I saw things that I haven't seen at grocery stores in Florida. We purchased a few snacks along the way for our TNF game. The SugarBee apples were difficult to pass up. They were sweet & juicy. A great evening snack. We were also very pleased with the Lindt Dubai Chocolate. These were the real deal (Manufactured in Germany). I'd purchased some recently at a drug store that didn't taste the same as what we had in Switzerland. It was manufactured in New Hampshire, and had more of a hazelnut flavor. The ones at Kroger were truly pistachio. Loved it! You wouldn't think there's a difference, but there is. I was also blown away by the display of tamales. I'd be at this grocery store more often if I lived in Texas. Is it better than Publix? That's difficult to say. They both have their share of pros and cons. All I can say is that I'd be just as happy shopping at Kroger.

On my last pickup order they handed us a gift, a cute little goodie bag filled with samples and coupons. I was totally appreciative. Pickup service is easy to use. Just pick a spot and check in on the app when you arrive. They'll come out to your car and will pack the groceries for you. It saves me so much time and energy especially when I'd rather not wander through busy, overcrowded isles.

From it's rebranding of Gerland's…read more26 years ago to its recent buyout by the La Michoacana Meat Market last December, this grocery store has prevented the East End from becoming a food desert, especially for nearby residents who don't have easy vehicle access. Many of the items are more expensive but still comparable to the prices of Kroger, Randall's, and Walmart way out on the West End. The selection of groceries aren't wide but all the usual produce and necessities can be found here. Even though I still opt for Kroger whenever I have a large grocery list, a quick trip here for milk or pasta saves me an additional 20 minutes that I would otherwise have to spend driving. If I can cut down a significant amount of time AND support a locally owned store, then so be it if I'm spending an extra dollar on milk. I recently picked up some discounted protein pasta that was actually cheaper than what I normally pay at Kroger. However, the cucumbers that I also bought during that visit tasted somewhat funky. I personally believe that ratings have a relative component to them which is what grants Arlan's a 3rd star despite their okay prices and occasionally odd-tasting produce. It's a vital part of the East End's community and without it, many of Galveston's residents would be left underserved.

You want fancier, it's sixty blocks west at Kroger.

It's well organized with a a variety of dedicated staff and vendors. It's a true community experience. The location is spacious and accessible, and the food that I have bought from there is always really good. I have bought baked goods like cookies, breads, bagels, Indian food, and dog treats for my dogs. I've also bought fresh vegetables and handmade soaps. Today I was there on a rainy day, and the vendors were still there and ready for their customers. I was also impressed by the community support because people were still shopping in the rain, with and without umbrellas and raincoats.

This morning I got up bright and early at 630a to help set up tents, tables and chairs, signage for all the vendors to use; met the market mgr Candy (she's awesome) I talked to a lot of people (which I love) and i helped sell Morgan Elementary schools veggies from their garden. I bought some fresh kombucha from 3rd Coast and fresh homemade tamales from, momma's tamales in Houston. It started raining and lightning around 1045a; I needed to leave at 11am so it all worked out.
