I understand the need to rearrange merchandise, but it still pisses me off. Today when I went into my Schnucks, they had flipped the organization of their shopping carts. The smaller two basket carts use to be on the right side of the corral, as you entered the store. Now they are on the left side, on the far side of the lobby. I understand the change, they want you to take a larger cart in hopes that you purchase more items. Sorry, not happening. I like my small cart. When I entered the store, I was entering with other seniors and we all were taken back of the cart reorganization. We all figured it out and stepped to the left to get the two tier carts. To be honest, I still miss the red hand baskets. For me they were the perfect size for a single person. Some of my favorite departments are the salad bar, seafood, deli and bakery. I like the salad bar because, I can make a delicious salad and take it home. Being single, buying all the ingredients for a salad is not cost effective. So much of it goes to waste. The same is true for the bakery. When I want something sweet, I can buy a single serving instead of baking an entire cake or pie. The seafood and deli are great places for me to grab lunch items when I am working my part-time job. In front of the prepared foods they have already packaged like; Chicken Salad, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad and other prepared side dishes. The seafood department has similar offerings. This Godfrey Schnucks is my hometown grocery store and it's close to my home. I'm easily here 3 times a week, so I'm a familiar face to most cashiers and some floor clerks. Since I usually buy 10 or fewer items, I'm a frequent user of Self Check-Out. When I have items that need to be weighed or I did some serious shopping and bought 11+ items I go through the cashier line. Self or cashier check-out, the staff is always friendly.

Just yesterday I got in on their sale of Snow crab legs and my family had a great feast! Their customer service is wonderful and they are so nice every time I come in. Oh I also want to mention their house made sausages. Unbelievably good brats. I particularly like the cherry brats, the cranberry horseradish brats, and the Italian sausage. WONDROUS! So if you live in Alton please utilize this little treasure. It's family owned and it shows in how they treat the customer!

The customer service is what you'd expect from a small town market, personalized and friendly. They offer monthly meat bundles that are budget friendly. Their brats will put, Johnsonville Brats to shame and Jimmy Dean's sausage cannot hold a candle to their sausage. Proof that buying local is a good thing. Some of their brands are generic, but with today's economy that is a good thing. There are lots of single little coolers around the store, filled with perishable products. Take note of the prepared foods near the butcher counter. You'll find some delicious side dishes for those tasty brats. Another end-cap to check out, is their branded spices. They're just as good as those expensive name brand spices. If you haven't shopped the aisles of Schwegel's, I recommend you correct that ASAP. You just might become a frequent shopper.

First off, if you haven't been here before, let me tell you it is similar to Aldi's. You pay 25¢ to use one of their shopping carts and once you plug it back in to the corral, you magically get your quarter back. You also need to bring your own re-usable bags to pack up your savings. My first visit was a quick stroll up and down the aisles. The store was super clean and well organized. I was surprised how wide the aisles were. was impressed with the canned goods and also the K-Cup offerings. To my delight, they had my favorite fruit, Raspberries on sale. I grabbed two pints for $5. They even had fresh cut flowers for $5. The cashier was friendly and professional. After ringing me out, he gave me a coupon for $5 off my next purchase of $50. That's a 10% savings. I think I can do that on my next visit, because my pantry is getting real low and it is time to stock-up.

What could improve? Here are a few thoughts…read more 1. Came in with a very basic shopping list of 12 items. 3 had been discontinued, 1 was priced THREE TIMES HIGHER than Walmart. 6 we're out of stock. I bought TWO. 2. Only one check lane open with a new cashier being trained. One customer ahead of me. Took 14 minutes to check out! 3. I didn't look at every single shelf tag but where I DID look, there were 37 items missing a price tag, or with a shipping tearstrip only, with no price. 37! Sad.

The cashiers are speedy scanning the items and putting them back into one of the rented carts. The canned goods are a great value. I've even found multiple quality products in the freezer department. The cheeses and deli meats are quality for the price. When everyone was complaining about egg prices, they were still affordable here at Aldi's and they're still a deal. Meats are acceptable. Just be aware of what you are making and select the cut of meats accordingly. A trip down the aisle that has unexpected Aldi finds, is always an experience. This time of year, you just might find a holiday gift or two at an amazing price. I follow a group on FB called, Aldi Aisle of Shame. It highlights what shoppers have found in that aisle and what they really like. Remember, always have a quarter to rent your shopping buggy and plenty of reusable bags to do your own bagging. Doing those two things helps you save money and it is worth it.

Yet another difficulty with the dysfunction between the Instacart platform of the Aldi's app and…read morethe store. I ordered an item for pickup. I only ordered it because it was available for order; duh. When I went to pick it up at 945 for my 10 am pickup I noticed a substitute notification sent at 915. I had exactly a half hour to see it and reply, except I didn't see it in that timeframe. But...then I saw another notification ONLY TEN MINUTES LATER that told me the window of substitution had closed. The item substituted was $3.00 more and besides I already had it at home. They gave me only ten minutes. I tried to message the shopper to say I didn't want it, but it said the system could not send a message at that time. When they brought my order out, she said because the substitution window had closed, I couldn't get a refund. So I'm just screwed because they had something for sale...and the item, Wagyu ground beef for $4.99 a pound, is STILL showing available right now, but they don't have actually HAVE any available for sale. How incredibly annoying. The store NEVER takes responsibility for the curbside orders, NEVER, not ONE TIME It's always the customer's problem to have to sort out with the app, and you can imagine what a joyless task THAT is. You can't call the store and you can't call a customer service #. The problem isn't the app. Walmart has an app they built themselves that isn't based on Instacart and has multiple points of communication and redress. They make mistakes, too, but they take responsibility for them and don't just let the customer lump it. I get that; mistakes happen but how well one navigates them determines how serious a company is about the actual quality of their customer service. Walmart is serious, Aldi's is NOT. And Walmart charges me the same price in store or pick-up, Aldi's charges me a fee, Walmart doesn't for orders over $35, and Walmart doesn't charge me for bags, Aldi's does, and Aldi's charges up to 10% more for pickup items than in-store prices, and then gives me worse customer service despite charging me more for the privilege of being their customer, not in ONE way, but in THREE DIFFERENT WAYS! And Schnucks uses the Instacart platform for its curbside pickup app, doesn't charge a fee for orders over $25, charges me the same price in or out, and can replace and refund items, and they use THE SAME DIGITAL PLATFORM. So the excuse that it's "the app's fault" is BS. I don't blame the employees, they're just playing the cards they were dealt, but the company policy was designed to fail customers and fail it does. The employees are GREAT, polite and efficient. But I'm only writing this review because this is the fourth time this is happened since the last negative review I wrote that was for the exact same issue, that they continue to ignore. So they don't seem to have any intention to fix it. I'll still shop here but I'm going to get every possible item I can get from elsewhere. By keeping my orders few and far between I'll be risking fewer inconveniences. And don't forget the needless extra expense! Groceries cost 30% more than they did five years ago when we all started using curbside pickup during the pandemic! They've had FIVE YEARS to refine their platform and have chosen NOT to, even though grocery profits are currently higher than they've been since 2007! They can't claim they aren't making enough money to be able to provide industry standard customer service! Disappointed in Aldi's. Again.

In addition to the bartenders, Tony's has an extra staff person behind the bar that takes care of food orders and keeps the bar glasses clean, too. That's good team work. The bartenders are masterful in their skills. I'm a classic cocktail drinker, so I usually enjoy a Martini, Manhattan or a Old Fashioned. I've also been know to order a Boulevardier and a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. I have the Cab when I enjoy their Tuesday Night steak special. When I'm not super hungry and want a light meal, I do a house salad with Grilled Shrimp or a Shrimp Cocktail, or even a order of Oysters Rockefeller. I've even done the Wedge Salad with a side of Grilled Shrimp. Whatever I choose, I'm a satisfied diner. Small details that I like and make my dining experience complete are; Linen Napkins, Hooks Under the Bar, Eco-Friendly To-Go Vessels and a dog friendly patio. They just make me smile. In addition to the outstanding bartenders, the servers and hostesses are friendly, too. They provide upscale service in a casual dining atmosphere.
