AC went on the fritz. Called in the evening, someone was here before 2 pm next day. Was getting hot. It was a part on the compressor that shorted. Replaced within a half hour. Checked freon levels, etc. Good to go. Also recommended replacing the Compressor and Air Handler Units due to their age and he is spot on with the recommendation. I had plumbing replaced shower head and handles for one of the apartments I own. I paid for one product that the plumber told me he would install. I left the apartment and came back when tenant advised me job was done. Cheaper handles were installed not the ones I paid for to be installed. Called company would not fixed the situation claimed ones I wanted installed were $1,200.00 and plumber would not have given to me at that price. BEWARE Scam artist! They installed a leader for water drainage. They took the job without having any clue how to do it correctly. As seen in the photos the connections were installed the wrong direction, the higher part should go inside the lower not the opposite which is the reason why water is dripping at each connection. At the end they put some lousy connector were water is now leaking. Even the most simple steps were not implemented. In the email they write "If for any reason you are not happy please call are office and we will make it right.", well, I called and they didn't make it right. read more

I was in a pinch and needed some plumbing work completed to pass an inspection. Rich's came out same day and took care of the issues. The price quoted was WAY lower than other big brand plumbing companies came in with. The work took most of the day and was pretty extensive. They plumber got at it and completed the work with no issues. Normally, someone will come to do work and take frequent breaks or do the work over several days. Not these guys, get in and get the work done. I was so impressed that I've hired them for several other jobs over the past couple of months. They have enough workers to usually do same day work. I always get a call when they are on their way, and most importantly they respect your house and keep it as clean as possible. They are VERY expensive. I needed a water heater replacement and they gave me an estimate $ 3,043.00. Wow! Home Depot did it for $ 1,284.

STAY AWAY - FRAUD Drainage in the house was poor at best and several locations appeared to be clogged. After several hours of looking for the problem and snapping the snake used in my vent and leaving it there, i was charged $150 for "diagnosing" the problem and told they'd returned the next day to remove the snake and see if they can find the clog or the problem. Day 2 consisted of as many as 7 people at one point trying to retrieve the snapped line from my vent. Additionally, 2 walls were now opened in an attempt to locate what was now "confirmed" as a broken pipe. For this visit I was charged an additonal $350 and told the pipe had collapsed and the floor need to be broken open to "find and repair" the collapse. This was accompanied by a written estimate and the following description of services to date and recommendation for going forward: "Camera went into line from vent. Found in slab, where all plumbing connects, is compromised. Broken pipe with mud in it. Estimate to jack up floor, break tiles, and find pipe to repair collapse. With tile and floor jacking. $4500" Four days later, Middletown plumbing cleared the clogged pipe and left. No collapsed pipe to be found. This review will be followed up with a call and claim to the BBB and a call to my attorney. read more

Our water heater went out on Monday. Rich's Plumbing came out on Tuesday and analyzed the problem. They gave me a quote and came back on Wednesday to complete the job. The 2 technicians Dan and Ernest were excellent in explaining what they were doing and went over everything at completion. Horrible. They unhooked our dishwasher without telling us not to use the sink until it was hooked back up and the entire downstairs flooded . We agreed to put the dishwasher back but didn't realize they unhooked the hose. That would have been good to know. Owner of rich's argued they did the work and that was all they were responsible for. but they don't stand behind any type of quality and I would not recommend $700 to replace a piece of pipe. Would have been happy to pay, as I understand trades men are with the $$ but there has to be some level of communication with homeowners. We don't know everything the trades men do. read more

First off the 1 star rating is for the company not the plumber dispatched on the job. Appointment to clear a clogged pipe by kitchen. -Plumber shows up promptly on appointment. -Quoted $280 to clear the clog which I agreed to. -After a few attempts he was unable to clear the clog. -Wanted to change the tip from a spring to a spear type to dislodge the clog. Seems like the screw was too tight and he was unable to change the tip of the snake. -Proceeds to try again but then later on gives up. Was told my pipes are small and that he will need the spear type tip and a more bigger and powerful unit. He made a phone call and spoke to management. "We will need to change out the equipment to a more powerful and bigger snake with the spear tip he wanted to use." So to change out the equipment the price is now $480. No choice but to agree. Came back and he was able to get the clog out. Here is the kicker. He tells me he was able to clear the clog by using a SMALLER snake with the spear tip he originally wanted to use but due to faulty equipment he had onsite he was unable to do so. As a consumer I had to pay extra to use a smaller machine with the right tip? How does that make sense? I reached out to Rich and informed him that the upcharge does not seem valid due to him using a smaller machine. His reply was they are paying them per hour and gas bla bla. He want to make sure his customers are happy and would look at the invoice and get back to me after a few days. Well I reached out to him earlier this week after a week to follow up and guess what NO REPLY. I used him to support local plumbers but I was better off using Roto Rooter. I would stary clear from this company. Use them at your own risk! read more

I've used Rich's several times for a myriad of (unrelated) issues. AC issues, plumbing, leaks, etc. They have always been timely, professional, and provided quality service at a reasonable rate. Not "cheap", per se, but you are getting skilled labor and I have never felt ripped off. read more

I needed some plumbing work done in my basement after Hurricane Ida flooded my home. The technicians came out quickly to assess the job. They were polite and friendly. When the quote came in that evening, I almost fell off my chair. I was quoted just shy of $10,000 to deepen my sump pump basin and install a check valve, replace a 6 foot leaking drain pipe and run a new line to my water/ice maker on a new refrigerator. I had two other estimates from other companies after that and both of them came in under $3,500 for the same work. I told the one of the guys what my original quote from Rich's was and he was shocked. He said they should be ashamed of charging prices like that. read more

******Update***** If it were possible to give this company 0 stars, I would. This company does not stand by their work. I had this company replace a shower cartridge less than 4 months ago and about a week ago the shower started to leak. I called a different plumber, as my first experience with this company was horrible (read the first review below) and the new plumber stated that the cartridge was incorrectly installed upside down which caused caused it to crack. I did not have the new plumber complete the work to fix the shower as the problem appeared to have been caused by Rich's plumbing. Reluctantly, I contacted this company and actually spoke with Rich. I told him the problem and he stated that if his company comes out to fix it they will still charge me because I supplied the cartridges. Yes, it is true that I ordered the cartridges directly from Moen, as Nicholas M, the plumber from Rich's plumbing, advised. Nicholas told me that it would be cheaper for me to get them from Moen because Moen has a warranty on these parts for homeowners. Once the cartridge arrived, the box was unopened until Nicholas arrived to do the work. It would appear to me that if the cartridge was cracked when Nicholas opened the box, he would not have installed the cartridge (but who knows with this company). That aside, the new plumber stated that the cartridge was installed upside down which caused it to crack. I did not blame Nicholas, when speaking to Rich. I just asked that they come check it out to see what is going on. To which, Rich was very rude and immediately said that they would charge me. I am not going to argue with Rich, as I have no confidence in this company anyway. I just decided to update my review and let the people know the hassle that is involved with dealing with this company. The first cartridge lasted for years, so why would the new one stop working/brake in less than 4 months? I don't know but I wouldn't hire Rich's plumbing again and you shouldn't either. We are very satisfied with the quality work and service from the tech- Plumber George, from Rich's Plumbing Service. He found the problem of our leaky bathtub faucet, then went out to get the parts needed to fix it. He apologized that it took a bit longer, because our hot- cold faucet handles are apparently getting outmoded, so more difficult to get the parts to fit- but George did. He changed both stems so now it's like a new faucet. George patiently explained that after a shower, to firmly close each hot and cold faucet. Then dry off...and wait a little to give the water a chance to drain down out of the pipes. Not to keep squeezing the faucet handles, as this can break them. Now we know. read more

I have used rich's Plumbing faithfully for three years in a row for the same issue. Had trouble with my furnace and heat wasn't going on and plumber came and charged $500.00. A year later same time same problem called them back figuring it would be under warranty. Of course the same plumber said it was something else even though it did the exact same thing. Charged me another $500.00. This past year the same problem and same plumber came and I said this isn't fair and am getting ripped off. Charged me another $130.00. I called rich himself and he told me he would refund the $130.00 to satisfy me. Well he never sent it. How awful that a local plumber in east brunswick would go back on his word. I had a bad leak in my bathroom on Sunday Afternoon and saw they are 24/7 to help so I called them. I got a woman on the phone and she said they will call 15-20 minutes. With every drop dripping all over my cabinet and panic mode set in trying to find someone. My wife was on the phone and called 4 places and not one called us back either. I recalled the number to them and told the woman I didn't hear back from anyone and is a emergency. She said she will let them know this is 2nd time I am calling and she will have someone call. This is by far the worst company I have dealt with. Our tankless water heater stopped working so we called a local plumber who could service it. A lot of plumbers don't service tankless heater so our options were limited to begin with. A technician came out to do an initial diagnostic, said the tank needed to be 'de-scaled' so he put a solution through the machine and ran it through. He disconnected the plug from the tankless to our main water heater and said everything would be fine. He takes his $150.00 diagnosis fee. Next day, I go down to check and notice a huge pool of water under the tankless heater. Call them back and explain, the same technician comes back out and says 'oh after I de scaled your tankless, the crack in the machine got bigger'... um hello, you could have told us that in the beginning and fixed the problem?! He re wires the thing and takes $1200.00 for it. (Absolute insanity because the whole tank itself cost $2000... and he basically told us to replace or fix). I go down and check again the 3rd day, it's still leaking. I have to call another plumber because at this point im livid and out of $1350.00 - different plumber comes in and fixes the problem for $100.00... never again will I call such an unprofessional and shady company. My plumber nick did a good job. Fast service, came 15 minutes after i called. Cleaned out a trap - cost $375 for 45 minutes of work - office manager did not work with me at all on the price. Would not recommend unless its a real emergency. Updated to three stars and more detail - Originally I was quoted $425 to do a main line snake. Plumber found out it was only the trap that needed to be cleaned. Based on tools used, skill, having to deal with the filth and time spent, $375 is too much. I'm sure the people there are nice, and they were friendly to me. I just think they need to work on their pricing structure. read more

Called Rich's Plumbing the day before Mother's Day because our sewer line was backed up and I agreed to pay $550 plus tax which I thought was high but I needed to get it done. After a couple hours and creating a big mess I'm told the job is done and to call if I have any more issues. 4 days later the sewer was backed up again so I called them back in. After about an hour the technician and another big mess he tells me he can't open the line with the snake that I need to have it "Water Jetted" and says it's $1,300. So I say "so you changed me $550 already and now you want another $1,300?" He says yes. I told him to leave. I immediately called Drain King (I called them originally but he could not get to me for a couple days) and Drain King had the sewer lined cleared in less then 30 minutes using they snake, no water jet! Charge $250. I have called and emailed Rich's Plumbing asking for a refund with no response. Guess I'm going to have to take them to court. read more

So far, so good, I've dealt with them for 2 different issues and in both instances they arrived on time, and were polite and resolved the issues. In the first instance, I had a leaking pipe which leaked to a lower level of the house, the technician Gary identified the problem and fixed it within an hour. It's worth mentioning that they only do the plumbing, not the patch work. In the second instance, our central air conditioning was no cooling, and the technician fixed that within an hour as well. This is a very long overdue review, but with a newborn baby at home it's been hard to find the time. That being said, my experience was so negative, I'm revisiting months later. The boiler in our house was not working, so after asking for recommendations from friends, I was lead to Rich's. I called MANY places that day, and was only interested in meeting with plumbers that would give a free estimate (I met with 2 other services that day that also provided free estimates). I specifically asked the girl on the phone if that was the case, and was told yes. I set an appointment for a technician to come over a few hours later. As time has passed, I don't remember the technicians name, but he was very nice. He was very helpful, assessed the situation, and told me what needed to be done to fix the problem. I WAS GOING TO FORK OVER $1400 AND USE RICH'S SERVICES. It should be stated that it was very cold in my house, and I had a 1 month old baby. As he was packing up to go, he told me that I owed them $90.84. I nicely said that I was told it was a free estimate. Kindly he told me to call the company and let them know, as sometimes they will honor what they've told you. Taking his advice, I called and spoke to a guy who told me that the girl I spoke to was new, and that's why she gave me incorrect information. I stated that while I understand that we all make mistakes, we are also held accountable for those mistakes, and I shouldn't have to pay for a service I was told I wouldn't be charged for, as I would've just not made the appointment. The technician in my house told me to ask for a manager. When he got on the phone he was incredibly rude, and told me that he had heard my conversation with the girl in the morning and I was lying. He proceeded to tell me I would still be charged and that it was my fault for not understanding correctly. Here was a man bullying me on the phone and LYING, while his technician was standing in MY HOUSE. No matter how nice the technician was, I was very uncomfortable and suddenly felt unsafe. I told this to the manager. Despite this he continued to berate me. At this point I had 2 choices-- tell him to go to hell, or pay this charge and get the technician out of my house, as I was a woman alone with a baby, just trying to get her heat fixed. I was bullied and lied to by this company. I urge you to NOT use Rich's under any circumstances. I generally think Yelp is an unfair assessment of a company, as people usually only leave bad reviews, but if this is how the company operates it needs to be said so you're not taken advantage of and put in a uncomfortable situation in your own home. read more

The servicing was fine which is why I'm giving the additional 2nd star but i was charged an exorbitant amount, over $3000, for replacing a 50 gallon water heater . Unfortunately this was the first time I had to urgently replace my water heating system and I did not get the time to do my research in advance. Lesson learnt! Later I looked up the price of the heater and it was available for a little over $800! I could understand doubling the amount for labor and additional material but their price way way too high. When I asked for a financing option I was not given one and I also offered to make the payment in 2 checks with one post dated by a month, that was rejected as well. Called Rich's on 5/27/2016 late afternoon, and had a tech at my home early evening. One of the units of our central air, wasn't working properly, the compressor didn't seem to want to kick in. The tech. came, and was polite at first. Checked the fuses, power going to the unit and compressor, and freon level. He diagnosed the issue as it being a bad compressor, and it would need to be replaced. But considering the age of the unit (about 13-14 years) it would be better to just replace the whole unit. He went to his truck to figure the pricing, and came back in a couple of minutes. The compressor and labor would be $1600, while a new unit with labor was around $3200. Now, even though i was in a desperate situation, i didn't have that much money to just throw around, and wanted to research diff units, their prices, and costs associated to install. I asked the technician for a breakdown of costs, much like you would receive on an invoice.. parts, labor, tax, etc... and that's when things went sour. He stated that he couldn't provide me with a breakdown. I pushed again, and asked what the name and model was of the unit he would be using, and all he could tell me was that it was a Goodman, and it would be 2.5 tons. I said how can you expect me to shell out over $3000, without a proper breakdown. I would like to know what i am paying for. He then proceeded to tell me to check the prices online for the unit (again, without the model number), and the rest would be labor. I was dumbfounded by such a response,,, never have i ever paid for any work, without a proper breakdown, and here i am being told that i must research the price of the unit myself, without the proper details and the rest would be labor. I asked if i could speak to someone in his office who sets the prices, to which i was told that he set the price. Again, i couldn't believe what i was hearing... I said well thanks, ill have to think about it, and he asked to be paid the service charge, which i did. I then asked if we decided to do the work, if that charge would be applied against the total, to which he told me know, the decision has to be made on the spot for that to apply... unbelievable! i was already done with the, at this point. The next day, i had a different company come out and take a look at my system, Within two minutes, i had a different diagnosis.... bad capacitor. The technician took out the capacitor, and showed it to me.. it looked as if it were pregnant... i was told it should be smooth and flat on all sides. He replaced the capacitor, and the unit and compressor, immediately turned on. Total charge for capacitor... $100. If that is all it takes to extend the life of the unit a few more years, i will gladly take that. Being upset about the misdiagnosis, i called Rich's on the morning of 5/31/2016. I was greeted by the office manager. Let me first start by saying, i couldn't finish even telling of my experience without being put on hold every other minute. I believe i was on hold more than my time actually speaking to him. He was polite, in apologizing every time, but i cant believe the office manager is the only one that is actually int he office, answering phones. You would think that what should be a reputable business has a receptionist... but his response was that the company was small.... So i proceeded to tell the office manager of my experience, and was told a few disturbing things. First, he said that they don't provide a breakdown in price, confirming the technicians actions. So now i cant fully fault him, as that is how they are instructed (still couldn't believe that something like this couldn't and wouldn't be provided!). When asked about the misdiagnosis, i was first told that... I called on the busiest day of the year, and the technician arrived in the evening (still with plenty of daylight mind you), so its possible to not properly diagnose... Then to add more insult to injury, even though the issue was the capacitor, i could expect to have the compressor die on me again in about 30 days or so, since the unit is so old, the capacitor was only a temporary fix. So in the end, he and is technician were not in the wrong, and apparently the other company who helped solve the problem, temporary or not... along with myself, am wrong. I was denied any refund, as a service was preformed, albeit with a $3200 misdiagnosis. Stay away from this company, as i would not want anyone to be incorrectly diagnosed and have to shell out an absorbent amount of money without even a breakdown of prices.... and if you do decide to use them.. make sure its not on a busy day or late in the evening. That apparently allows acceptable room for error. I will be posting this same review on many other review sites as a public service to all potential future customers. read more
