Before the second visit, I asked Sean what the estimate would be, since he was rushed to get the work done on a Saturday. I specifically said that there was no rush for the project, and he insisted they come out right away because he had double booked his projects. He said the estimate would be 'give or take $500.' Let me just say that the wall was left completely open from the washing machine. That's fine, since they were upfront about the need to have a contractor come repair the wall, but this was not included in the price. I received a bill for $550. I paid the bill, and the next day I received an additional bill for $280. I called and left a voicemail to speak with someone regarding this, and received no call back. I called a week later, and received a call direct from Sean. He was insistent that this was my fault since I did not request a formal documented estimate. Okay... I said maybe it is, since I trusted the verbal estimate he had given us. This plumber came recommended from the previous owner, so I just assumed they were trustworthy. I said to him, I understand we are on the hook. However it's a really horrible situation since we had been upfront about just moving, have a newborn, and were very tight on money. If we had known it would be almost $800 for 2 hours of work not including repair, I would have said no. Not right now. None of it was urgent, he insisted he come out within 3 days on a Saturday to do the work. He reinforced how I should have asked for a documented estimate and began to yell about how "I don't know what to tell you. I have kids. I have my own bills. I have my own bills to pay that would buy your house." Needless to say, said thank you anyway and hung up the phone. I would absolutely never recommend this company. Guy told me he was at the beach and couldn't help me until Mon. Anyways they took my info and confirmed I was under warranty and my heater will be replaced but I ll have to pay $450 labor. I had no choice but agree to it. Mon morning they called and told me they had a flat tire but will be there and eventually they did arrive later that morning. Since my basement has a new carpet and my young children play there, I requested them to put shoe coverings on. This is where the problem started with their attitude. They said, they didn't have any shoe covering and their shoes were 'clean'. Many Asian/South Asians don't bring outdoor shoes inside the house. I offered them new plastic bags to put on their shoes but they refused to do so and angrily left the house saying you should get it done from someone else. At that time, my wife intervened and requested them to come back inside with their shoes and said we ll get it clean later. living in NJ, they should know not everyone wears outside shoes on inside carpet. They should have shoe coverings as contractors and refusing to help work with the customer was just bizarre. My wife put whatever sheets she could find to cover the way but it's a large area and didn't cover everything besides they didn't seem to want to wait. I worked with them and waited a couple of days without hot water. I didn't push them to send a backup plumber or didn't negotiate the labor cost but their uncooperative and frankly grumpy attitude left a bad taste.
