Really amazing gelato! This place, at least in my friend group, is mostly unknown despite having some of the best ice cream in town. The place is in a very tiny house on S. 1st, but is pretty cozy and has a generally nice atmosphere. Parking may be a bit tough - there's about 5 or so spots. Their flavors are quite unique, like Goodflow honey, hazelnut (and not just ice cream studded with hazelnut - a hazelnut ice cream!), and goat cheese. You could say I am "accidentally in love" with this place. There isn't a lot of gelato places where I live, mainly just Paciugo. My friends and I were just walking around the area, and because we were on an extreme dessert escapade, we decided to try this place out after stumbling across it. This place is amazing which explains why the lines were long and seats were all pretty much taken. The employees were so kind and patient with letting us try samples. I shamelessly tried about half the flavors there, but loved them all. We ended up getting the hazelnut and the hazelnut here is way better than the one at Paciugo. Great place for local, organic gelato for those days when I guess you've just gone to Lick too many times or you've got that 1 friend in town that loves gelato but doesn't want to sit in the cold A/C at Mandola's. All flavors are fantastic. My personal favorites are the starwberry sorbet, the ricotta pistachio which has large chunks of pistachio in it, and the orange chocolate with small pieces of chewy rind (that sounds odd, but it was great). There's a small parking lot of 8 or so spots in the back, a few tables outside on the patio and indoors, and plenty of curb/stone wall space for those that like the outdoors. It's also right before the light at Annie so there's plenty of parking on the street and the green paint makes it easy to find. I brought my parents and they loved how fresh the ingredients tasted, as if it were made just previously to serving. Would highly recommend visiting and bringing those in town this summer. read more

Dolce Neve is just a street over from my house; I'm pretty happy I am just discovering this place now otherwise I would be at least 5 pounds heavier. I really enjoyed the Goat Cheese Pear and the Salty Caramel. Worth all the good reviews. I frequent lick but this place is a little too close to my house. The parking is sufficient for the space and the cute gelato containers are a great touch. Today I had ricotta, honey and organic pistachios and green tea. For a small you get 2 scoops woooo. Any place that has green tea is a ok in my book! It's super creamy and yummy. Coffee is also avail and it looked delicious. I am sure it will be super packed during summer. I went in on a Wednesday night when it was 50 degrees and rainy and all the tables were full. Cute little gelato place in Austin. They make their own ice cream flavors, and the flavors change daily. They have really unique and interesting flavors. I finally decided on the tiramisu and marscapone lemon in a homemade waffle cone. Both flavors were great , and I especially liked the tiramisu. Pay extra for the waffle cone. Tried this place over the weekend and it was delicious! The waffle cone was great and fresh. Their flavors are unique and different but every flavor I tried plented together well and was great.I can't wait to be back to try all the other flavors! I went with my friends for the first time today. We had a $5 coupon from paypal so we each got a medium cup ( we paid .30!!) we went relatively late so there weren't as many flavored available. I tried the ricotta honey and pistachio and strawberry and cream. IT WAS DELICIOUS!! You could taste the crunchy pistachios and the honey!! Whenever you tell people about Dolce Neve (and almost certainly mispronounce the second word) you say that it is a hole-in-the-wall gelato joint, located off of South 1st, right before the madness that is Gordough's. They'll usually respond with something along the lines of: Gelato?? That's like ice cream, right? Yes and no. While it is true that gelato is the Italian word for ice cream, it is notably different from it's American counterpart. Gelato tends to be lighter, and with much more complex flavors. It is lower in calories, fat and sugar than contemporary American ice cream (thanks Wikipedia). You are confused right? This is confusing? Let's start again. If you are looking for your average vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, you should probably just go to Amy's. Actually, if you are looking for those three flavors you should probably just go to your local gas station. The flavors featured at Dolce Neve and much more complex, and are definitely for those looking for a little bit of an adventure. I tried the chocolate and orange peel and I also tried the honey pecan, both of which were amazingly smooth and flavorful but didn't make me all super hyper (see what I said earlier about the sugar content). The talkative people behind the counter will tell you all about gelato and how it is made right there in house. They even feature a few selections of ices for you unfortunate lactose intolerant people as well as coffee and espresso drinks for those looking for some caffeine. Here are the two knocks on it. Small inside seating (and small outside seating) featuring only a few tables. Nice if you can land one, not so nice if you can't. The second and biggest knock on it is not so much on it, but rather a phenomenon that occurs while waiting in line. People in front of you will want to sample EVERYTHING. While this makes a little bit of sense, Dolce Neve would be wise to state that those wishing to sample can only try up to three. I have witnessed people go in there, try a little bit of everything, and then leave. This can lead to buildup of a line, which is fine, but maybe not necessarily in such a small establishment. read more

The gelato was great. While it was too light and fluffy to be called real gelato (I am an Italian so of course I am a snob when it comes to gelato ) the flavors were great. I loved how they had unusual flavors like mascarpone infused with cacao nibs and custard with lemon zest. All I can say about this is wow. Having lived in Europe for several years and traveled there for work many times, I can say with authority thay this is the best Gelato you will get outside of Italy. I, being an avid Gelato guy made sure to sample every flavor they had. The customer service was great and didn't even blink at my multiple tastes and mooching. I ended up getting organic pistachio and salted caramel. Both were delightful, however any flavor is a good choice. I didn't taste a single bad flavor. I look forward to returning over and over to make sure I get every flavor. One note of caution: Gelato us very rich, particularly this Gelato. Be careful how much you order because a medium is a whole lot more than you think (learned from personal experience.) They pack those little tubs to the brim with Gelato so it may look over price judging from the size of the cups, but you'll think differently once you are actually eating it. OMG, and not just because it's in the hood. I found this place at the recent Wine & Swine festival--they were there, serving bacon ice cream (oh yes, they did) Naturally, I had to follow them home. Cute little house on S. 1st, full of folks at 10p.m. on a Friday night. Amazing choices and so many that I wanted to try. Having become a bit annoyed with the guy in front of us who held up the line trying all of them... I decided to dive right in. Don't let the high price scare you to death, I ordered the small and not only were they able/willing to put two flavors in there, they packed it in like you wouldn't believe. I selected a salted chocolate that I adored and a toasted hazelnut that was a little sweet for me. Mixed, this was my perfect "sweet" spot. My man chose the namesake flavor, which is a custardy, melt in your mouth, perfect sweetness with a hint of lemon. I could probably eat that all day long. read more

Everytime I went there, they have just 1 vegan gelato, and last time the guy wnated to sell me a liquid granita , NO WAY I don't wnat a juice! Something about this cute little spot makes me want to come back every time I crave sugar. Perhaps it's because it's located in a semi-secluded area, where many tourists don't go and the workers as well as the customers always seem familiar. It's like a little piece of heaven that's not crowded, and even when it is, it still provides that homey feel. Okay, coming off of my two-month excursion in Buenos Aires, Argentina and eating my share of gelato I was very judgmental of Dolce Neve but I had to give it a chance. Walked here from a taco food truck a few blocks away although I will repeat what other Yelpers mentioned, they have a private parking lot in the back. It was around 10pm and the place was pretty full, all the tables and seats were taken. After reviewing the options the server recommended I try some flavors including vanilla basil and chocolate orange. It was like a flavorful party in my mouth! I was also told that they partner with local farms and shops so much of the flavors change according to what items are in season and fresh. I tried the two flavors together and it was so delicious. Creamy consistency and lasted for 20 mins without melting to soup. Also ordered a plain shot of espresso which reminded me of my cafe days in Buenos Aires. *sigh* As memory serves, Dolce Neve was on point giving a full service and nostalgic experience worth every expensive penny. I was lucky to get a seat and table before a huge line of people came in. Space is limited so if you come with a group of four or more keep that in mind. I've heard of this place a couple of times before and decided to try out while I was in the neighborhood. I love how right when you walk into the place, there is a homey/baking/brownie smell. We ordered a large gelato cup with matcha green tea, coffee, grapefruit sorbet, and goat cheese and pecan flavors. My favorite out of those four were the matcha green tea and goat cheese, but there are also a variety of other flavors. Their matcha marscapone flavor is my favorite gelato flavor maybe of all time (they need to keep it around permanently!!) This is my very first 5 star review, and I'm glad it's for the best gelato that I've eaten outside of Italy. THIS PLACE IS SO GOOD. Dolce Neve has 18 flavors at a time, and both times that I've been, the goat cheese pecan flavor has been available. To this you might be thinking "what?! savory+cheesy gelato? what kind of monstrosity is that?!", and I totally get it. You wouldn't think that the bold flavor of goat cheese paired with sweet pecans could result in one of the most creamy and deliciously sweet & slightly savory treats on the market, but I assure you, it truly is. Bonus: the workers here are so patient. Anyone who doesn't get annoyed at indecisive/curious customers who want to sample over half the flavors (me!) deserves staff of the year. Well priced for genuine gelato. I haven't seen to many places around town that actually serves gelato in the metal canisters that they have all around Italy. This helps preserve the freshness of the gelato that is made in-house at Dolce Neve. Something else a little different is their gelato on a stick and gelato sandwiches. I haven't been disappointed with any of the flavors that I've tried here, from the subtle lemony flavor of their signature "Dolce Neve," to the bold cocoa flavor of their chocolate. The atmosphere is quaint, light clean feel, and they have a nice front deck to sit on. I found the staff to be very knowledgeable about the gelato making process and eager to share with you their favorite flavors. Parking can be a little tricky, as their are only 4 or so parking spaces behind the little house, but you should be able to find parking on the east side of Annie. I definitely recommend this place for a post dinner date dessert, or a cold sweet fix. read more
