    Strawberry Gelato $7 (October 2025)
    Carol W.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE CASH BE PREPARED TO PAY WHATEVER THEY TELL YOU Gelato only comes in cups and in one size, which appears to be extra large. I purchased 1 Limoncello Mascarpone cake, which was listed at $6.99 and 4 gelatos and was charged $35. So I assume each gelato was $7 (but your guess is as good as mine). They don't let you try the gelato before you buy (total bummer). The limoncello mascarpone was nice and light, the mascarpone had almost a mousse texture, not too sweet. Unfortunately, the gelatos had a synthetic sweet flavoring to them, that's for both the Strawberry and the Raspberry. Disappointed for sure.

Dolce is the perfect place to stop by after dinner for a sweet treat. There's plenty of indoor seating and a wide variety of desserts to choose from. They have 33 flavors of tiramisu, along with pastries, gelato, and cannolis. The cannolis are my favorite. The shells are crisp, and the filling is really good. I wouldn't say the desserts are amazing, but it's a great spot to relax, hang out, and satisfy a dessert craving.

Popped in for some ice cream on a hot day. It's a small shop but there are a few small tables, there is an adjacent tiramisu counter and a bar. The prices were not listed on the wall and they only take cash, there is an ATM within. The staff was not overly friendly. The gelato was good. Overall this was fine but wasn't anything special and didn't love that they don't have the prices listed and only take cash.

They have so many different tiramisu options but they really just takes like little cupcake. Doesn't taste like authentic tiramisu. Definitely go elsewhere if you're a tiramisu fan!

This was not a great store for tiramisu even though they offer 30+ variety flavors of tiramisu. It was either way too sweet, too watery, or just wasn't tasting right. It was relatively busy and seating is limited. Staff were okay for the most part.

Edit to add: They charged us TWICE for the cannoli. Shady business. The cannolis were good but the service was horrible. From the moment we walked in, the woman working was rude. They were clearly a "locals only" business. We had stopped in after grabbing a cannoli from Mikes pastry and we wanted to compare a small mom and pop vs a commercialized shop and after buying a cannoli, a coffee, and giving them a tip on top of it, they came over and told us that we couldn't have our other cannoli that didn't come from their shop. Before going inside, we made sure they had no signs posted about "no outside food or drink". After that, we asked if they had a restroom and they said no, which I later found out that it's against the law for restaurants in Boston to not have bathroom facilities. Clearly they just wanted our money and for us to leave. Definitely disappointing. I now understand why everyone just goes to Mikes Pastry. Much more friendly.

I don't know the point of commenting on a gelato shop. Let's be honest--most people in the North End don't plan their gelato stop. They finish their pasta, wander out to the street and stumble into the first place with a display case and a line. That said, this particular gelato shop might just be worth breaking that pattern. The chocolate and hazelnut flavors were rich, creamy, and tasted great. That really balances out all the pasta that was just consumed. There was also a wide selection of other desserts. Just a heads up: it's cash only.

    Pear ricotta cake

A smartly positioned cafe with a large choice of Italian gelato on a busy street. It's small and cozy inside with a number of beautiful deserts. We chose the ricotta pear cake which was fresh and delightful. The americano made the pear stand out even more. Well done! The service can be improved to organize the staff a little better, but we've not seen any issues as stated in other reviews. Certainly worth another visit

This is located on the corner to the left of Mike's pastry. Not affiliated with Mike's of course. Amazing gelato. Very disappointed with the tiramisu they offer... way too watery. Not sure where they get their recipe, but they need to go back to school. Cakes are amazing.

Best coffee and cannolis!! Friendly staff ! Stayed at the Bricco Suites and walked downstairs everyday to Dolce . A+

Pistachio tiramisu, cannoli tiramisu, and salted caramel tiramisu
    Caroline K.

We tried three different tiramisu flavors, and they were all good. The pistachio flavor was my favorite. It was sweet and not too nutty. The cannoli flavor was also very good with chocolate chips and pieces of the cannoli pastry shell sticking out. The salted caramel tasted the most like a traditional tiramisu but with additional salted caramel flavor. Note that you can only pay in cash. It was a little small inside but there are some tables to eat at.

If I had gone to the Harvard location I would have been in and out in 5-10 minutes. That was not the case at the North End location but in fairness it was Friday night and around the time people want dessert. The North End location had four lines from the counter to the door with the line out the door. They take cash only but while you wait you have plenty of time to decide on what you actually want to get. They have 10+ cannoli flavors plus many other pastries. We opted for a pistachio cannoli and a amaretto cannoli. The cannoli were twice the size of what I was anticipating so we split one on Friday and split the other on Saturday. If I went back I'd get the amaretto again. The pistachio was mostly ricotta tasting. If you go, go early and bring cash!

Mike's Pastry is one of Boston's most iconic bakeries and a place that almost every visitor has on…read moretheir list. We walked into a space where the display cases are packed with cannoli, cakes, cookies, lobster tails, and countless Italian pastries, making it difficult to decide what to order. The atmosphere is busy and energetic, with a constant flow of customers, but the staff keeps the line moving surprisingly efficiently, managing the steady crowd with a practiced rhythm that makes the wait feel shorter than it looks. The cannoli are the signature item and the main reason to visit. The shells are crisp and filled to order with a rich, sweet ricotta filling that has a smooth texture without feeling overly heavy. There are plenty of flavors to choose from, including classics like chocolate chip and pistachio, along with seasonal and specialty options. The pistachio cannoli stands out for its generous coating of crushed pistachios, while the chocolate chip version offers a more traditional take that holds up well against the richness of the filling. Beyond the cannoli, the lobster tail pastry is another highlight, with its flaky layers and creamy filling that offers a different texture from the cannoli, and the bakery offers enough variety that it is worth trying more than one dessert. The portions are very generous, and most of the pastries are large enough to share, especially if you are planning to sample a few different items. Everything is displayed behind the counter, making it easy to browse before ordering, though having so many choices can make it take longer to decide. The biggest thing to plan for is the crowd. There is often a line extending outside, especially on weekends and during the summer, but it usually moves faster than it looks because the staff is well organized. Seating is extremely limited, so most people take their pastries to go. It is also worth remembering that the original North End location is cash only, so bringing cash can save you from any surprises. Mike's Pastry is a classic Boston destination that lives up to its reputation if you enjoy rich Italian pastries. The cannoli are the obvious reason to visit, but the wide selection, generous portions, and historic atmosphere make it worth experiencing at least once, even with the crowds.

My previous favorite was Amorino, but I think this place is a step above. The texture of the ice cream was superb--exquisitely smooth and creamy, yet not as sticky as Amorino. Coconut: Coconut ice cream in the U.S. is always legendary, but this was the pinnacle of the legendary. The aroma of coconut and milk was the richest I've ever tasted, and it felt very natural, with just the right amount of sweetness. Naked Yogurt: Similar in design to Amorino's Yogurt & 0% Fat Yogurt, both were pure, rich, and unsweetened yogurt, but this one had a more intense milky flavor. Espresso Mascarpone: The signature flavor. The bittersweet aroma of espresso was distinct yet mellow, but the presence of mascarpone cheese is limited. Very refreshing. Other flavors: Pistachio had a rich pistachio flavor and was a safe choice; Tiramisu and Dulce de Leche were both a bit too sweet. From this perspective, Amorino seems to offer a more well-rounded experience, but I still prefer the surprising quality of this place. The sorbets were all decorated with fruit, making them especially beautiful. If you try too many samples, the staff might get a little annoyed. I was reminded after trying the fourth flavor, so I reluctantly stopped.

I have yet to find any that are significantly better than ordinary Haagen Daz from a supermarket. In fact, most ice cream parlour ice creams aren't even as good, while costing orders of magnitude more than supermarket H-D! Toscanini's is close to equal to H-D in my book...and mainly for the fact that they offer some truly unusual and original flavors: we had the Mango Sticky Rice, Burnt Caramel, and Kulfi. My friend who enjoyed the first one the most, quickly tired of the second, and the third was my favorite by far, mainly because I love cardamom and saffron so much. I was somewhat conflicted with the Burnt Caramel...first taste was delightful, but halfway through the novelty faded away for the most part. We both appreciated that the ice cream was not hyper-sweet like JP Licks, though. HOWEVER, the extreme creaminess, density, and dry mouth-feel of H-D was just not there, as usual. I'd describe the texture of Toscanini's ice cream to be fairly ordinary, like a typical soft/smooth gelato texture. Not bad, but not anything I would really write home about. YMMV of course. Otherwise, service was good and the place is clean and pleasantly modern inside, with 3 nice new steel benches to sit at outside. The benches are curiously turned AWAY from the street, I suppose to foster more of a "communal" vibe and people-watching opportunities. I've walked by during peak hours and seen it quite full, so this place clearly is still quite popular. At $8.25 for 3 scoops (albeit fairly generous sized scoops) of oh, 8 out of 10 ice cream, I don't see myself ever becoming a regular here despite the undeniably interesting/unique flavors, unless I came mainly for the people-watching opps on a nice weather day.
