Jack Dolan and Sons has done excellent work for us twice. Years ago they installed our new hot water heater tank and that went very well. Yesterday morning we called them for an emergency (water all over our bathroom floor) and they were able to come that afternoon! We were happy they had availability that quickly. The plumbers named Jeremy and Tyler fixed everything that was leaking. They were professional, accurate, and hardworking. I really appreciated that they were efficient and worked quickly and quietly. We also spontaneously asked them if they could replace our old faucet while they were there. They had new Moen faucets with them and took care of that for us. We had purchased a bidet online last year and hadn't gotten around to attaching it ourselves, so then we asked Jeremy and Tyler to take care of that project too. It was a very productive visit and we're grateful they did all the work in one afternoon. We were quoted the exact price before they started any work and we considered it an appropriate fee for services rendered and the high quality of work. Thank you Jack Dolan and Sons. I'm very satisfied with Dolan's service. My water heater failed while I was away from home for 3 weeks, and it caused water leaks to my downstairs neighbor. The Property Manager from my HOA recommended Dolan's service. The service guys showed up fast within a few hours I called in the morning. The technician Sean replaced my old water heater with a new unit and cleaned up nicely after the work was completed. He answered my questions, also patiently explained to me how the water heater works, what happened with my old unit and what to do to prevent any potential issues when I'm away from home again. It was educational. Everything was done the same day that I called for the service. I'm very impressed with Dolan's service. Did a conversion to natural gas and hired Dolan to do the piping, install a new clothes dryer and gas boiler, and remove the old oil tank in the basement. In addition they were supposed to install a kick heater in my kitchen (a cold room) and add a 5 foot length of baseboard heater to the master bedroom (also cold). Their quote was high but their reviews on Angie's List were very good (I don't know why) so I went with them anyway. The work that they actually did was mostly okay BUT they never finished the job and the boiler they installed is critically undersized. Neither the kick heater or the baseboard were ever installed. Much, much WORSE was the fact that their crew decided that removing the old tank was too uncomfortable for them since it had to be brought up a flight of stairs. This prevented me from getting a C.O. since leaving the tank in the basement is against Code. Several years later we hired ANOTHER COMPANY to remove the old tank. They arrived on time, never complained and in fact were upbeat the entire time they were here. The job was completed in about 2 hours. They did a perfect cleanup and they never spilled a drop. WHAT A CONTRAST BETWEEN CONTRACTORS !!! read more

But when I asked about the price for the garbage disposal installation and unit. They quoted almost $500 before tax! 29 years and counting! I have been a customer with Dolan for the past 29 years. They are my "go to" company for all my home needs. In my first home, they did my kitchen, bathroom, water tank, air/heat systems. I recently moved and they just completed the gutting and remodeling of 2 bathrooms and my kitchen. I called to make an appointment. My new tankless water heater was leaking. They are very well structured with their availability in 2 hour slots until 4pm. After that, it's emergencies only. It's $39 for them to show up and look at the issue. I said ok, that's reasonable. They said they don't charge you if you hire them. Then Joey showed up and said he has to diagnose the problem and it will cost $198/hr. I was scared by the open-endedness of that but I needed the water heater to stop leaking. I reluctantly agreed. I told Joey I knew about the gas pressure issue & what I needed to fix it. I did not want him diagnosing that. I only needed the water leak addressed. PSE&G had already come out & looked at the pressure issue & I knew all about it. I asked him if the water was coming from the condensate valve (as water is supposed to leak from there). He said no, he had to open the unit. An hour later, Joey called and said he took the measurements to replace the gas line & solve the gas pressure issue. Well, that's not why I called them & authorized the work. He was only supposed to fix the leak which only took 5 minutes. He did not need to open the unit. He did not need to analyze an issue I told him I already knew about. And the leak WAS from the condensate valve. He just connected the existing drain properly... 5 minutes! Additionally, Joey was quite rude, I had to ask to speak at one point because he wouldn't stop talking and listen to my question. So, they tell u it's $39 then get there and tell you it's $198! Also, after adding up all the BTU's of my appliances, I called PSE&G. Turns out I don't need their very expensive quote to change my gas pipes. read more

Extremely disappointed with Dolan. My only experience with Dolan ended up being a horrible misdiagnosis of why water was coming through my ceiling. I was told I needed my entire shower, rows of tile and tub basin to be pulled out to fix a "support issue" for the basin when what ended up being the real problem was simply a cracked drain pipe. If they opened up the ceiling they would've seen that. So we go from thousands of dollars to hundreds of dollars. And on top of that, it's been 6 days since they were here and they haven't even bothered sending their ridiculous quote to me nor they have they contacted me. Stay away folks. read more

I have used Jack Dolan Plumbing for 45 years and was always satisfied. Until now! I have never been more upset, disappointed, and angry at their lack of competency and owner, Mike Dolan's lack of giving a damn. When we went in to shop to speak with Mike Dolan he wasn't in. Someone did tell Mike he should call us He never did. Very unprofessional. When they do the work properly, they do a beautiful job. Shouldn't have to stay on top of them like this. First they replace pipe in ceiling, but when someone came back to put up Sheetrock he couldn't because plumber put the pipe below ceiling level Another plumber came to put back toilet, shower, faucets, etc. after new floor tile and tub was installed, they put back toilet and left. Had to call and ask them to send plumber back to finish Ordered new medicine cabinet Was told it would be in on Thursday, then Friday and then Monday Didn't come in until Tuesday., installed on Wednesday. read more

I used Dolan based on good reviews but they are the worst. They came to us to repair water leak. In order to identify the leak, they had to washing machine running and manually set to spinning mode so that water drains. Two guy were trying to figure out to set to spinning mode by pushing reset button and start button and all other buttons in control panel for over 20 minutes and they were cursing to washing machine since it did not work for them. They finally gave us and moved the washing machine and manually put water from horse to drain. Few hours after they left, we realized that the washing machine does not work anymore. When pushing any buttons on control panel, we got error sign. so I called Dolan to let them know that our washing machine does not work after they pushed so hard to get spinning mode going. They told me that our washing machine was old and was about to break and they have nothing to do with breaking our washing machine Really? Dolan is one of companies that take advantage of situation and only care about making money. DO NOT USE THEM!!! read more

So midday today I found out that my water tank was leaking. Since the tank was installed by them back in 99 by the previous house owner, I figured I'll give them a call and see about pricing and service cost. From the get go, the service rep, Claudia, was very helpful and was able to answer my question and gave me approximate pricing of what it might take to replace the water tank. Although, It seem a bit expensive from the quote I got compare to the average replacement price around, but I guess it's understandable since its a emergency weekend job and additional upgrade I may need to do to bring up to the current code. Besides they are literally few blocks down from me. So I know they can get to me fast. So They got a tech and came out and assess the situation very fast as expected. Overall, Great service all around. From the initial call with the Claudia, the service rep, to the guys John/Sean that came out and replace my water tank. Very professional all around and knows their stuff. John explained all the options that I can have and they will take care the permit and removal of the tank and garbage. After speaking with John, I decided to go with them for the replacement even though the price was a bit higher than i want to pay for. As I watch John perform his work, I can tell he is experienced in his field and was able to answer all my questions and provide a thorough walkthrough on the new tank. So far so good and I have hot water and no leaks so far! Would recommend and will use them again, although I hope not anytime soon! Was a little apprehensive to call one of the larger companies because I find they usually have lots of poorly trained techs running out to calls but I was pleasantly surprised. They showed up on time, quickly, walked me through the problem, quoted me a price, fixed it, and most of all were very pleasant to interact with (he felt like a member of the family for the day!). Too expensive!! Consider using a handyman instead unless it is a major plumbing job. Charges are too high for simple projects.

This business price gouges and has the audacity to charge over $730 for a job that took and hour and a half of labor with a replacement part that cost them around $100. They don't break down the invoice to differentiate the parts cost from the labor. All they did was replace one zone valve, bleed the water from the system and put in a new thermostat that I had purchased which took less than 5 minutes. To add insult to injury the tech wrote on the walls of my laundry room with a permanent marker in large letters to mark pipes without asking first. Dolan did send over someone to paint over the damage since I was irate that their employee could be that inconsiderate. I had used this company a number of times before but since Jack Dolan Sr. died the sons have no conscience when it comes to overcharging their customers. And they charge $79 for the service call for a 10 minute drive from their facility in Somerset which is not applied to the service. STAY AWAY from Jack Dolan and Sons HVAC!
