Their new manager (Cameron) has been working there for maybe a year, every time I visit dollar general he is usually there and usually my cashier. He greets all of the guest with a bland look and tonight is the night I am reporting this because he is unprofessional and childish. he went on his lunch break while there were at least 8-10 people in line, leaving his ONLY cashier ALONE at the time and ON TOP OF THAT, he was not only screaming at his worker (her name was Bobbie or Bonnie I read from name tag and didn't have my glasses) but he started screaming at an elderly man because he didn't have a solution to help him with a return that did not have a receipt because they did not give him one, I watched them ring his things up, he was not aware that they were placed under the wrong price and he asked if he could get a refund (speaking as a cashier- it's annoying to have to refund your guest but it is your job!!) at this point I had already asked the sweet lady if this was her manager and she said yes. she then ended up paying out of her pocket solving a problem that her manager should've had taken care of. i am displeased with the experience he continues to give me. I wish I could go into my neighborhood dollar general with out having to deal with childish behavior. I would've never guessed he was the manager and now that I know that I feel very sorry for all the nice cashiers that work there. i don't like leaving bad reviews and I would hate if this was my review. i have been coming to this dollar general location ever since they first opened, and have always had a good experience until Cameron started working there and being an absolute asshole to his employees, and guests. This incident happened back in September however has caused such an emotional disturbance in my life I feel the least I can do is let everyone else know what to possibly expect when shopping at this location. My family and I were spending the evening at the bowling alley before heading home on foot which was just a half mile down Yosemite ave. We stopped at Dollar general to use the bathroom because I have three young boys and every ten minutes it's a thing. So I went with my two younger son's to their bathroom while my boyfriend and oldest son shopped around. When we finished we all shopped around together and even tho the employees made it very obvious that they were following us and watching our every move we proceeded to purchase $25 worth of merchandise. When in line to leave my other son decided all the sudden now he had to go to the bathroom too. So I asked the cashier for the key and all the boys came with for the last pit stop. While in the bathroom helping my five year old off the toilet and washing his hands my eleven year old is holding the door half open and I hear this lady walk by and say to him "been in there awhile don't you think?" I hear my son say "my brothers almost done" and this lady says...."I don't care I'm calling the cops".... As I run out of the bathroom to ask her to repeat herself to my face and not to a child she disappeared in her office. I told the cashier to please get her manager NOW. That same lady props the door of her office open and with a hand on her hip says "ya?" I (beyond livid) asked "do we have a problem??" She gives me some BS about how I was in there over an hour and the bathrooms weren't supposed to be in use after 8pm. I said "you missed the part where we made two separate trips in there as you can see I have multiple children, so in fact I was not in the bathroom longer than it took each one to do their business and if I'm not supposed to be allowed to use the bathroom after 8 you take it up with your cashier who handed me the damn key." I don't remember much at that point cuz I was shaking from the adrenaline rush i was so angry and in disbelief from her lack of humanity and terrible customer service that I wanted to give her a reason to call the police. I've never been disrespected like that in any store ever. Part of me wants to go back there when my kids aren't with me and have her pull some shit like that again. Dollar general is one of my favorite places to go because of their occasional clearance sales. However, this one in particular has an abundance of rude managers. There's Bobby Mcgee, the DM who will belittle you in front of other customers. Then there's the African American manager who resembles Dr. Burke from Grey's Anatomy. He likes to be a smartass. Not to mention that they've got petty theives. Unfortunately, I walked in there with my wallet and walked out without it. This DG sucks when it comes to customer service. If the deals weren't freaking awesome, I'd stop shopping here. But that's not the case. One star for Mr. Mcgee and Dr. Burke. read more

From an employment view, I would just like to state that I am appalled at the way employees are treated and how Managers within the store configure ways to manipulate a persons schedule in order to base the reasoning behind termination is because it was assumed an employee could just be expected to come in whenever they were asked and when there is no response from that employee, on the third day it was received a text message stating unfortunately the person is now terminated and could pick up their check at the store. Well in my opinion, if you obviously needed a person to work, schedule them. Because Im sorry but you cant expect any person to be waiting by the phone. There are other important things in life people deal with, and quite frankly my week was left with an empty schedule. I assumed that meant those days which I was not on the schedule were days I was given off. On my off days I take care of other responsibilities and so i have. Now as far as I am concerned I have done nothing wrong, yet I am told that this can be done to a person. So I will tell you the first and last two weeks I had worked 30 plus hours. then down to 4.5 hours this week. I had decided a week ago I didnt think I should take responsibility for a key holder position, based on my need to better familiarize myself with the store itself as well as finish up my schooling due to end on October 31st. I did not think this would be such an issue since the turnover rate was so high that not only do they need key holders, but general cashiers . I felt that at least I could be a stable cashier and solid for them to depend on as staffed. Now whatever has made them decide to just terminate an employee who didnt come in when called to come in with only a few hours notice? Im sorry but those were my days off and as far as Im concerned the schedule was staffed short on purpose to be able to control and manipulate whatever situation the assistant manager Mariah decides upon. The fact that your turnover rate is so high, did you ever think to make a decision based on your own experience or is it always based off of what your assistant manager "says" because I promise you this, you have lost good people based off of taking the word of someone else. I realize that time with the employee gives you the comfort of trusting their word, But just look at it this way, how many times have you shafted another new hire based off of Mariahs opinion. After so many Failed attemps to hire stable work crew, how many of them didnt work out due to her opinion? none the less high turnover should be a red flag to anyone seeking employment within that store, and although this situation is unfortunate, I will say i did enjoy the customer service work and it was great to be received with smiles from all of you during my employment at this store. I also would like to say that Dollar General is a really cool store. It is a shame that there is not a priority of this company that sees how management could be improved and or human resources. Thank you Maria you were always a pleasant manager to work with and dont ever change. You should be running the store you have much better people skills and i appreciate the opportunity none the less. Furthermore I would just like to say for anyone going into a job there, beware of mariah ,the young assistant, a few customers had mentioned or desribed her to be bi- polar. Whether this is true or not, I personally decided not to dispute this issue and except the termination given based on taking my own safety and integrity as more important than trying to work for this place that obviously takes pride in manipulating employees and their work status for personal gain reasons and over what they consider controlling the lives of employees who work for them by setting them up within the guide lines of scheduling and not scheduling them and further more expecting those not scheduled to be at their beck and call. It really is too bad. unfortunately Im not the only review that seems to have impacted the opinions of the management at that store. this store receives 2 1/2 stars for great business idea and great customers, yet lack of adequate management and the misuse of management vs employee status used for personal gain or achievement. read more
